- jbus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Oh GOD! You mean they weren't private to begin with?!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I have kind of been thinking of moving back to delicious from Simpy (I like that delicious has a "popular" page so you can find cool stuff), but their import is STILL not up. So... Yeah... Meh.
- TrueVox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ok, just a few uses:
Bookmarking deviant (but still legal) porn that you don't want your friends to know that you take intrest in (BDSM, scat, furry, etc.).
Shopping for your girlfriend/boyfriend/spouse/whatever
My personal favorite: Bookmarking sites that have no real community use, but that I personaly have use for (a certen printer on Tiger Direct, for instance), thus you don't clutter up the enviroment with what looks like spam to most people.
I'm sure there are other uses too. Any takers? - yensed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Now I can Hide my "fuzzy wuzzy bear fetish" :-p .. Kinda cool tho for sites that your are a member of and dont want yout friends to know about(Reality Tv Show Fan Sites.).
- frojo56, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's off to the right when you're on the settings page.
- isdereks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4dammit! i guess they weren't private to begin with. no wonder my friends started looking at me funny.
- isdereks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it's more or less a personal preference. if you really want to compare services, i guess you have to look at the history behind each.
personally, i joined delicious about two years ago. i admit that i wandered and experimented with alternative services but usually found myself back within my delicious account for a single reason that no other service was able to provide. simplicity. i knew it was only a matter of time before delicious would get its act together and offer private bookmarks. - JWood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Exactly. The only reason I was hoping for something like this.
- diafel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pretty cool for porn.
- anudeglory, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So the point is exactly?
Here's a great website for social bookmarking called del.icio.us but just in case you are feeling particularly antisocial one day you can tag a link privately so no one else can see it? Riiight!? - sarah73076, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's under 'experimental', called 'private saving'.
- bigcheez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yep, I love delicious popular. For me, it's right up there with my digg feed. Spammers do flood the inbox, but I don't really want to see anything that hasn't already been bookmarked enough anyway.
- sonicdevo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How do you guys decide between del.icio.us and spurl and the other bookmark sites? I'm concerned with the longevity of some of these sites and would like to ensure that I'm going with the site that's probably the "winner" between all of those in competition
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hopefully the spammers can take a hint and use these private bookmarks... they've been getting quite obnoxious recently with their polluting my inbox.
- saket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder why they took so much time to enable private bookmarks.
Sorry, I already switched to Yahoo Web 2.0, which provides private and community sharing. http://myweb2.search.yahoo.com/
- Saket - logosmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, I do because I don't use any other bookmarking system. del.icio.us is the only place I save bookmarks anymore. What if I want the login to my 401k or bank at work, del.icio.us. It has completely replaced my PC side bookmarks so it makes sense for me to keep them there.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't see any option under 'settings'.
- incognegro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When is the import feature going to be fixed? There's no way in hell I'm about to hand-type every one of my bookmarks into that thing...
- mulls, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dig comment for the Elliot Offen (sp?) reference.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I guess you'll have to use third-party tools for that. "del.icio.us loader" or something like that.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I doubt any of them will have the staying power of del.icio.us, especially now that yahoo is behind them. Also the number of users is somewhat important, lots of content there that other services are trying to catch up to. I started out with stumbleupon initially, but nowadays I'm pretty much just using del.icio.us. It's just more useful to me and has lots of content, that's what matters.
- lalindsey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1At the moment I prefer ma.gnolia.com quite like delicious, but with features such as groups and such ... and it's pretty.
- lalindsey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ghoppe: right but why post it on a "social" bookmarking network than, instead of just saving it on your local browser??
- lalindsey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1so does ma.gnolia.com
- loganrapp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm not entirely certain what the purpose would be beyond simply having a few bookmarks that you don't want people seeing on your list.
What would this do with spam? I'm not seeing the effect; could someone explain that? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1At last, ***** social bookmarking.
- ghoppe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Another use is to bookmark financial login pages (online banking, trading, bills, credit cards). For security reasons, it's best not to let the whole internet know where you bank and pay your bills...
- mabino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Didn't it always have private bookmarking by setting a tag of "for:yourownusername"?
- esangaline, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's about time they implement this feature. What have they been waiting for?
- klutch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice feature. Now if they could just get that import feature working. Arrrrgggghhh.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Wow, a small db modification and a couple of code changes, HUGE UPDATE!
