DIGG: New Digg Profiles Launch
blog.digg.com — The Digg team is excited to launch new Digg user profiles later tonight, the first of many cool new features rolling out this year.
- 4128 diggs
- digg it
- MuriloAlmeida, on 02/19/2008, -7/+411"Digg Images: A dedicated images section (with thumbnails). Still on track to launch in late October."
Images Section!- Jrr6415sun, on 10/10/2007, -32/+123honestly, is it that hard to make a pictures section? it better be something amazing if it's taken them 6 months to add a damn section.
- PA42, on 10/10/2007, -35/+138They're giving you what you want and you're already complaining ... stop whining and be happy you have a digg to complain about
- scooterbaga, on 10/24/2007, -28/+14well said
- Alfdog, on 10/10/2007, -31/+4random pointless comment
- jmpeagle, on 10/10/2007, -10/+10@aldog
clearly you don't know the meaning of the word random
- Roger, on 10/10/2007, -12/+36Umm.. digg owes more to its users than you seem to realize. And users have been requesting a picture section for months now, yet digg hasn't delivered.
Heck some random guy whipped up a working picture section in a couple hours ( http://digpicz.com/ ), to show you how easy and quickly digg should've been able to respond.- badjoke, on 10/10/2007, -4/+15The pictures section will need to be able to handle a lot more people. Also, pulling thumbnails and I'm sure there will be others features along with integrating it into the existing Digg functionality.
- JoshuaH, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Well DigPicz withstood the Digg effect great if I remember correctly badjoke. And Digpics also pulls thumbnails...
- hobonetweaver, on 10/10/2007, -7/+6Digg doesn't owe you *****. You don't pay them anything, you probably don't even click on the ads.
Hell, nobody clicks on the ads. I can't believe the internet still has ads. And plenty of people can't even see them.
- Damienk, on 10/10/2007, -3/+21I don't think he's complaining because they ARE making it, he's complaining (like the rest of us) because it's taking so long.
- PA42, on 11/02/2007, -9/+5I'm with you there, I don't like "it better be something amazing"
He sounds like a brat - Fungo, on 11/02/2007, -4/+6Fix the comments
- PA42, on 11/02/2007, -9/+5I'm with you there, I don't like "it better be something amazing"
- scooterbaga, on 10/24/2007, -28/+14well said
- Protoss, on 10/10/2007, -2/+56I'm willing to bet they are trying to do something to cache the images. Maybe integrating NSFW, etc. I highly doubt its just another section.
- NikoKun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+39You're probably right... They don't want NSFW pictures displaying on the front page... So giving Image submitions the option to set a NSFW tag, is probably a good idea. That way, if enough people click the "Mature content" button, the front page thumbnail wont display... who knows.
- DivisibleByZero, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2They've needed an NSFW flag on all stories for a long time now. People are generally good at putting NSFW in the title, but oftentimes I worry that even the description of a story will run afoul of my company's crazy rules.
Would be nice to have an option to just hide NSFW content from the front page.

- bs0l, on 11/02/2007, -0/+62Haha I bet Kevin was just reading that comment and was all, "Oh *****!" Then they announce that the pictures section will be delayed even more.
- mbthompson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Not quite, if you go back to the Diggnation episode where they talk about the homemade Digg pictures page, Kevin said they were trying to figure out how to span a cache of images across numerous servers so that it doesn't creep along at a snail's pace.
- DivisibleByZero, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1At a first glance, it seems like that wouldn't be any more difficult to accomplish than the video thumbnails. Would be great to see some technical details on that. I'm sure it would go way more specific than I'd ever care about.
- turpenine, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1They are probably hosting the fullsize images and you can view it in a lightbox-style thing.
- NikoKun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+39You're probably right... They don't want NSFW pictures displaying on the front page... So giving Image submitions the option to set a NSFW tag, is probably a good idea. That way, if enough people click the "Mature content" button, the front page thumbnail wont display... who knows.
- picsectionpleez, on 10/10/2007, -13/+5Dear Kevin- Why must the capchas be so dang hard? Why have upper and lower case letters when either is OK to type in? Why does my cursor disappear when I try to type in the text box? Why does it make double returns when I hit the carriage return? Did you know that if Reddit ever fixes their GUI then Digg fans might leave here in droves- especially since we have been begging to get this stuff fixed for many months? We love you Kevin- Just Please Fix the Comments. Dude I promise you there can't be that many bots trying to somehow post comments on Digg stories.
