Dear Digg, Stephen Colbert Doesn't Have a Twitter
ccinsider.comedycentral.com — Once and for all, here's the official denial from Comedy Central and The Colbert Report: "I've checked with the show, it's fake." No wait, that didn't come from Comedy Central. It came from... Gisele Bundchen! Yeah, and she said she loves guys who use Ubuntu.
- 2782 diggs
- digg it
- geekchic, on 05/19/2008, -31/+354I don't have a twitter either - I can't imagine anyone would actually want to know what I am doing on an hour by hour basis.
- Archeologist, on 05/19/2008, -7/+30Oh I do. I *really* do.
- drex8, on 05/19/2008, -3/+39I was going to say, *Actually, some might*..but then I looked at your profile.
- Modestexcuse, on 05/19/2008, -2/+22612:01 pm: I'm on digg.
1:01 pm: I'm still on digg.
2:01 pm: I'm on digg.- anagoge, on 05/19/2008, -2/+213:01 pm: I'm still on digg.
- nollek, on 05/20/2008, -2/+304:01 pm: I'm rubbing one out to a picture of Bill O'Reilly while listening to Rickroll, bush sucks go ron paul mr babyman diggs a lot politics is pretty cool space is also cool
- weizilla, on 05/20/2008, -2/+334:01:40 pm: i'm back on digg

- dudefaceguyman, on 05/20/2008, -0/+185:01 pm: I just peed in an empty Red Bull can, so I'm still on Digg.
- Sife, on 05/20/2008, -2/+56:01 pm: I'm replying to a Digg thread about Twitter that has been run into the ground by ridiculous losers adding one hour and then non-cleverly repeating the last post to a certain degree.
...
So I'm on still on Digg. - kinggimped, on 05/20/2008, -0/+47:01 pm: I'm flogging a dead horse. On Digg.
- anagoge, on 05/19/2008, -2/+213:01 pm: I'm still on digg.
- RudeTurnip, on 05/19/2008, -16/+17It's fun to track what people like Kevin Rose or Gary Vaynerchuk are doing, because they do interesting things and have a little bit of celebrity. Otherwise, who really cares what "regular" folks are doing. It takes time to twitter things and to read what other people do. If I am going to read what someone is doing, it better be damn well worth it and the contents of someone's breakfast or status in a traffic jam don't cut it.
- zenbiont, on 05/19/2008, -0/+24get a life people
- Gir53457, on 05/20/2008, -1/+3http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2008/4/23/
- estvir, on 05/20/2008, -0/+11Sorry, but that's pathetic.
- kylesellers, on 05/20/2008, -2/+10It's useful if you have friends. Believe it or not Twitter is not just for stalking geek-celebrities.
- Bootes, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2I didn't know anyone but "geek-celectrities" and their stalkers used it.
- zenbiont, on 05/19/2008, -0/+24get a life people
- cheezintern, on 05/19/2008, -1/+20I think they call that stalking.
- JudgeMonkey, on 05/19/2008, -1/+13Yeah, for the most part, twitter as it basically is, is ridiculous, self absorbed, and a waste of bandwidth. let us look at the public timeline right now: An old lady (self proclaimed) complaing about her teeth, another person complaining about their broken gps, and some other person simply proclaiming that some random, unidentified thing is an idiot.
However, interesting people, or people using it in interesting ways, makes it.... interesting. - yabos, on 05/19/2008, -0/+13Yeah it's stupid as *****. I signed up to get notified of Leo Laporte's TWiT podcast schedule for the live stuff he's doing but other people I added are telling me when they're having lunch, whining their kid has a cold etc. Who gives a rats ass about that stuff jeez. So I unfollowed that crap.
- yonan32, on 05/20/2008, -9/+2i really feel sorry for you people who dont have enough friends in real life who cares about what you are doing. i truly do.
- MadOtaku, on 05/20/2008, -0/+4I see them in real life and have real face-to-face conversations with them. Today, for instance, I went out to lunch with a friend of mine got some catching up done then. You know, the sort of thing normal people with real IRL friends do.
Lunch is a really good time to do these things, actually. Because people that you don't get to see often are usually off around the same time as you and you have a while to talk. It doesn't even matter if your schedules don't match perfectly; I'd already eaten lunch today, but I went with my friend just to talk with her while she ate.- dudefaceguyman, on 05/20/2008, -0/+8But you could've twittered using your phone if you had to take a piss:
6:09pm: Walking to the bathroom. Still at the resturaunt with Bob. Need to go #2
6:11 pm: On toilet.
6:11 pm: Pissing.
6:11 pm : Still pissing. Mr. Log is peeking now.
6:13 pm: Ok poop is now in the toilet.
6:15 pm: Leaving bathroom. Good thing washing hands is optional and only required for employees.
6:16 pm: Headsup to Bob. We're gonna talk about cats when I sit down.
Your friend could've missed ALL OF THAT while you were gone! - fearphage, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1You know that would be idiotic to use Twitter for that. There is already a site designated for catching those type of movements. http://hoospoopin.com
- dudefaceguyman, on 05/20/2008, -0/+8But you could've twittered using your phone if you had to take a piss:

