- HillerMylife, on 07/24/2008, -0/+13You might want to unplug your ethernet cable.
- KMartSheriff, on 05/09/2008, -9/+19AT&T isn't perfect, but Verizon sucks massive whale *****.
- clclark33, on 05/09/2008, -0/+10I'd go as far as to say neither has a truly superior network. It all depends on where you are. At my home, Verizon's coverage is bollocks, but ATT has a tower less than a mile from me. I've had issues with both, but don't pretend that Verizon is so great. I had a conversation drop 4 calls within 10 minutes last night with Verizon. Granted, the ATT wireless network was busy when I tried to check voicemail, but I hate dropped calls and bad reception which is why I'm dumping Verizon.
- leontes, on 05/09/2008, -0/+9Something odd is going on: There appears to be a huge shift in the manner by which Apple is demanding revenue sharing for the iphone. Carriers that are willing to pay for exclusivity get it, but, like it Italy, Apple appears to be willing to let multiple carriers sell the iphone.
- bigsteve, on 05/09/2008, -0/+8So you're complaining that the tech news site is covering too many tech industry leaders?
- Flamancot, on 05/09/2008, -1/+8CDMA can suck a chode - sprint and verizon are really shooting themselves in the foot by offering it
- TriZz, on 05/09/2008, -1/+8I don't want to read about people like me...I already know what it's like. It's not interesting.
- haydesigner, on 05/09/2008, -0/+6@ColorBlind: "my phone" "my house"
Well, case closed people! There's all the definitive proof you need! - MacParrot, on 05/09/2008, -0/+6And yet you manage to pay for a computer and Internet access while not having money for gas or food....interesting
- cjays1, on 05/09/2008, -2/+7"I can't afford gas or food. I want to read about people like me" //Start a computer company in your garage and then maybe we can read about you.
- calgone, on 05/09/2008, -0/+5Yeah I've maybe dropped a call once or twice in the 4 years I've been with ATT. Where I live their service is awesome and Verizon is hit or miss. It really comes down to where you live, neither service is "superior" overall.
- IphtashuFitz, on 05/09/2008, -1/+6CDMA is pretty much restricted to the US. GSM (3G, especially) is the standard used all over Europe Asia, Australia, etc. and is also becoming more prevalent in the US. If you were a businessman rolling out a new high tech mobile device would you want it to be usable world wide or only within the US? Besides, Verizon is rolling out GSM as well, so in theory they'll be able to support iPhones in time. So the effort required to design & build a CDMA iPhone is marginalized even more since it would only really help one or two smaller carriers.
- quelcertoleo, on 05/09/2008, -0/+4The point in Italy is very different, unlike most EU countries in Italy the vast majority of customers uses prepaid services, not postpaid, that would have a serious impact on apple's revenue sharing.
Also, in Italy it is illegal to sell the telephone locked to a single ISP, as long as the phone isn't free with your contract activation.
Ah, one more thing, personally I think that people at Apple clearly understood that the real money will come with the application store + itunes. - inactive, on 05/09/2008, -1/+5Really they all suck, T-Mobile is the only one that when I called for help I didn't hang up feeling all mad.
- badqat, on 05/09/2008, -0/+4Unless you're on a CDMA, you'd have no issues using the iPhone on your carrier.
- widgetmaker, on 05/09/2008, -0/+4Verizon is half owned by Vodafone, you're halfway there.
- phogasmic, on 05/09/2008, -1/+4Verizon Wireless sucks big balls. They're network may be reliable for voice but they are WAYYYYYY!!!! behind the curve with they're data because they lock they're phones down with BREW and try to push they're stupid music and game services on you.
- WiseWeasel, on 05/09/2008, -0/+3That goes to Apple and the carrier...
- macslut, on 05/09/2008, -2/+5I'm still not 100% happy with AT&T, but they are making some serious improvements:
1) Expanding 3G coverage (finally) and with the new (rumored/speculated) iPhone 2
2) Now includes free access to their WiFi hotspots
3) Their hotspots now include Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, and a bunch of hotels
4) I've seen them fixing dead zones...several in the past year
5) Purchase of spectrum they'll be using for 4G (a ways off, but still)

http://chepeau.com - miriv365, on 05/09/2008, -1/+4In houston. I have had Verizon for years now and haven't had an issue with their service. I am leery about switching to ATT just because of the issues I saw with my brothers' phones when we had Hurricane Rita & Tropical Storm Allison go through here, however come June, I will bite the bullet and see what happens. I remember them not being able to get any kind of connection while my Verizon phone worked fine. As far as the Voyager is concerned, its based on Windows Mobile...which really, really sucks. I have a Treo 700 wx, and I can't wait to get rid of it when the new iPhone comes out.
- mrsteveman1, on 05/09/2008, -1/+3the real money comes from the hardware, the rest is there to support it.
- stjoad, on 05/09/2008, -1/+3Just because these products are powerful enough to be used in a corporate setting doesn't mean that Apple markets to corporations.