- oneoverzero, on 11/02/2007, -2/+5Not everybody has captchas
- hobonetweaver, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3You said it picsectionpleez. I don't know why people are digging you down, they need to listen to each one of your suggestions. The comment system is in need of repair, it has been for a long time, and the last repair only seemed to make things rougher.
The profiles are very nice, but please promote revamping the comment system to Digg's number 1 priority. Digg it if you digg it.
- oneoverzero, on 11/02/2007, -2/+5Not everybody has captchas
- sinurgy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16I'm sure this will be lost on many of them armchair software developers here on digg but building the picture section isn't what takes so long, it's the testing and subsequent bug fixing that comes afterward!
- PA42, on 10/10/2007, -35/+138They're giving you what you want and you're already complaining ... stop whining and be happy you have a digg to complain about
- sockpuppets, on 11/02/2007, -4/+135The new pictures section has free ice cream.
- commitone, on 10/10/2007, -5/+21Here's the video demo:
http://www.bitgravity.com/digg/ - NikoKun, on 10/10/2007, -11/+4Awesome, I can't wait for an exclusive image section... way overdue. lol Still... October... bah...
But hey, this profile update should be amazing. I can't wait! I love it when Digg adds new kinds of community features. - fuzzmeister, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23I think the reason it is taking so long is that most of their resources are dedicated to making features like these new profiles. I think the image section should get higher priority than it has, though.
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15more resources should go into fixing the comments and slow load times than anything else.
- Nossie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7the above.... and I wouldnt mind getting notified when someone replies to a comment....
not sure if that's intentional to avoid flame wars but I REALLY have having to rummage around my own comments just to see if there is any insight on what I've wrote.- aaronm67, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7It would also be nice to be able to see how many diggs your comment has without clicking on it.
- xpose, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Nossie. You are so incredibly correct. Digg should have never added any of this crap. But instead added comment nofication of replies. Its SOOO simple to code!
But they add garbage instead to make this more of a social site. Sigh. - deadmann, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4http://www.duggornot.com/
- Nossie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2the above.... and I wouldnt mind getting notified when someone replies to a comment....
not sure if that's intentional to avoid flame wars but I REALLY have having to rummage around my own comments just to see if there is any insight on what I've wrote.- Nossie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3hmmm and fixing the comments comes quite highly on my list also (sorry folks)
- hobonetweaver, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5People should have the opportunity to just delete their comment within the 2 minute editing grace period. All too often, someone double submits a post, or writes something and changes their mind about posting at all. Would it be that hard to just add a delete button and/or allow submission of a post with the only contents being " " to be deleted.
- Nossie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7the above.... and I wouldnt mind getting notified when someone replies to a comment....
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15more resources should go into fixing the comments and slow load times than anything else.
- Books, on 10/10/2007, -17/+11Can you people stop bitching about a ***** pictures section? Go to Flickr or something in the mean time...it's not the end of the world. They said you'll get it...YOU WILL GET IT.
- GrandBreton, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6*facepalm* The point of the pictures section is so we can filter them out. Not to group for easy viewing.
- pkfx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19I don't think the pictures section should have thumbnails; they can give away a surprise. The thumbnails should be optional.
- Nossie, on 10/10/2007, -10/+4you mean like this kind of surprise?
http://hometown.aol.co.uk/JBono117/goatse.jpg (no not what you think it is... found it randomly on google images)- DivisibleByZero, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Just incase the "goatse" in the filename didn't tip you off, that's big time NSFW.
/Not quite as bad as the real goatse, but still pretty effed up.
- DivisibleByZero, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Just incase the "goatse" in the filename didn't tip you off, that's big time NSFW.
- ChileanGoD, on 10/20/2007, -0/+3http://xkcd.com/318/
- Nossie, on 10/10/2007, -10/+4you mean like this kind of surprise?
- djbobhoskins, on 10/10/2007, -5/+0not hard, favs are similar to http://www.picli.com 's - and thats developed by only two guys
- da_bradler, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3wouldn't having a thumbnail ruin the story a lot of the time, well at least the funny ones.
