- scriptcoder, on 06/14/2009, -124/+1686Well.....it is on a mac website. Kinda the knowledge level I'd expect there.
I kid...hehe. - yocouchdigga, on 06/14/2009, -13/+506what the ***** is the internet?
- WinstonIV, on 06/14/2009, -6/+424I'm not so sure hilarity ensued
- inactive, on 06/14/2009, -4/+416Why bother? Just pick up one of those free aol CDs, it's all on there. I swear, some people are so technically challenged it isn't funny.
- charm803, on 06/14/2009, -21/+389"They have the internet on computers now?"
Seems like a dumb question, but this generation is growing up with the internet available on phones, and with things like digital cameras and video phones. It was once so far fetched to take a picture an instantly see it. When I was growing up (I'm 29) we had to wait a week for pictures to develop.....a WEEK.
Can't blame them for asking for things which we think in terms of "duh! of course not!" because for them, it's almost possible. - remino, on 06/14/2009, -0/+343Reminds of the time when I asked a guy for a copy of certain programs. He came next week, bragging he could fit everything on one floppy. All he copied was program shortcuts.
- inactive, on 06/14/2009, -4/+315Let's be honest, MOST Mac AND PC users are dumb enough that you could convince them they could download the internet with enough tech jargon. It's why IT people have jobs. It's why Best Buy can get away with selling $150 Geeksquad "service" that includes such scary and complicated things as "virus removal" and "spyware check".
The best thing the technology support industry ever did for itself was sound complicated enough that people are scared to touch it. Imagine the caveman as he is fascinated and simultaneously terrified by fire, now upgrade that caveman to a businessman and upgrade the fire to firewire 800. - bonarez, on 06/14/2009, -2/+246Sure you can dowload the internet, I have it on floppy somewhere, I'll mail it to you if you want.
- yournightmare, on 06/14/2009, -2/+223I'm older than you and when I was growing up we had Polaroids.
- Rodik, on 06/14/2009, -2/+204actually... by the looks of the thread they handled it pretty quietly and un-troll-ly
(also: FTA: "andrew upstairs": "Can I access the internet with this pad and pencil?" ) - StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -5/+206It's a Mac site, you need hilarity.dmg
- portis, on 06/14/2009, -14/+197I was looking for the hilarity but couldn't find it. Do I have to download hilarity.exe to make it appear?
- dicer999, on 06/14/2009, -23/+203You better be on Linux.
- MrInfallible, on 06/14/2009, -4/+157So can you?
- darkNiGHTS, on 06/14/2009, -0/+146Reminds me of the time I told my friend about magnet compression.
You take a magnet and place it on the middle of the floppy disk and slowly drag it to a corner. Repeat several times. The magnet will push all of the data to to that corner, thus freeing up 3/4 of the space on the disk.
He fell for it. - Dragonspawn, on 06/14/2009, -0/+131Reminds me of playing Star Wars Galaxies when someone asked how you pause the game. The thought of 10,000 people sat waiting for him to return from the toilet was too much :D
- squatz, on 06/14/2009, -27/+156He was just trolling. Everyone knows that Mac users are geniuses.
- Contrarius, on 06/14/2009, -7/+129Obvious troll is obvious.
- EggAndMuffin, on 06/14/2009, -5/+120Download the internet here:
goatse.cx - lamiaconfitor, on 06/14/2009, -7/+110No, some things still have to be complete idiocy. I think this is one of them.
- charm803, on 06/14/2009, -2/+102Only if you use this wireless notebook:
http://a5.vox.com/6a00d414198da4685e00fa969a3e6d00 ... - Rodik, on 06/14/2009, -4/+101no, but i think you should delete sarcasm.dll
- rewritable, on 06/14/2009, -0/+88A friend of my wife believes that every website she visits will install itself on her computer. She told me is worried her computer will get so full of the internet that it will freeze up. I attempted to explain a browser's cache to her but you can imagine how well that went.
- rubixcubez, on 06/14/2009, -3/+88I can't remember where, but I was on a forum and someone asked if their new processor came with batteries included.
- tidu, on 06/14/2009, -0/+83I expected a bunch of funny retorts from the forum members, but instead they legitimately answered the question. No lols involved...
- algaeturd, on 06/14/2009, -3/+82I'm younger than you and the Polaroid has been hijacked by hipster photographer wannabes. So that doesn't count anymore.
- GreatDrok, on 06/14/2009, -4/+73You know, the funny thing is that daft as this question may seem I have done something like what he wants when going on trips. I used to commute for a couple of hours by train and before I set off I would open tabs to all my favourite websites and open more tabs for any story's comments page that looked interesting. I could easily get a couple of hours worth of reading on my laptop fairly quickly, then shut the lid and off I went. I also used to use AvantGo quite a lot with my Palm Vx. This was nearly a decade ago when I first got broadband and there weren't many places you could get network access. WiFi wasn't common at all on laptops of the day; the first one I got with wireless was my iBook G4 in 2003.
- inactive, on 06/14/2009, -4/+68Except well it was a Mac forum, so unless he's using Windows, he has no system32 to delete. Your answer was as stupid as his original question. Congratulations!
- yatucaMP, on 06/14/2009, -0/+62the OP asked if he could use AIM or FB chat while offline.
hence your suggestion to use software products to download and save a cache of a website would not work, since the thing the OP wanted to do was access a live, dynamic service.
read the article first before you open your mouth, it may make you appear smarter - fezzasus, on 06/14/2009, -3/+65"Paul fills his spare time maintaining a paper based hard copy of the internet he has been keeping as part of an art project since 2002."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Mullen - Varanos, on 06/14/2009, -1/+63Did hilarity ensue?
- algaeturd, on 06/14/2009, -5/+65Again, this is Digg. I'm going to have to ask you to refrain from using rational thought and common sense on here during peak hours. You're confusing the regulars by speaking about things like 'real life' and referring to things that happened more than 2 years ago.
- dragossh, on 06/14/2009, -3/+61Maybe he was serious because he wasn’t 13.
- EggAndMuffin, on 06/14/2009, -17/+73Delete system32 and your computer will be able to download as much internet as you want.
- dragossh, on 06/14/2009, -0/+56Please download Facebook, make it functional offline and come back.
- VyRuZ, on 06/14/2009, -3/+57Like Kanye.
- po43292, on 06/14/2009, -0/+52I've had to explain to my mom many times that ripping a DVD won't make Netflix "know what you did" somehow.
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -2/+53I only have a wired notebook: http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/ ...
- EdGasket, on 06/14/2009, -2/+53Can't you just transfer it a Zip disk for me? Package should be lighter. I have a Zip-100 though. It can't read Zip-250 disks.

you don't know how many G3 iBooks I'e had to fix because of the 'it just works' mantra, because people don't know how to work it in the first palce. - buddamus, on 06/14/2009, -7/+45Some people should not have the Internet or a computer for the sake of mankind
