- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+59Facebook was his life? Lawl.
- erinspice, on 10/10/2007, -0/+31It's not a bug, it's a feature!
- whataboutdave, on 10/10/2007, -11/+42Please. The .edu email requirement for college networks is the only thing keeping facebook from being myspace.
- MyPlasticHeart, on 10/10/2007, -2/+29He should get a second life.
- EllisAshbrook, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21whatever, spammer!
lolz - Treshnell, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20After they opened to the general public, they took one more step in the direction of being another MySpace, anyway.

I'm so clever... - fiberspy, on 10/10/2007, -5/+18At least he didn't get tasered for asking all those questions...
- tomis, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15First sentence "On Saturday night Facebook took my life away, now I'm asking nicely, can I have it back please?"
All I needed to know. STFU emo boy. Go outside. - nVoy, on 10/10/2007, -7/+19Just make your own social network, damn.
- Dolemack, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11They did you a favor.
- ReallyOswald, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13I know! Who actually publically claims they had their life was on an account on a social network?
- nthitz, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13Just because you have a blog does not mean you get every complaint of yours rectified. You inadvertently violated their Terms of Service which can result in your account being suspended. You did what they deem a suspendable offense so they shut your account down. It's their website! Not yours. They can do whatever they desire. Don't think complaining to the world will make a difference.
- konforce, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9"After about five or six emails both my research and my Facebook world came to a shuddering halt ... since I was clearly a nasty spammer my account would now summarily be suspended."
Sounds like you're a spammer to me. Maybe it was sixteen or seventeen? Did you send a bunch of "hello, I am doing some research" messages to a bunch of people you don't know? Well sending unsolicited e-mails to people you don't know is spam!
When is Facebook supposed to stop you? After 100? After 1000? Suspending an account and requiring the user to ask to be reinstated is a good policy, IMO. - insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9The fact that he doesn't have a definite count of how many emails he sent means he is full of *****.
- MScrip, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I've been out of college for 5 years. In fact, I finally got onto Facebook only after they opened it up to the public.
Why? Because Facebook and Myspace are like the internet whitepages. Everyone I know, or have ever known, is on one of those "social networking" sites. I don't know anyone's e-mail address anymore. But Facebook and Myspace are my address book.
I use Facebook to share photos. Am I supposed to put all my photos on Flickr then send every person a message manually? It's kinda hard to send someone a message if I don't know your e-mail adddress. Sites like Facebook and Myspace do all of that for you. "Networking" is the keyword here.
I don't try to collect as many friends as I can. I really do know the 400 people I'm friends with on those sites. That just means I've known at least 400 people in my life. Am I supposed to search for each and every one of those people and collect their e-mail addresses, in case I ever wanted to say hi to them? No... I just click "add friend." It's much easier.
You can talk ***** about Facebook all you want. But, many people just use these sites for the reasons they were created, to stay in touch with people. - bigteebo, on 10/10/2007, -4/+12Wow, a total smug reversal on digg about facebook! I thought I was the only one who hated it. Sadly, when you're 31 and college is long gone, the site is useless. When you know few people, it's even more useless. Yes, it's for cliques only. Screw that.
- imontoya, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I'm 41. I read the blog post. At the end I was wondering just what is Facebook, Friendster, LinkedIn, Plaxo or Quetchup. I don't mean what as in "what the hell are these sites about" because I know that already. I just can't understand the need for social networking sites, but it's a fact such sites are popular and growing incredibly fast. But can you really have 5000 friends? My social networking consists of reading the phone list on my cell.
- green67, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7not to inflate your ego anymore.....but yes..that is very clever...kudos....
- stev3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Yeah, talk about a misleading title. I was completely surprised (in 100% seriousness).
- DJCult, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Yeah, except they got rid of that, guys.
- AdmiralKarelia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Ten bucks says he blogged about it on MySpace...
- topherbook, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10Did you just say "pawned"? Why yes. Yes you did.
- bostonnick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5That same thing happened happened to me Sunday. I went outside an the sun burned me. Does this happen every time you go outside.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Too soon.
- cgohier, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5If you've moved from a town where you have a large friend base, it's an invaluable tool for keeping in touch and sharing.. especially things like photographs, music, etc... I find it useful and I haven't been in college for 7 years..