- madmax22a, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2"the first of new features rolling out this year" - it is september what year are you even talking about
- ChileanGoD, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Once the pic section goes up.... we will have nothing else to bitch about. Then digg will become a revolutionless place of same old new stories. Then.... in a few years... we will have nostalgia about the time we cried for a pic section... it will become part of our distant memory.
- mastersquirrel3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No thats when we bitch that the comments are broken and how we don't want more things in digg. ***** does anyone remember went the tool bar went from the right to the left. That day the top story was about how to change it back.
- deboosher, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2yes.... very good addition... i like it so far.... and im drunk!!!!1
- DocHoliday22, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1What about the comments section?
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/10/2007, -32/+123honestly, is it that hard to make a pictures section? it better be something amazing if it's taken them 6 months to add a damn section.
- JonRohan, on 10/20/2007, -3/+184I like the idea of finding more about my digg habits. What types of news I digg. What Sources do my stories come from... etc.
- anaesthetica, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Yeah, something like the Google Web History "Trends" feature would be interesting. Although I think a low priority until new comments and the Images section are implemented.
- dandonia, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10This is really gonna identify the fan bois
----------------------------------------------------
on a seperate note I would like digg to have like a "Tell your story" section. I know that sounds lame and i should just make a web page(i pay for it after all), but there are plenty of times i wanted to post to digg but never couldnt be bothered blogging. Stories like my AOL UK unfair usage policy which kicked in after years of been with the company (with out warning) and cut my "unlimited" usage down to 60GB per month with my speed between 15:00 and 01:00 been on average 512K when it should be 8MB. If i could have just told my story I would have been happy.
Just because I cant be bothered scanning(dont have a scanner) in documents then posting to a blog (which i would have to sit and create like digg dont take enough of my time up) doesnt mean my story isnt news worthy and even if its a really crappy section i would love it and im sure others would.- RubberBinder, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I have thought of this exact thing
- officialdrug, on 10/26/2007, -0/+0how to download the videos available on this website?
is it possible? or v can only view them ???
can u help me??
- officialdrug, on 10/26/2007, -0/+0how to download the videos available on this website?
- kymike, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Yes, yes, yes - I would love this sort of thing, and understand completely with not having the time to actually maintain a separate blog which _then_ could be digged.
Basically, if Digg had its own blog-like feature tied to each user's profile, that would be perfect.
- RubberBinder, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I have thought of this exact thing
- birkoph, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1New feature? FAIL!! All the stories are still CRAP!!
- MasterJediDan, on 10/28/2007, -3/+257FTA: Revamped Comments: No more ajax loads, new clean and lightweight design (similar to the old comment system).
YES!! New (or at least different) comment system!- anaesthetica, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10Sounds good. Unfortunately, no ETA was mentioned in the post. While the Images section is said to be on for late October, we have no idea how long the new comment system will take.
- bs0l, on 10/10/2007, -7/+4If it's passed October thats just freakin' gay. They're already using the good comments for the podcasts.
- PA42, on 10/10/2007, -9/+1people who call things they don't like "freakin' gay" and freakin' gay
- bs0l, on 10/10/2007, -7/+4If it's passed October thats just freakin' gay. They're already using the good comments for the podcasts.
- humperdeath, on 10/10/2007, -24/+10Revamped Comments: Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you,
- thecompkid, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Warning: Revamped comment system will not prevent inevitable *facepalm* when you make a dumbass of yourself.
- Roger, on 10/10/2007, -12/+7I remember disliking the old comment system too. Why the hell are they going backwards?
- sexybobo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19they arn't going backwards they are trying to take the things people liked about old comment system and thing they like about new comment system and make a good comment system.
- KrazyA1pha, on 10/10/2007, -1/+30I remember people complaining about EVERY change to digg. I'm surprised they don't go back to the original design and tell everyone to ***** off with the complaining.
- unitedstatians, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3An optional minimalist & manageable version of digg (think pre-digg version 2 plus all cool new social networking features), actually a really good idea.
- unitedstatians, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Think about how it would make dugg history searching a lot easier. Oh!.... Don't forget comment threading, editing and all the new topic sections.
