''We're sorry, currently our video library can only be streamed within the United States. For more information on the Hulufied Youtube's international availability, click here. aka go ***** yourself.''
Nooooooooo! - flamyngo, on 04/01/2009, -1/+37I love when i get the option of one big commercial in the beginning.
- astromj, on 03/30/2009, -2/+19I wish. As a European I really feel the need of some Hulu over here....
- cadmiumpaint, on 04/01/2009, -2/+15i prefer the commercial breaks. it feels like i'm watching tv. i hate ticker style ads that ruin the picture.
- BugMeNot2, on 04/01/2009, -1/+13But the story was posted March 30th and I like avocados.
- sq377, on 03/31/2009, -2/+13I hope not...
Hulu has unintrusive commercials. Youtube has text ads over the video. - rpapi100, on 04/01/2009, -1/+12As a Canadian, I second that feeling. Living 6 hours away from the U.S. makes it even more frustrating...
- v1c1ous, on 04/01/2009, -0/+10Question:
when watching Hulu, do you prefer the 3 15-30 seconds random ads in between breaks for a 30 min show, or the 1 minute long add and no ads for the entirety of the show? - rypic7, on 04/01/2009, -0/+10r.i.p. youtube.
- Dreamstate, on 04/01/2009, -1/+7Dugg for truth.
- cadmiumpaint, on 04/01/2009, -2/+7cbs.com kinda sucks though.
i tried watching some shows on there and it was miserable. - inactive, on 04/01/2009, -1/+6ThemTube
- Bidofthis, on 04/01/2009, -1/+5eBayification of the interwebs. We are doomed!
- evergrim, on 04/01/2009, -0/+4One big ad: Time to pour a drink and have a piss.
- rpapi100, on 04/01/2009, -0/+4Thanks Orangutan and Sharik for trying to help, I already knew about hotspot (not Dreamhost however), anyway for now torrenting does the job but It would be fun to do it in a more legal manner. I don't really watch TV (actually I never watch TV, I don't own one) so I'm in no hurry but still the few shows I occasionally watch are excessively hard to come by via streaming.
I just find it frustrating considering the U.S. and Canada actually have a free trade agreement and stuff like ''U.S. exclusives'' (or the reverse, Canadian exclusives) still happen. I kind of get it for cultural products (like TV and Movies) but for stuff available in Canada being sold by American retailers (notably amazon.com and newegg.com (yes I know about the .ca versions))
I mean come on!
Why can I not spend my money in the U.S. if it's cheaper for me and you guys do the same (maple syrup and seal fur for cheap! (europe is going to start boycotting or seal fur), ok, bad examples)
This is really disappointing considering the U.S. and Canada are two of the biggest free-market advocates.
I mean what is there to lose? The U.S. and Canada are all ready BFF and are really integrated*.
Anyway, /rant
*Hey lets make a deal (Civilization-style), you guys give us access to your market and we lend you are banking system regulatory system! I get TV and Movies you get your economy back. - cheeseron, on 04/01/2009, -1/+5yay alienating the end user content creator
- yurishoujo, on 04/01/2009, -2/+5but but but.... where will we get our videos of cats doing silly things, or fat kids pretending they have lightsabers?
- Orangutan, on 04/01/2009, -1/+4try this http://www.hotspotshield.com/ it seems like it would work. living in the US i havent installed it but i recommended it to a friend in italy and i think they got it working without much trouble.
- Visarga, on 04/01/2009, -0/+2Europe is outside the world map for Google.
Hey Google boyz! I have an idea. Open Google Earth and rotate a little to the left. There is a continent called Europe there. It is filled with 500 million people. They know english and want to watch the videos just like the Americans. Duh! - psixaos, on 04/01/2009, -0/+2Maybe it is because Hulu has begun to earn as much as Youtube in 2009 in ad revenue, while streaming content that is only a 10% of Youtube's.
Source: http://newteevee.com/2009/03/31/analyst-hulu-to-br ... - yacks, on 04/01/2009, -0/+2good luck getting all the licensing agreements.. that's what is stopping Hulu from going international.. It's the same reason why The Wonder Years isn't out on DVD..
