- AmyVernon, on 08/04/2008, -3/+99how utterly moronic. at least the PR guy showed a reasonable sense of humor...
- granolajoe, on 08/04/2008, -5/+67I honestly don't think Circuit City's reputation could have gotten any worse after firing their highest-earning employees, and telling them that they could be re-hired at their starting pay. A dumb joke by Mad Magazine somehow affecting them when they're already at their lowest? Come on...

- WiretapStudios, on 08/05/2008, -3/+43The apology letter was great. Rarely do you get that kind of sense of humor and honesty about a mistake. Too bad they never have anything I want or I might shop there.
- diggit83, on 08/05/2008, -1/+30"Fire dog" I mean honestly WHO THE HELL THINKS THIS WAS A GOOD NAME?
- DirkBelig, on 08/05/2008, -2/+29Anyone else find it odd that the PR weasel's letter was several times more humorous than the original MAD piece?

Speaking as "an embarrassed corporate PR Guy,"...As a gesture of our apology and deep respect for the folks at MAD Magazine, we are creating a cross-departmental task force to study the importance of humor in the corporate workplace and expect the resulting Powerpoint presentation to top out at least 300 pages, chock full of charts, graphs and company action plans. In addition I have offered to send the Mad Magazine Editor a $20 Circuit City Gift Card, toward the purchase of a Nintendo Wii ... if he can find one!

MAD should hire this guy! - jbenson2, on 08/05/2008, -3/+23Way to go Circuit City! An honest apology for a mistake.
- then00b, on 08/05/2008, -0/+20That was the best part about it. The PR guy's apology letter made me LOL.
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -5/+23Biting sarcasm and humor have been a staple of Mad Mag for as long as they have been in existence.
- WordsnCollision, on 08/05/2008, -2/+19Score one for The Usual Gang of Idiots. MAD, i mean.
- diggit83, on 08/05/2008, -0/+14I actually like water goat better....
- xptoast, on 08/05/2008, -1/+14Now I have a name for women and their time of the month.
- Sakumi, on 08/05/2008, -0/+9It's not catchy, the logo is green and black and fully of ugly. WTF were they thinking?!
- kenedamick, on 08/05/2008, -0/+9Circus titties
- RadiatedAnt, on 08/05/2008, -0/+9Damn Mongorians always tearing down my ***** wall!
- BooLag, on 04/23/2009, -2/+10Circus City
- sindex, on 08/05/2008, -1/+8Pretty funny and decent apology letter though.
- Sairynn, on 08/05/2008, -0/+7And yet they still have to put the "Contains peanuts" label on peanut butter.
- oldhick, on 08/05/2008, -1/+8In most cities, Best Buy's only competition is Circuit City (granted how competitive Circuit City is is debatable). I seriously hope Circuit City will get their act together because competition is good! Right now the only thing keeping Circuit City is the deals being provided to them by manufacturers.
- Rained, on 08/05/2008, -0/+6Circus *****
- whatisnotmyname, on 08/05/2008, -1/+7Dear Sidzilla,
We apologize for firing you upon your recent raise to $8.07 an hour. Had our cross-departmental task force been in place at the time of your firing we would have informed you of the humor in your situation by presenting you with a relevant New Yorker cartoon. Such cartoon would have been both pithy and irreverent, and would certainly assist you in this transition.
Please consider this Digg post a non-transferable substitute for the aforesaid New Yorker cartoon. You are, however, still terminated.
With love,
Circuit City Management. - mediaspree, on 08/05/2008, -3/+9Clearly a marketing gimmick to get their name all over digg, reddit, et al. for two days
- killerofkiller, on 08/05/2008, -2/+8The Red Menace.
- Smokeydabear, on 08/05/2008, -1/+6I actually subscribe to MAD Magazine. The parody was so realistic looking, that I thought Circuit City took out an ad in the magazine.
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -1/+6They will probably get a chance to hire him since Circuit City tends to fire people who make more than $8 an hour.
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -1/+6Jerk it silly.
- Cenobite, on 08/05/2008, -0/+5I agree, but that's kind of like saying peanuts have been a staple of peanut butter for as long as it's been in existence.
- habbofresh, on 08/05/2008, -2/+6to quote the immortal Alfred E Neumann:
"What. Me worry?" - mmcdonald11987, on 08/05/2008, -1/+5I currently work for Circuit City. It's a horrible place to work as far as management goes. They are so concerned with numbers, and we aren't even commission anymore! It's ridiculous. I have worked there for almost 2 years now and work in computers right now but this week I am moving to the Warehouse because I have grown tired of the numbers game in computers and being pressured all the time. Firedog is the lamest service name in the world...they should have come up with something better. Having worked close with the service at my store, however, I think the service is actually pretty good with us. I have great co-workers, but sucky managers.
- PDF84, on 08/05/2008, -0/+4I worked at Circuit. Glad I left before that happened.
- Techx4, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3yea i agree fire dog is a horrible name... just as good as water goat would be.. dumbasses
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3I once bought a TV from Circuit City (of course when I brought it home it was broken), and when I tried to return it the very same day, they said my warranty was up.
What the hell? - XombieRobot, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3You're a ***** douchebag.
- yourmanstan, on 08/06/2008, -0/+3"we are creating a cross-departmental task force to study the importance of humor in the corporate workplace"
LOL - schuder, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3In fairness both company's price match thing is pretty awesome, specially since they're always right next to each other.
- joser916, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3cuz "fire cat" was retarded to use
- dummptyhummpty, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3I worked at BBY when they came out with that and every one was like "WTF?" I've seen their car maybe two-three times in the past two years and have seen their commercial under five times. Whereas I see Geek Squad weekly.
- MasterDwarf, on 08/06/2008, -0/+2Mad Magazine is still in print?
- cheeseron, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2mind you
- ncc74656m, on 08/05/2008, -1/+3While I feel bad for the dumb jerk in the PR role who had to stick his name out there to cover up this mess, Circuit City should really be doing a lot more to actually improve its ***** service, not just trying to silence anyone who questions it.
This incident, combined with others like the guy who complained about being harassed by a manager at, I think, Best Buy when he gave his opinion of a product to another customer, makes me really wonder what power hungry small-minded fools run these "businesses." I emphasize that word because they are really obviously trying to put off and piss off their customers. - xonahuia, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2I didn't know Circuit City sold Mad Magazine either. But between Best Buy and Circuit City, I prefer going to go to Circuit City because of numerous terrible customer service incidents at Best Buy. Luckily Best Buy's security didn't tase me bro like they did that poor lady
- PDF84, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2The best thing that Circuit gave me was employee discount of 50% off direct-from-manufacture home theater speakers.
- hokie47, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2Yep the world of up selling. I called Verizon billing today to change something, and the women tried to sell me on 3 different things.
- XombieRobot, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2Firedog,
Like firefox but in real life right?
***** terrible. - inactive, on 08/05/2008, -2/+4RTFA. Only a handful of stores sells magazines.
- xonahuia, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1too bad Mad Magazine doesn't put all their old and new magazine content online but they definitely should
- brook011, on 08/05/2008, -1/+2I work at Circuit City and am quite happy with what I make for a salesperson. :)
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1I was under the impression that "The Streisand Effect" only applied to somebody trying to censor something off of the internet, which is not the case here.
A big example would be how the entire Scientology backlash started -