- aaronm67, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Hundreds of sites have implemented a comment system that
a) Loads quickly
b) Has threaded comments
c) Works well in all browsers
I think that's all anyone really wants in a comment system. There isn't really any reason to have it so bloated. - jer2eydevil88, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Themeable digg.... different strokes for different folks :-D some would use classic and some would use 2.0 and everyone would be happy...
- kurtu5, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah KrazyA1pha, its not like we are here on our own time and if Kevin wanted to stick it to us, we would leave.
Its not like digg has any reason to stay relevant.
- MattZB, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4I hope they make the comment system a bit more 'lightweight' so it doesn't freeze up Firefox half as much (usually giving you 3 or 4 of those 'script taking too long to complete' dialogue boxes). It's strange how the comments are split up so you have to keep clicking to view more (which, BTW, hasn't worked at all a few times), yet a page of comments freezes the browser on more occasions than it used to.
- Icebird, on 10/10/2007, -8/+4Why is everyone complaining about the commenting system?! Have you SEEN Slashdot's commenting system?! They should implement that here to shut you fools up.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8You do realize most grassroots Digg users were grassroots Slashdot users as well, right?
They've seen /.'s system. You're supposed to use something better to compare against though.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8You do realize most grassroots Digg users were grassroots Slashdot users as well, right?
- anaesthetica, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10Sounds good. Unfortunately, no ETA was mentioned in the post. While the Images section is said to be on for late October, we have no idea how long the new comment system will take.
- aguynamedben, on 10/10/2007, -3/+102finally a regular way to read who commented on what!
- dburka, on 10/10/2007, -2/+55It will be much easier to track your friends' comments in the new profiles. Huzzah!
- magicmarc, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3I love you dburka.
- WiseWeasel, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4I'd settle for being able to find my own comments... Something like the Slashdot user profile page with direct links to all comments, what they scored, and how many replies they got would be a godsend! Combine this with a digg comments display mode where *ALL* posts are visible, even when I'm logged in, and I buried some posts previously, and I'm in hog heaven...
- Roger, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9http://diggcomments.headzoo.com/ works pretty good.
The digg guys can hardly cope with coding a good commenting system, they'll prolly kill themselves trying to write a comment tracking system.- javaroast, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Nice link. That site does work pretty well. Exactly what I've been looking for and certainly will do to easily find comments and replies.
- WiseWeasel, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Oh my science! That site is freaking awesome! That is EXACTLY what we need in the digg profile page (basically a copy of /.'s profile pages)...
- captinherb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3This works really well too
http://www.neaveru.com/digg/index.html
- dburka, on 10/10/2007, -2/+55It will be much easier to track your friends' comments in the new profiles. Huzzah!
- jsully, on 10/10/2007, -29/+10I don't want to hear about a single new feature until they fix the comment system. I realize the article mentions said "fix" - but come on, give us an ETA.
- iashraf, on 10/10/2007, -9/+12Stop whining
- srgtTarantula, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1And start winning!
- NikoKun, on 10/10/2007, -7/+4Late October...
- unitedstatians, on 10/10/2007, -5/+6It's right there on the first blogged sentence: "The Digg team is excited to launch new Digg user profiles "later tonight" (most likely meaning the evening of 9/19/07 between 4-6pm), the first of many cool new features rolling out this year."
- bs0l, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Did you not understand that he wants to know WHEN the new comment system is coming out? Not the other features.
- iashraf, on 10/10/2007, -9/+12Stop whining
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/10/2007, -18/+8how about being able to delete comments
- noahhoward, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Why?
- canewediggit, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12because my mother is a cheap crack whore
- ehalasey, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7We can't make fun of you that way.
- bs0l, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I agree actually, but hopefully the new comment system won't glitch out. But what would happen if you deleted a comment with replies? Where would the replies go?
- mikev, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Same place the socks in the dryer go...no one ever knows...
- starquake, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Not true, Ren and Stimpy know.
- kindrobot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2So does Rocko.
- starquake, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Not true, Ren and Stimpy know.
- mikev, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Same place the socks in the dryer go...no one ever knows...
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4if it has replies, then you can't delete it.. but seriously i've had many double posts.. and in my original post i was saying they should fix the comments over everything else.. then i saw that i missed that they are planning on doing that.. so i had a comment open for no reason that I wanted to delete.. so i changed it to "we should be able to delete comments"... good enough story for you as to why we should be able to delete comments?