Wow, I'm old. - PRlME, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Loserrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
- moulin1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Something doesnt ring true. "Facebook developers"? And you are a "developer"? Why are you/they using someone else's app? Five or six emails? Or was it six or seven emails, or was it a hundred and fifty seven? You don't seem too sure. Is it possible you could, using your "developer" skills, determine the exact number you sent? Somewhat similar? They must have some super intelligen bots with ground-breaking heuristics. Or were they just identical? You wrote Saturday and no response by Monday? Those bastards!!! Clearly your only course of action is to use Digg to bring the matter to worldwide attention. Maybe the UN and the ISO will put it on their agenda. That's what I do whenever I have the slightest thing to whine about. And just in case you are still wondering, I don't think your pals at facebook really miss you. Nor would your pals at Digg.
- thefinger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4There is a Beck tune in this story.
- Ravatar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Sorry that you can't even drink legally. lmao
- kostas04, on 10/10/2007, -5/+9His whole life is depended on facebook ?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3If your life is dependent on having a Facebook account, then you really don't have a life to begin with.
By suspending your account, they are actually giving you your life back. - acid0426, on 10/10/2007, -6/+9What about the fact you would have no friends to add if you had a Facebook? Is someone mad they can't play?
- chewycheese, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Sounds like this guy needs some time away from facebook
- ReallyOswald, on 10/10/2007, -6/+9Wow... That title would lead one to believe that the person was leaving Facebook, but apparently he put his life in his Facebook. Well, here is the good news...
YOU CAN GET A NEW LIFE NOW! You know... dating, hanging out with friends, having a job, going outside, and getting that wonderful Vitamin D from the big glowing object in the sky known as THE SUN.
I see, keep this "Fugitive" suspended. - danboarder, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3or just remove the "is". His whole life depended on facebook? That is a correct sentence.
- sfpfc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3"I'm on the run Richard Kimble style - trying to clear my name of one of the worst crimes that an Internet user could be accused of - being a spammer"
i think making a virus that causes millions of dollars of damage, or being a internet pedo is just a weeee bit worse - BladeMelbourne, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I'm looking forward to banging grandmas - when I turn 35.
- vonskippy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6blah, blah, facebook, blah, blah.
Who ***** cares. - DangerMouse9, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3yeah, we really need another piece of ***** site like myspace or facebook with a bunch of asshats posting on digg saying "Come to my new social networking site, it has a blog, you can read all about me and my cat and the problems we face because my mom doesn't like cats in her house..."
- JordanM85, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4I think he needs to get a life first.
- ethanfortes, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I love how the moment i glance at this title, i switch back to the facebook tab.
- tim04, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3uhh...actually no. it's clear you've not really used facebook that much (myspace doesn't really apply). you still hang out with your usual friends, but the site makes it easier to make plans with friends you haven't seen for a long time and to get more comfortable with new friends. i'm not speaking for the people who spend 8 hrs a day on it, but the majority of people i know (who have lives) spend ~30 minutes just to catch up with friends and find out what's going on that weekend.
- SpencerMc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Is it really possible that I'm the only one on this thread that thinks this piece was mostly satirical? The tone of the article was clearly lightly humorous and a little self deprecating. You people all make fun of him in this smugly superior tone when, in my eyes at least, you are the ones who appear to be clueless.
Honestly. Read the article again:
"I can only wonder if I'll ever get to finish that Scrabble game with Benj," and "And what do my Facebook friends think of my sudden absence, have they even noticed? Were they notified that: 'Gordon is suspended because he is an evil spammer'...? Are my friends offended that I've disappeared, thinking that I had de-friended them for some unknown slight, online offense or quirk of my (clearly suspect) character?" - DigitalBrian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Well maybe those users did not appreciate your mails and marked them as SPAM, and if it is so I am afraid you deserve this ban, there is NO excuse for unsolicited mail, none. If we want to rid the world of spam there is only one thing that works, NO MERZY!
On the other hand if they didnt mark you spam then I think this is outrageous! - brotherfranciz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What the hell? May I have 5 minutes of my life back? What a load of *****, the guy got suspended... like I give a *****! Buried.
- sunkist22, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Exactly. I have friends on it who live hundreds of miles away. For the friends who live closer, it's used for things such as messaging or sharing pictures. People like the OP who see facebook as just a 'socialising' site are probably thinking about the little teens who spend hours on it, adding people they dont know. I recently added my best friend from elementary school... and some of her family that I knew well. I get this wonderful opportunity to catch up with people I havent seen in so long.