- MisterEThoughts, on 04/01/2009, -0/+2Ehh, oh well. Moving on to another website.
- maqikelefant, on 04/01/2009, -3/+5I sure hope not. Hulu sucks balls.
- tyber, on 04/01/2009, -0/+2youtube's dead, long live vimeo!
- inactive, on 04/01/2009, -0/+2go avocados!
- innovati, on 04/01/2009, -3/+4the problem with unskippable BIG ads, is if you're spot checking a bunch of episodes to figure out which ones you have already seen - you have to see ALL THE ADS all the time.
They get their money, but you might end up watching 10 minutes of ads, for one episode.... - roxgod666, on 04/01/2009, -2/+3I don't think those ads come up in full screen.
- RoboDonut, on 04/01/2009, -1/+2The big ad.
- AzzX, on 04/01/2009, -2/+3As long as it works on xbmc.
- tyber, on 04/01/2009, -0/+1well maybe not that extreme, it's just the internet. i get what you're saying though.
- Dreamstate, on 04/01/2009, -1/+2Great, just one more thing though, this will make YouTube completely useless for anyone outside the US enjoying music videos and stuff like that.
I already can't watch most music videos due to copyright claims and location restrictions, this will just make me take youtube off of my hotbar. - diggimator, on 04/01/2009, -0/+1better than the chewbacca defense.
- Visarga, on 04/01/2009, -0/+1Well, for that alone I hope they become irrelevant and disappear. Let other companies, with better concepts take the stage.
- KRG12345, on 04/01/2009, -0/+1Hopefully they wont ***** up the redesign like facebook did.
- Philbert, on 04/01/2009, -0/+1But then it wouldn't be metube anymore.
- Philbert, on 04/01/2009, -0/+1It's better than ABC's though.
- diggimator, on 04/01/2009, -1/+1***** geoblocking! Hulu sucks international balls.
- rypic7, on 04/01/2009, -1/+1swk pre-dates youtube by three years. he'll live on.
- Sharik, on 04/01/2009, -1/+1I'm Canadian and can use my Dreamhost account with an SSH shell as an Amarican proxy, which allows me to go on comedycentral.com, watch The Daily Show, NBC episodes, etc.
Hulu is one of the few that employ some sort of proxy detection mechanisms to prevent international access. - SaladCactusKing, on 04/01/2009, -1/+1(insertsnarkyonewordcommentinreplies)Tube.com
- dawna67, on 04/01/2009, -1/+1Its still March 31st here. We can only hope its an April Fool's joke
- AndrewWiggin, on 04/01/2009, -2/+2Really? I'm not sold on a commercial interrupting me from what I'm watching as being worse than an ad overlayed on the bottom of the screen, as long as I can x it out like on Zero Puncuation.
Unintegrated ads are so 20th century... - SuPeRDoO89, on 04/01/2009, -0/+0Its kinda like what these guys are planning on doing....
http://digg.com/design/Click_to_Stream_1080p_Beaut ... - factsahoy, on 04/01/2009, -0/+0An eyesore and a technically incompetent one at that. The comment replies have never worked.
- Visarga, on 04/01/2009, -1/+1the ***** YouTube and Hulu do feels like the ***** Berlin Wall or the fence in Palestine.
- Visarga, on 04/01/2009, -2/+1>I sure hope not. Hulu sucks balls.
Especially in Europe.
It only displays a text message.
I don't get it. What do people find so interesting about that? I could whip up a Europe-Hulu site in 10 minutes. - jakereilly, on 04/01/2009, -3/+2How about youtube just copy hulus design?
I'll take that professional design over youtube's crappy amateur design any day. youtube is an eyesore. - Tizlox, on 04/01/2009, -8/+7pssst... it's April 1st.
- bonk2k, on 04/01/2009, -2/+1But I can already watch cbs shows on cbs.com. Why do I need to go to youtube to watch them? This reminds me of when imdb said they were doing the same thing, and just embedded videos from the original websites.