- noahhoward, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Why?
- sockpuppets, on 10/28/2007, -4/+339What if I have no friends? :(
- Aurarch, on 10/10/2007, -4/+74I'll be your friend :)
- Waterrat, on 10/10/2007, -13/+2Stay long enough and make insightful comments and you will get friends.
- kindrobot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Is this your first week or something?
- officialdrug, on 10/26/2007, -0/+0hi...how to download the videos available on this website?
is it possible?? pls help me out.. thanks
- Waterrat, on 10/10/2007, -13/+2Stay long enough and make insightful comments and you will get friends.
- sprash, on 10/10/2007, -2/+133It would be cool if the system would suggest friends on the basis of what you have dugg.
- sockpuppets, on 10/10/2007, -0/+63Then all I'd digg are articles that appeal to 21-32 year old females geographically located near me.
- mikesbaker, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7ha - there are no females on digg
- bs0l, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Story Suggest: Dozens of servers crunch the math to provide you with real-time recommendations (stories and friends) based on what you’ve dugg in the past.
- Anoobis, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Oops always helps to read the article. I missed that too.
- unitedstatians, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4@ you & Digg team perhaps, My Possible solutions: pertaining to Friends tagging
Make further use of the friends feature in this manner. I think if Diggers have befriended a another user, possibly some kind of Friends tagging can make this feature invaluable. For example, When users add a friend we need the ability to create Special Group Descriptions (tagging), friends based on location (it's a west coast, east coast thing), positive reactions (impact), comedians (funny clowns), intelligence (smart skittles), and useful insight (expertise).
[*smiles at thought of having the Digg Team consider my idea*] - Sawta, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3You mean similair to the last.fm set up of having "Negihbors" who can become your friends? It would be nice, but unless you surf the upcomming articels a lot, you probably wouldn't see much variety from what they digg (Provided that you both digg around the same time of day).
- sockpuppets, on 10/10/2007, -0/+63Then all I'd digg are articles that appeal to 21-32 year old females geographically located near me.
- Crosshare, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15I thought I was your friend Sock? That makes me a sad panda....
- MarkusGarvey, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2adopt a dog, or a cat....
- tommyfutch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I like to watch sock puppets. I'll be your friend.
- Time4SumWupAzz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Awww, you're like a homeless puppy
- Aurarch, on 10/10/2007, -4/+74I'll be your friend :)
- rplobue, on 10/10/2007, -29/+6This site used to be cool. How about making it not suck anymore before you starting adding new stuff.
- noahhoward, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12You'd have to run off all the kiddies that are on here and find all of the original techies that were here until Digg opened to a broader audience and the idiots flooded in.
- KevenM, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Enlighten Us Please. You sound like an intelligent person who's put a lot of thought into the finer details of providing a better user experience.
- AriaStar, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9If it sucks so badly, then why are you here?
- roguepirate, on 10/10/2007, -0/+189Will "Search My Diggs" ever get added back?
- JonRohan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21As a workaround hack, you can add your dugg feed to Google Reader and search it. I actually keep a folder of feeds 'from-me' that I use if I want to search my content.
- bs0l, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Even better, add a quick search in firefox so you can just type in something like "mydiggs " into the address bar.
- lynx77, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad
- lostcause, on 10/10/2007, -1/+43The search function just needs to be completely revamped.
- Urgo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4I'm really amazed that on a profile update they STILL haven't added this feature back. Anyway for the best work around use this: http://digg.com/software/Brian_Shaler_Google_Gears ...
- JonRohan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21As a workaround hack, you can add your dugg feed to Google Reader and search it. I actually keep a folder of feeds 'from-me' that I use if I want to search my content.
- sockpuppets, on 10/10/2007, -11/+101I'd like a setting to filter out the retards please.
- sockpuppets, on 10/10/2007, -3/+41Hey I clicked it and I can't see myself. What gives?
- unitedstatians, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1...but sockpuppets are people too.
- listrophy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3In the video: "Settings" -> "Viewing Preferences"
The detail under this option is not shown, but we can only hope there is a keyword filter in there. - lynx77, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2i dont know what you said because you're on block.
