Enjoy. - TheWorm, on 10/12/2007, -19/+281I for one don't want a Digg category for everything under the sun. Digg had a more intelligent crowd when it was more tech oriented. More categories just dilutes the good stuff.
Do we really want all the cross-over Youtube users posting some "funny" picture of a midget kicking someone in the nuts that they got in a chain email? - Sanchez, on 10/12/2007, -5/+211http://i19.tinypic.com/4c3lsno.jpg

"Do we really want all the cross-over Youtube users posting some "funny" picture of a midget kicking someone in the nuts that they got in a chain email?"
This is exactly the reason we WANT a photo section. Get that ***** outta my news! - bat-21, on 10/12/2007, -10/+151Digg also needs a digg section for articles about digg and Kevin.
- TheAstronomer, on 10/12/2007, -16/+149Pics or it didn't happen
- bananaguyc, on 10/12/2007, -7/+121A general "Art" section, for submissions relating to photography and other mediums would be cool.
- WeSaluteYou, on 10/12/2007, -11/+106Am I the only person that felt obliged to digg up Kevin's insightful remark? (srsly)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+67The intentions would be cool. The result however would be "/pictures/funny/OMG_kitten_photoshopped_to_look_stupid_2885639688".
- wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -8/+65But how will we get our recommended daily doses of vitamins H, D, and R?!
- BlackSheep720, on 10/12/2007, -4/+52how about instead of "signing the petition," just digg the bloody story?
- cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+47Changing "Video" -> "Media" sounds like a smooth move. Makes a lot of sense.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+49Yay. Tomorrow's frontpage ... "DIGG ADDS PICTURE CATEGORY!!!!!!!!!!" 3 times with 80 duplicates kicking around in the queue.
- j0se, on 10/12/2007, -23/+67Dear Poster, STFU already.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -13/+44Say yes, I know you will.
- lukeydukey, on 10/12/2007, -4/+34The title should be rephrased as such:
"Dear Kevin Rose, Please create a [NSFW] section" - mc7winkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24How much ***** can you put on Firefox?
- hansonc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24FYI
your caps lock key is stuck - Azewaldo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26"hmm : )" ...Which I bet really means... "already working on it"
- martypal2005, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Here is who we will complain to:
Microsoft -> Bill Gates
Apple -> Steve Jobs
Digg -> Kevin Rose
Now stop it with the nonsense. - op12, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24theworm, the whole point is that if a category doesn't get created, these types of posts will dilute what you consider "the good stuff." If a category is made, you can choose to filter it out and get just tech news if that's all you want. And those that like photos and not tech stories benefit too.
- Zm3r3, on 10/12/2007, -7/+24Hey, you. The five or so above me. Didn't you understand the : ) of Mr Roses comment?
- panic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Ehh, instead of signing the petition I'll just digg the story. If it get's enough diggs it'll be basically the same thing, right?
- cybertron3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18I have never seen a comment without actual words modded up above 200 before... or 100... or... you get the idea...
Damn.
Could only have been beaten by "BREAKING: hmmmmm :)" - macfanboi, on 10/12/2007, -6/+22Does Digg really need a photo section for pictures of Steve Jobs in various mock turtlenecks?
- eablokker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I've been really freakin annoyed by all the photos that get dugg up on the home page. The only reason I am in favor of a photo section is to get those damn photos off the freaking front page and into its own page like the video page does.
- Goombellaofgoom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Yeah, I think a general "media and art" section would be better than a pure "photos" section. That would lump all the visual stuff together for those who do/don't want to find it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13sorry kevin I dugg u down. one word comments just don't cut it.
- CapeKid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Agreed, they could tag it onto the video section and I would be cool with that. It would help get the video section more views and keep the non-news pictures off of the main site.
- fLUx1337, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Lets have a pr0n section too while your at it Kevin, maybe even a torrent one too! :P
....oh oh oh....paper airplane section?? pretty please?? - rofflcopterr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13and a "best EVARRR!!!!111one!!!" category.
- hansonc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10F adding any more sections... add that 1990's feature of proper threading.
- tonich03, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12 useless remark => -x.diggs down(-Kevin Rose)= +diggs up.
Whatever - punkrockxtian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10@ gcnaddict
WTF? - flap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I believe adding a photo section would have a negative effect on digg. Photos hit the frontpage all the time under their respected categories. New playstation game screenshots, you put them under gaming. Pictures of the iphone, you put them under apple. Photo of a star exploding, you put it under science.
If you make a photo only category it just means we see less, say "technology news" in the technology section and have to surf over to the photo section and wade through AMAZING HDR Photo, Kitten in Cup LOL!!!, and 100 topics that refrence addresses that start with flickr.com/photos/ .
I don't hate photography, I am an avid photographer. I just think adding a photo category will dilute other sections of digg. - BlastolaCola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yes, make a photo section so I can block it.
I'm tired of mediocre photos getting 2000 diggs and being at the top of the most dugg stories for the day. - wmarcello, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8If a photo is news related, it should be in the news section. If the photo is technology related, it should be in the technology section. If the photo doesn't fit any category, it probably shouldn't be on digg. Same goes for videos.
- roostishaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"Digg had a more intelligent crowd when it was more tech oriented."
Agreed. I miss the days of purely tech news. Now everyone and their dog has a Digg account, and half of them are raving over such things as Anna Nicole Smith. That being said, the sad reality is this: Digg will never, can never, go back to the way it once was. :( - TecHeavy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7It really is a good idea.
- drake77, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I have enjoyed seeing a good number of the pictures posted to the front page recently, and a lot of them _are_ tech-related, which reflects the readership of digg. I think of the video section when considering this issue- I love it and digg would not seem the same to me without it now, as I am accustomed to just kicking back after work and watching the crazy stuff that's posted there (read: spider on drugs, MIT sketching, random Family Guy clips, etc.). I think a picture section would only add to my enjoyment of digg. Just my thoughts..
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I think you mean "dugg" :)
- reva, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I just think an "other" category is needed under entertainment. It'd include photos, as well as literature, magazines, comics, radio, and other forms of entertainment that aren't currently given their own subsections.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Why has no one banned your annoying ass yet?
- samnetwork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yay! I replied to Kevins comment.
- Cink420, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6dugg down what kind of a comment is that I wanna see progress here dammit!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4for spamming? Yes...yes you are.
- shad0w, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yup. The quality of stories on digg has taken a serious dive. When I saw "woman gets owned" as one of the top stories on digg a couple days ago (yes I did read it), I knew that somewhere along the line something had gone horribly wrong. Digg just ain't what it used to be, but I guess that's the price we pay for "going mainstream."
- joel8x, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6You don't get it. Go browse though the interesting photos on Flickr for a while, you'll see that a good picture doesn't need a story, which is why it would make sense to have its own section.
- fuzzboxer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If this does go through, I do not want to see ImageShack hosted images.