- merreborn, on 05/20/2008, -2/+4My whole family started using twitter.
They explained it to me: It's like blogging, but you don't have to read/write nearly as much.- MadOtaku, on 05/20/2008, -2/+2I don't really understand personal blogs either. I have one, but it's just for putting up various essays I write; I refuse to bitch about my daily life to people who don't care about my whining (trust me, almost no one does—and if you know someone who does, spend time with them in real life because they clearly care about you).
- Inverno, on 05/20/2008, -0/+7Everyone clearly lives in close proximity to all their loved ones. Clearly, because that's what MadOtaku does.
- MadOtaku, on 05/20/2008, -0/+3Inverno, that's a good point and one I hadn't considered. I'm very much an "out of sight, out of mind" sort of person so it never occured to me. I'd still rather personally correspond via telephone and email, but I can see some value to it now.

- ubergeek09, on 05/20/2008, -1/+3You don't just have to put "what your doing" it's micro blogging. You could use it to share a cool news story you found on Digg with a bunch of people and things like that too.
- television, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2No one cares... where's the real news kthnxbai.
- LucciX, on 05/19/2008, -3/+340and the nominee for best line of the new media century is: "iCreaming their open-source e-jeans"
- danr2c2, on 05/20/2008, -3/+6Sorry but Apple already has a patent application on the iCream. Take it up with Apple Legal.
- MavRevMatt, on 05/19/2008, -4/+142Who actually did think that it was his personal Twitter?
- bjenidles, on 05/19/2008, -2/+1022923 Diggers and counting, that's who.
- freelancer, on 05/19/2008, -3/+6*chuckle*
- Maver1c, on 05/20/2008, -4/+1I dugg it and I didn't believe it..lol
- Falsey, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2Hardcore.
- kevman459, on 05/19/2008, -1/+8I thought at best it was maintained by the writers of his show.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 05/19/2008, -1/+20BREAKING: Denial Story Debunked! Colbert Twitter Real!
- Archeologist, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4I am waiting for this to reach his show. How awesome would that be?
- ChromaVita, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2Mildly entertaining at best.
- Archeologist, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4I am waiting for this to reach his show. How awesome would that be?

- utahnkid, on 05/19/2008, -14/+10The same gullible people who though Ron Paul had a chance.. There's plenty of sheep on Digg
- GDOG5, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1I just dugg it because it would be cool if he did
- bjenidles, on 05/19/2008, -2/+1022923 Diggers and counting, that's who.
- DanielJoel, on 05/19/2008, -5/+34We must propel this epicness to the front page.
- freelancer, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Indeed, passed to a few game boards, hopefully internet pwnage will ensue next.
- Fihiro, on 05/19/2008, -14/+2lolpwned= p
- ladon86, on 05/19/2008, -14/+152My gut tells me that Stephen Colbert DOES have a twitter.
Now you might say that you checked with Comedy Central and he doesn't. That's because you checked with Comedy Central. You should have checked with your GUT.
But dugg for truthiness anyway.- shadoturtl, on 05/19/2008, -1/+13I think Comedy Central should be put on notice. Wasting valuable time checking facts when they could be supporting our troops by attacking a Democrat's wife. I bet this "insider" secretly likes BEARS!
- Pfkninenines, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1ladon86..Are you studying under Stephen? Looks like something he would write...
- crowbar77, on 05/19/2008, -25/+55Dugg for incredibly naive diggers. I thought we were supposed to the internet elite, not the type that clicks on the "You won a free ipod" ads. Common guys, this is something reddit users would fall for.
- zwaldowski, on 05/19/2008, -8/+2Meh, not funny.
- StabmasterArson, on 05/19/2008, -3/+17The internet elite?
Let's ease back on the Ego Muffins there, hoss. You've clearly had enough.- utahnkid, on 05/19/2008, -2/+5That's enough from you "stabmaster".. What kind of psycho has a username like that?
- StabmasterArson, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2The kind with a sense of humor.
Google CB4 and then carry on with your bigamy. (since we're going to make arrogant assumptions based on handles) - utahnkid, on 05/20/2008, -1/+1I gotta be honest.. I genuinely don't care enough to look.
- StabmasterArson, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2The kind with a sense of humor.
- caramba420, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1Straight outta Lowcash! Crazy ***** named Gusto!
- utahnkid, on 05/19/2008, -2/+5That's enough from you "stabmaster".. What kind of psycho has a username like that?
- tyywebb, on 05/19/2008, -0/+8Reddit's seems to be the geekier website at the moment actually.
- baldduck, on 05/20/2008, -0/+5We can never be the internet elite without proper sentences.
- jpinsonault, on 05/20/2008, -0/+4Wait, wait, wait....wait. Internet elite? I always thought of digg as the lowest common denominator in tech news. With some cool optical illusion posts every once in a while.
I mean, really? REALLY?
- leerayIG88, on 05/19/2008, -14/+4Stephen Colbert rocks my shoes off.
- theL3G4CY, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2he rocks my e-jeans off.
- jpinsonault, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1He rocks my socks off while keeping my shoes on.
- xdeliriumx, on 05/19/2008, -20/+14Get a Twitter Stephen. Make everyone look like a dick.
- CptSpackJarrow, on 06/09/2008, -0/+1That would be too awesome.
- quomen, on 05/19/2008, -6/+96Most Digg users feel a lot more special than they really are.
- LZeppelinJ0, on 05/19/2008, -14/+24Digg lowers my self-esteem, especially when people click the red button :(