- masterthiefster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What would be really neat is a system that uses up/down thumbs from individual comments to calculate a user's site-wide "karma", and then allow you to set a minimum karma level you want to see comments from.
In theory, as long as people keep burying the idiots as they do now (some comments get -30 diggs or more) they would stay gone.
- code2joy, on 10/10/2007, -48/+8FIX THE LOGIN BUG... IT'S BEEN HALF A YEAR AND YOU GUYS KEEP DOING STUPID ***** LIKE ADDING USELESS FLASH VISUALIZATIONS AND SUPPORT FOR IPHONES WHILE REQUIRING ME TO LOG IN 200000 TIMES A DAY.
- Nobiting, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25Update your browser and check that you are accepting cookies.
- specialK16, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If that works, lol@code2joy.
- andshewas, on 10/10/2007, -1/+28Seems like the problem is on your end. I don't have that problem at all.
Oh, and your caps lock is stuck, just so you know. - Protoss, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Not Diggs fault. I've stayed logged into Digg on one computer for at least a year.
- phunlee, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12that's not a bug. that's you not knowing what you're doing. or trying to log-in on another computer. or trying a different web browser. or being too angry for this world.
- ehalasey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Naw, the bug does certainly exist. Can't put my finger on it, exactly, but I've got the same problem. It actually times my session out while I'm logged in. Super weird. I can definitely replicate the problem, but it happens in so many ways that I still can't tell what's causing it. And, yes, my browser is definitely accepting cookies, as gmail never logs me out.
- tavman, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4I've seen it as well. Happens all the time on IE6 (which is accepting cookies). Not so much on Firefox, but occasionally I have to log back in even if I've just dugg something 5 minutes before.
- soulknowledge, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5Dude... IE6?.... really?
- tavman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Work PC - corporate won't allow us to upgrade (?) to IE7 because HR's web-based system doesn't support it.
Hence why I installed FF.
- humperdeath, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4It is true, I get logged off periodically for no reason (IE v 6.0) This gets annoying to have to refresh the comments and log in again about every 5-8 minutes.
- KevenM, on 10/10/2007, -6/+2You know that the login is case sensitive right?
- madk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Stop using IE6 yall.
- MaZAKaR, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3sounds like a personal problem to me...
- jaygee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Sorry to have to break it to you but the simple fact is digg hates you. We thought you might get the point after 200000 login attempts. It's too bad you had to find out this way.
- Nobiting, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25Update your browser and check that you are accepting cookies.
- timusca, on 10/10/2007, -5/+36The most important part of the article has nothing to do with the title!
Digg Images: A dedicated images section (with thumbnails). Still on track to launch in late October.
Revamped Comments: No more ajax loads, new clean and lightweight design (similar to the old comment system).
Digg Alerts: Alerts will give you the ability to create customized email alerts - when a story becomes popular, summaries of popular stories on specific topics, and when your friends recommend stories.
Story Suggest: Dozens of servers crunch the math to provide you with real-time recommendations (stories and friends) based on what you’ve dugg in the past.- jzp-digg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2There's already RSS feeds - better than email alerts for me!
- supernova17, on 10/10/2007, -5/+78Diggbookspace coming soon.
- AlphaEta, on 10/10/2007, -11/+1Yep, this is the beginning of the end! I guess I'll have to migrate to a new site now that the kiddies are taking over. Digg has sold out the original community to turn a profit with a larger, less mature audience. It's a shame!
- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6What are you talking about original community, you joined in 06.
- AlphaEta, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Sorry l33t d00D, but I've been here since the beginning. I didn't like my screen name, so I created a new one. You may want to consider doing the same.
- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Why? mine is a lot better then Alphahomo.
- AlphaEta, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Sorry l33t d00D, but I've been here since the beginning. I didn't like my screen name, so I created a new one. You may want to consider doing the same.

- fugazi, on 10/10/2007, -10/+4Something not one person has been "wanting" as bad as new comments. I'm glad they have their priorities in the right order.
- KevenM, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1What is this 'something' you speak of?
- Wamzlee, on 10/10/2007, -9/+125I am a 22 year-old College Student seeking a girlfriend!
