Confirmed: Yahoo Acquires MyBlogLog for $10 Million

mashable.com — Forbes has just confirmed Yahoo’s purchase of MyBlogLog, the Florida-based blog communities service, for $10 million. That price doesn’t come from Yahoo itself, but from “knowledgeable sources”, they say. Bradley Horowitz, VP of product strategy at Yahoo, said that MyBlogLog would remain a separate entity.

  • AndyBeard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14MyBlogLog isn't a blogging site, it is a distributed social network with built in analytics. The community features work well as long as various forms of spam are eliminated. It is a little too easy to "gmae" atm for traffic. That being said the developers knocked it together with a very small team, without funding, and yet still have time to respond to blog comments from the community. It is cool when you report a bug, and one of the founders responds to your email.

  • freff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The very fact that you would care enough to ask that question increases their value for Yahoo. I'd never heard of them before, but now that Yahoo owns them, they'll have a brief period of time to prove to people that they are worth a damn.

    It'll be interesting to see what happens.

    As one of the Founders of MyBlogLog, I can guarantee that that little feature will not go away. But many, many more great new ones will show up soon -- including having enough server power to not slow down when we get hit by the Digg Effect. ;)

    But then again, maybe I'm placing too much stock in people's attention to facts on Digg.

    They probably won't change it, but what about protecting user data from from the gov't. Another reason I love Google, they never caved in when the feds came knocking, unlike Yahoo! and MSN and others. Google took the feds to court and won, to protect US, their users.

  • lnf69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yahoo! used to be my starting point for the net. I used to do all my searches there, my main email was from Yahoo! domain, chatting etc. AND then Google came along and changed all that. No comparison.
    Yahoo! used to be great, just like Netscape used to be the best alternative to MS Browsing, (Firefox now), and then we got a taste of something better.
    I know it's being tough, but Google came and redefined what Web portals should be.

    Maybe Google are saving their pennies to buy Digg.

    One thing I wonder about is the kind of data you can collect with this thing. Basically it knows about everywhere I visit, or so I assume. The right kind of data mining, then, could dig up all kinds of interesting stuff about me and everyone else using the service.

    But it's also great for the people surfing around. It's really freaky seeing your own picture on someone else's site! It just is. Course there's more to it than that, and better minds than me can more deeply analyze Yahoo's intentions, I'm sure.