- skitle007, on 05/09/2008, -2/+4I would like to get an iPhone as well, but have found ATT to be lacking in service compared to my local carrier. Maybe if ATT gets better (HA) or their exclusive contract ends.
- vypergts, on 05/09/2008, -0/+2You clearly haven't read this: http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080509-noki ...
- vinnieT, on 05/09/2008, -1/+3Although they have some server products, Apple does not market to corporations. There was a great Business Week article about this a few weeks ago. Apple is focused on the consumer market. They don't have account reps that specifically handle corporations. They don't have business-specific models like Dell and HP offer. They don't have on-site repair technicians that is important for many businesses. And the list goes on.
- mrsteveman1, on 05/09/2008, -1/+3oooh snap
- mrsteveman1, on 05/09/2008, -2/+4is there any other kind?
- 8270369, on 05/09/2008, -0/+1The comments at the end of that article were remarkably ... well, how do I say it nicely ... stupid. Ignorant. Ill-informed. Cringe-worthy. But worded in such a way as to imply the comment writers thought they knew what they were talking about. Scary. These people vote.
- vypergts, on 05/09/2008, -0/+1That's why they are moving to LTE.
- _skin_, on 05/09/2008, -1/+2I wish we had Vodafone! ***** AT&T!
- clclark33, on 05/12/2008, -0/+1I'm in NW Georgia and the coverage is pretty much the same for both, but you get pockets where one is spotty and the other is great and vice versa.
- VeritasAequitas, on 05/09/2008, -2/+3My iPhone works great, granted it is on the T-Mobile Network :) I have dropped a few calls but that's cause I live in BFE an hour outside of the metro area and most people drop calls out there. When I'm at work in the suburbs it works just fine.
- skitle007, on 05/09/2008, -1/+2My local carrier is CDMA. Their coverage is very good, and I have no issues, except with their customer service. I would just like the option to have an iPhone.
- vypergts, on 05/09/2008, -1/+2The voyager runs a proprietary LG/VZW OS not WinMo. It's not considered a pda/smartphone even by Verizon. I have it and you can't even compare it to something like an iPhone because it's really just a music/mediaFLO phone with a touchscreen.
- IphtashuFitz, on 05/09/2008, -0/+1GSM is rapidly becoming more popular in the USA. The GSM coverage map at http://www.coveragemaps.com/gsmposter_americas.htm shows that GSM covers as much, if not more, than what Sprint shows on http://coverage.sprintpcs.com/IMPACT.jsp . If you want an iPhone so much you'll just have to switch carriers or wait until Sprint jumps on the bandwagon and offers GSM support. Steve Jobs isn't going to build a CDMA one just to please people like you.
- InsaneMachine, on 05/09/2008, -0/+1what if I use cat-7 :-O
trappleton used ethernet correctly - bdbr, on 05/09/2008, -0/+1Merely having a presence in corporations and having a significant presence are two different things. A lot of it just seems to be "allowing" the use of Macs, and maybe providing some minimal best-effort technical assistance.
- mrsteveman1, on 05/09/2008, -0/+1what about profit?
- phogasmic, on 05/09/2008, -2/+2Apple released the IPOD and OSX during the last turn.
- DanBoodro, on 05/09/2008, -2/+2Cat-5/6*
- anillop, on 05/09/2008, -2/+2People like you don't do anything significant to write about.
- batmanz, on 05/09/2008, -2/+2Good lord, why is everyone on Digg always fapping to apple?
- vypergts, on 05/09/2008, -1/+1Something IS wrong when we are in the middle of an economic downturn and yet people feel they can justify $400-500 on a cell phone they will probably lose at some point...
- tao52nyc, on 05/09/2008, -1/+0Who wants to read about people like YOU? There are 5 billion others out there just like you.
- VeritasAequitas, on 05/09/2008, -2/+1Step one; verify you are with a GSM carrier if yes go to step three
Step two; switch to GSM carrier other than at&t
Step three; unlock and jailbreak iPhone
Step four; enjoy :) - Dedpoet, on 05/09/2008, -1/+0My company also does business in East Tennessee and we're also on Verizon. Service is good, even as you get into the mountains. If you travel overseas, get a Motorola Z6c, Verizon's current non-smart global phone offering. It comes with a SIM card and you can switch it between CDMA and GSM modes. You're still out of luck in Japan but it works great in almost all of Europe. It's a nice slider phone with good features (hooray tactile keypad lock switch!) and is surprisingly inexpensive. The older a840's they were pushing before this were junk in every way, but these are nice.
- ColorBlind, on 05/09/2008, -3/+2What state do you live in? I'm in east Tennessee and verizon has a much more reliable network throughout this region.
The biggest down fall of verizon is the lack of world wide access. Anytime i go over sees I dont even take my phone with me. - macmangb, on 05/09/2008, -3/+1Let's all watch Nokia's stock price take a dive now :)
- BeforeSputnik, on 05/09/2008, -4/+1When DOESN'T Apple buck the trend?
- drewbles, on 05/09/2008, -6/+3Wasn't it Vodafone that announced the deal? Burried as innacurate.