Oh, sorry. I thought Digg was becoming a dating site...- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -14/+7Who's brilliant idea was it to turn Digg into myspace? We already have a myspace, ITS CALLED MYSPACE,
I think Digg just jumped the shark.- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Digg hasn't turned into Myspace, I haven't received any friends requests from fake sluts and it hasn't crashed when loading a page.
- MavRevMatt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It's crashed when loading the damn comments...
- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Digg hasn't turned into Myspace, I haven't received any friends requests from fake sluts and it hasn't crashed when loading a page.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha - losers.- sockpuppets, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16I'm adding you as a friend just for spite.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Just because you can't find any friends vonskippy doesn't mean the rest of us can't (though I haven't tried it out myself). Don't you have a comic book convention to run off too?
- misterpony, on 10/10/2007, -0/+66After seeing Kevin's video and reading the BusinessWeek article, I wonder if they are talking about the same website. The updates actually look good--don't see myself using the Shout thing ever, but the ability to get to a list of comments, profile changes, and favorites of digg friends will be good.
- WarMachineWCLH, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2The shout thing could be useful if there is a story I think a friend of mine might digg but I myself have no iterest in. Otherwise I don't see myself using it too much either.
- MavRevMatt, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1There isn't a need for all this friend ***** on Digg.
- OBKenobi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yeah, the shout thing sounds like trouble to me.
I like being able to finally post pics on our profiles at least.- HUKI365, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I hope you can mute shouts except from your "friends" - I'm sure I and Kevin don't want spam shouts every seven seconds.
- Sueblimely, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I just used the shout feature to alert my friends of a story reporting a new type of comment spam. I will certainly use it to alert friends to other stories they may find interesing too. I hope my friends do the same so that I can read articles I may otherwise have missed.
- bsolidgold, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Looks cool. I've wondered when something like this would be implemented.
- unitedstatians, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4tonight!

- floguy, on 10/10/2007, -17/+41Anyone else think this seems a lot like Digg is trying to emulate Facebook?
- kris33, on 10/10/2007, -3/+30Facebook is a friend community. Digg is a news community.
- dykast, on 10/10/2007, -7/+5"Facebook is a friend community. Digg is not a friendly community."
there fixed it.. - bs0l, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7"Digg is a SOCIAL news and bookmarking website." - Kevin Rose himself, many times.

- mattmollysdad, on 10/18/2007, -8/+4why does digg like these terrible greens above and around this comment box. change it and that would be a big improvement.
- castillo, on 10/10/2007, -4/+35I guess I don't really need my Pownce account then.

- skyscape, on 10/10/2007, -9/+1In my experience everything that digg innovated on this site this year has been lagging and torture
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Soooo, you want faster torture then?
- jason469, on 10/10/2007, -9/+6Although, I am truly happy that the Digg team is excited about profiles, I still think the number one priority needs to be the damn comment system. All the other stuff can wait as far as most of the Digg users are concerned. Please make the comment system your biggest priority.
- KevenM, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1What would you change with the comment system? IMHO, I think it's a pretty good one.
- bs0l, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6That's a joke right? Go to the podcasts section. Look at those comments. Then come back here. You'll know what he means.
- KevenM, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Wow. I'd never bothered with the Podcasts section. Fricking bizzare, it's like a completely different site.

making digg like facebook... FTW?- bs0l, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12reverse your FTW
- rlnd, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Digg is about the community, isn't it? They're just making way for a better community, nothing wrong with that in my eyes.
- hoppdawg, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2agreed. i actually don't want all my friends to see what i write, digg or submit. facebook, myspace all serve their purposes to send messages and stay in contact. I use digg religiously throughout the day to cure my hunger for new and interesting stuff. Digg, pave your own trail. Take over the traditional media, not social networks
- Heroville, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Isn't Digg both though? It should be the ultimate social news site and as much as we may point and say "This is just Digg x Facebook!" or "Digg is trying to be Facebook-lite!" its these types of developments and integrations that will allow it to do so. If it works, it works; and if it doesn't, it doesn't but its too early to start condemning them for changes that are only a few hours old.
- joach, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15I don't know man... with all that watching friend's stuff and portrait pictures I'm getting worried that things will get too social, even girls might start Digging!!!!
- tavman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Not after a couple of days of reading the comments they won't.

