I used to listen to this while I was working however it is no longer accessible in the UK
Is a great service, just wish the record companies would finally accept that the world has moved on and adapt. - mithrasinvictus, on 10/02/2008, -0/+9Why should internet radio pay (/receive) different rates from regular radio?
Make a new rate based on audience size for both. - pigfister, on 10/02/2008, -0/+7RIAA, SOUNDEXCHANGE, BPI, IFPI, Ect:

RIAA Claims Ownership of All Artist Royalties For Internet Radio
http://slashdot.org/articles/07/04/29/0335224.shtm ...
"With the furor over the impending rate hike for Internet radio stations, wouldn't a good solution be for streaming internet stations to simply not play RIAA-affiliated labels' music and focus on independent artists? Sounds good, except that the RIAA's affiliate organization SoundExchange claims it has the right to collect royalties for any artist, no matter if they have signed with an RIAA label or not. 'SoundExchange (the RIAA) considers any digital performance of a song as falling under their compulsory license. If any artist records a song, SoundExchange has the right to collect royalties for its performance on Internet radio. Artists can offer to download their music for free, but they cannot offer their songs to Internet radio for free ... So how it works is that SoundExchange collects money through compulsory royalties from Webcasters and holds onto the money. If a label or artist wants their share of the money, they must become a member of SoundExchange and pay a fee to collect their royalties.'"

Why would the RIAA want to stop webcasters being able to play indie music and bypass them? Its a big ***** scam and the riaa members need to be named and shamed so a boycott of all their media and riddled with DRM hardware can be avoided. - inactive, on 10/02/2008, -0/+6don't be fooled - they know their reputation is *****, and they no doubt see this as a way to trick you into thinking (as you say) that they're not pure evil. Don't fall for it!
- totalpicture, on 10/01/2008, -2/+7We did a podcast with Tim Westergren, the founder of Pandora, several weeks ago on Total Picture Radio discussing this issue. Fans of Pandora might be interested in this. http://www.totalpicture.com/content/view/644/183/
- MicrosoftBob, on 10/02/2008, -0/+3Don't dig'em down folks. It's pertinent and not really spam.
- geoff1210, on 10/02/2008, -0/+3***** the RIAA.
- strictnein, on 10/02/2008, -0/+2Congrats on the copy and paste
- phrawgh, on 10/02/2008, -0/+2She's a little bit pregnant, senator.
- lr4life, on 10/02/2008, -0/+2Good. At least congress has decided to do something about it. We need these types of media outlets around to give us some variety.
- Versh, on 10/02/2008, -0/+2LOUD NOISES!
http://noises.ytmnd.com/ - migshark, on 10/02/2008, -0/+2It's not just about Pandora. I, for instance; enjoy listening to my national radio station (Triple J) but because of time zone differences, it's broadcasted two hours later. I just want quality, live radio. The tubes are the answer.
- radio4fan, on 10/02/2008, -0/+2I had the same problem, but set up a web proxy on a US server and run it through that.
You should be able to find a free proxy server based in the US and do the same.
No need to proxy all your web traffic through it, use a .pac proxy config file to just stream pandora traffic through it:
function FindProxyForURL(url, host) {
if (shExpMatch(url, "*.pandora.com/*")) {return "PROXY :[host]:[portnumber]";}
if (shExpMatch(url, "*.pandora.com:*/*")) {return "PROXY :[host]:[portnumber]";}
// all other traffic direct
return "DIRECT";
}
Replace [host] and [port number] with the hostname and port number of your proxy server. - bossm4n, on 10/02/2008, -0/+1And thus we see who is behind the attempt to kill internet radio. NAB and Clear Channel lobbyists are the ones attempting to kill the legislation that would postpone these absurd royalty payments. Clear Channel killed radio as we knew it, now they are attempting to kill that which they do not control, internet radio. Let's follow the money trail and see who those professional lobbyists are giving money to.
- divinediva, on 10/01/2008, -2/+2It paves the way for Sound Exchange to use the coming months to pursue helpful solutions that allow all services to focus on business development.
- darkfiremp3, on 10/02/2008, -1/+1Economy collapses, put it off to Thursday, internet radio needs help, do it now.
- inactive, on 10/02/2008, -4/+4too bad congress is about to ***** us all over hardcore by voting for the bailout
- ArthurSucks, on 10/02/2008, -1/+1Digital Gunfire Radio sofves this problem by only playing non BMI ASCAP Soundexchange bands. Independent musicians and radio is the ONLY way. ***** the main stream anyways.
- bdfariello, on 10/01/2008, -2/+1Never thought I'd say this, but after reading
"The RIAA and SoundExchange actually worked with the webcasters to see the bill through, providing a serious lobbying counterpoint to the broadcasters."
I guess the RIAA isn't pure evil after all. - butch456, on 10/02/2008, -2/+1LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!