I wonder who is this person though: http://twitter.com/StephenColbert
And this twitter is still available: http://twitter.com/Stephen_T_Colbert
Wonder for how long though...hmm.
And no, I don't have a twitter either, and nor do I plan to get one anytime soon.
No offense to other twitterers out there, but the idea of twittering seems weird (more like ridiculous) to me.- jer2eydevil88, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3http://digg.com/users/StephTColbert
Looks like someone is now going to impersonate him on Digg - ligyron, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3Actually, I think it was http://twitter.com/StephenTColbert that started this whole Digg-attention thing
- verifex, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2Twitter is the epitome of what the internet is all about, lots of words, but nobody is saying anything.
- jpinsonault, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1No that's what teenagers are all about

- AndrewDB, on 05/19/2008, -13/+8Dear Stephen "I am America and so can you" Colbert:
Please, for everything that is good like puppies licking your face and your journalism, get a Twitter.
Thank you,
Everyone.

Dear Gisele Bundchen:
Thank you for posing in the water dress.
Everyone whose seen it. - rollerboy, on 05/19/2008, -4/+13Ubuntu reference plays tricks with my mind it is so irrelevant.
P.S: I use Ubuntu if that counts for anything.- AzureRise, on 05/19/2008, -1/+6Dugg for using Ubuntu.

- trotskyist, on 05/19/2008, -1/+7Is anyone really that surprised?
- Crosshare, on 05/19/2008, -11/+1Ok, so it wasn't Colbert. Does the author of this site have to come off sounding like a serious douche though?
- Daniel591992, on 05/19/2008, -9/+4Anyone know if he really wrote this:
http://www.amazon.com/review/R2QGQOG8LN0VRU/ref=cm ...
Seems legit to me.- kevman459, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3Yeah, he mentioned it on the air. He also reviewed someone's album on iTunes, I forget who at the moment.
- Avngr75, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2Wasn't it Toby Keith? I can't remember which album though...

- eminiguy, on 05/19/2008, -15/+9I don't believe his life sucks so badly to even think about getting twitter.
BURIED!! - jasontho, on 05/19/2008, -4/+2Yeah, figured it wasn't really him, but come on this is the real SHAQ right? right?? (sarcasm)
http://twitter.com/ShaquilleONeal - SteveIsTheDude, on 05/19/2008, -2/+6When REAL celebrity's (not just politicos and geeks) like Stephen Colbert or... imagine this... celebrity's that kids follow in mass, like Miley Cyrus, Beyonce, etc. get on Twitter it is going to be HUGE.
- nyadney, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4the internet will asplode when A list celebs end up on twitter.
- darlyn, on 05/19/2008, -1/+6You call Miley Cyrus and Beyonce A List?

- frelk, on 05/19/2008, -12/+1Ron Paul 2008!!
btw, Meteor Man is a terrible movie--don't watch it on Showtime!!- CkMaverick, on 05/19/2008, -3/+4I am a Ron Paul supporter and I have to say, stop doing this. You guys are turning into door to door religious fanatics. The Constitution is not a religious document, it is the choice of the individual if he/she wants to read it or not. Stop running around and throwing it or support for Ron Paul in people's faces as if you are spreading the word of god (am an atheist as well so ***** capitalizing god) or something.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 05/19/2008, -1/+8Why should I believe Comedy Central Insider over Colbert?
- hadak, on 05/19/2008, -1/+51You hear that? She loves us because we use ubuntu! I'm going to have secks! With a woman! Woooo!

https://twitter.com/StephenTColbert/statuses/81427 ...- darlyn, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3That blew his cover. Colbert can definitely afford a 360.
- katie10, on 05/19/2008, -0/+5He could've afforded an iPhone, but he wanted a free one of those, too. :)
- travistubbs, on 05/19/2008, -3/+1If there's one thing we should have all learned by now from the Internet is that you can't jump to conclusions. Sure, this is something we should already know in our everyday life, but with the amount of lies and bias that the Internet brings, everyone should take things with a grain of salt. If the piece of information you get is from a source that doesn't seem reliable or carries a bit of uncertainty with it, stop and think about it. Use the power of the Internet to try and verify and come to a positive conclusion.
- HydrogenOxide, on 05/19/2008, -5/+1He doesn't have a twitter yet, but by 10:30 some intern will have registered a ColbertNation community twitter.

- CptSpackJarrow, on 06/09/2008, -0/+1Everyone keeps burying these comments, but I think that would be a ***** riot! Stephen--get a Twitter.
- PolishLogic, on 05/19/2008, -3/+25Twitter? No thanks. Digg is as close as I'll ever get to a social networking site again, and sometimes I wonder if that's even too close.