Howzabout implementing this essential fix FIRST? - XStatic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19I just want to know when someone replies to my comment...
And fix the dang: Your session has expired, please refresh the page before commenting.- jcm267, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Ironic.... I got that message trying to digg you up.
- ahawks, on 10/10/2007, -4/+26For *****'s sake, can we please have our "Search My Diggs" feature back?
PLEASE?- bs0l, on 10/10/2007, -5/+3See above comments. Someone already talked about that. Use your stories dugg feed in google reader.
- arbulus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I want them to fix the problem of random threads preventing "Reply" and "Add Your Comment" from displying so that you can't comment on anything. You can reload the page about 20 times and MAYBE you can comment, and maybe not. Either way, this shouldn't be happening.
Furthermore, I want them to fix the mess that happens in Firefox when you load a comment heavy thread (usually 100+ comments) and Firefox comes to a grinding halt for 30 seconds to a minunte, and just when you think your whole system is going to crash, it pops up "There is an unresponsive script. Would you like to stop it?" That ***** is inexcusable. - wonky73, on 10/10/2007, -0/+45I ripped on this stuff on another story but after watching the video I think it's pretty cool.
For those of us old timer... early 2005, if any of you are left, this is the kind of stuff Kevin was talking about then. I remember him always talking about digg being about social networking etc. It just seems they are finally getting around to his original vision.- bs0l, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Only took two years!

- directsun, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I wouldn't give out an e-mail or IM in my profile, probably not even to digg friends. I would be more comfortable with a PM system.
And maybe I want to say something in private without recommending a story...

Why remove that Ajax system? Works fast and fine for me (on Opera) and as far as i can tell only needs better colour choices. Older system was crap in comparison.- bs0l, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Are you on drugs?
- kenok, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1just testing the comments...
edit: yeah, its better - not great but better!.
- kkeith02, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4How about we fix some other things digg:
1.) In IE, you get logged out in about 30 seconds (hey, I have to use it at work, firefox is fine!)
2.) Put a "Go" button in the comments section that you can click when you want to sort by diggs or date, etc. If the page isn't loaded all the way and you try to change the sort by (again, only necessary because IE logs you out and I don't want to log back in) drop down, it won't refresh the page.
That might be nit-picking, but they are easy as hell fixes!
Wow, as a side note when submitting this comment I get: "Your session has expired, please refresh the page before commenting."- bs0l, on 10/10/2007, -3/+61.) IE sucks. http://www.getfirefox.com
2.) IE sucks. http://www.getfirefox.com- madk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Those appear to all be IE6 problems...but still...firefox it.
- jcm267, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2He even said that he uses Firefox normally, but uses IE at work ...
Firefox fanboys like you can go to hell. If you like it, cool.... but don't hassle us who don't use it. I like Maxthon, and at work it's great because I can use all the intranet applications with it. And honestly, if Digg writes off IE users than it's writing off the vast majority of Internet users.
- Giltronic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2i think the real question is what are you doing on digg at work?

- TiCL, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Improve the search feature.
- bigapple666, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11I think this looks great for those who give a hoot about social networking. I fail to see what the point of it is, unless you personally know who eatapizza48 is in real life, or in case you went to college with upyourbutt1979. But that's my own thing.
I just wonder where the focus on the stories is. I find myself hitting the top ten Dugg stories, then poking MAYBE 3 pages deep into the front page results IF I'm really bored online, but after that, I've tapped out most of what Digg has that interests me. I'd love to have the option of selecting a view that is basically a page full of widgets of the top 10 in every category, layed out in much the same way as the 3-column view of iGoogle page. You could get much more info on one page and it would be grouped by category so could hopefully only look at what you're interested in.
Just a thought- unitedstatians, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Hey! you just described this web 2.0 site, which I use every morning to help me distill the Digg dashboard.
Here's an overview Original Signal offers a one page overview of the seven main Digg categories showing popular headlines during different time-frames of the day. Also marks stories that you haven’t seen in orange. http://digg.originalsignal.com/- unitedstatians, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It only marks stories orange if they were added since the last time you visited the site.

Just a thought.- emokid15, on 10/30/2007, -0/+0what do you mean as nieghbors.
- thegreathal, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0Making New Digg like OLD Facebook...FTW.
