- mojojeetsoo, on 02/10/2008, -10/+58I have to call shenanigans on this. If i don't know what the idea is, why should i even be interested at this stage, if this is some sort of software (which from all the need for programmers it sounds like it is) then i call this vaporware at this point. Buried for just hype (at this stage anyway)
- tones1, on 02/10/2008, -4/+49What's the idea?
- ToMZiLLA, on 02/10/2008, -8/+48buried for pissing me off
- teknikk7, on 02/10/2008, -3/+40How many diggs did he buy here? It sounds like all these comments are from people he knows.
- androo002345, on 02/10/2008, -4/+37Seriously, what is his idea. Nobody seems to answer. What is it?!
- bxblox, on 02/10/2008, -4/+28Cant digg it for the simple fact that I dont know what it is.
- lcarsdeveloper, on 02/10/2008, -2/+23This entire article and comments thread tells us nothing, which is unfair to the people who haven't been following the story. I started searching on Google for some more info, but unfortunately every single search result is just hype about how many emails the guy is getting.
To repeat several people above me...what's the idea? - gameforge, on 02/10/2008, -2/+17These "fluffy" comments are the absolute worst. Complete artificial butt-kissing.
This little brat's "idea" is to game Digg over and over again Duke Nukem Forever style. He ***** pwns Digg, that's for sure... apparently there's some money finally floating around, since this was as you point out clearly a bought and paid for submission.
(sigh) but I'll go ahead and bury this for the correct reason... same reason I buried it the last time it showed up however many months ago: because he HASN'T DONE ANYTHING YET.
This should be a Digg submission no sooner than the day he comes out with the idea and starts waiving Google's money around.
::flips off all of these artificial marketroid goons writing these worthless comments:: - crakbot, on 02/10/2008, -3/+18Sounds like more useless crap all you eggheads will say is the next "killer app" or "facebook killa" even though nobody outside of this circle will ever use or care about it.
- jessetessej, on 02/10/2008, -1/+14yea yea yea, string us along. every chapter movie just goes over the same thing the previous one talked about with the same "so here is the plan..." "so here is the idea..." You did a good job at getting exposure but do something soon before we get bored.
- groovechamp30, on 02/10/2008, -2/+15Whats the idea?
- chrismcelligott, on 02/10/2008, -2/+14I’d wager it’s some variety of walking clock.
- hackiavelli, on 02/10/2008, -4/+14Is this Segway 2.0?
- speedy11309, on 02/10/2008, -12/+22ive been following this story ever since it first hit here on digg. i've talked to aaron myself and hes a really cool guy and the idea is really good. i hope his idea gets picked up because i know its been a lot of hard work for them and its a really good idea and implementation. good luck guys!!!
- zydeco, on 02/10/2008, -0/+8I don't get it either. If the idea is that great, and the guy has this much determination and brains, why not do it yourself? Is there something he needs at Google or Yahoo to make it fly? This looks more like marketing hype than a guy following a dream.
- terminal157, on 02/10/2008, -1/+8Odd how many people posting here claim to know him personally.
- AlienMushroom, on 02/21/2008, -5/+12No, Google can't. Your hosting just died.
- Gryph1, on 02/10/2008, -4/+11No one can hear him thanks to.... THE DIGG EFFECT!
- moebis, on 02/10/2008, -2/+9Buried as spam.
- ryanhayn, on 02/10/2008, -2/+9I bet his idea sucks...that's why he won't tell anyone about it.
"sharing ideas...releasing ideas". Isn't that the same thing? - darkheartlor, on 02/10/2008, -1/+8What is this guy talking about? I honestly dont care how it works out for him. He sounds like a tool. What's with the stupid music in the background? Someone has their head firmly planted in their ass. If I worked security at Google, I'd throw him out. He better have an amazing idea, cause that personality isnt going to get him anywhere.
- iamnotrich, on 02/10/2008, -1/+7lamest way to spam digg
- captfallout, on 02/10/2008, -1/+7A year of hyping an idea from someone with minimal technical knowledge and no business experience ensures disappointment.
Google and Yahoo took interest in him solely because he was passionate and had a decent internet following, not because they thought he might actually have a good idea. Want to know why Amazon and Microsoft haven't offered him an open door? They know that an excited recent grad that is unwilling to even give vague hints as to his amazing breakthrough is all smoke and mirrors. - YonicSouth, on 02/10/2008, -0/+5The first rule of CanGoogleHearMe is you do not talk about CanGoogleHearMe.
- inactive, on 02/10/2008, -0/+4dugg it for the fact that someone has enough guts to knock on the door of biggest search engine company in the world and make them listen to him/her. I hope that the idea will be a good one.
- HairBear, on 02/10/2008, -2/+6So what's this guys big idea? Using Digg as a marketing tool? He certainly seems popular with people who joined Digg in the last few days!
- bioskope, on 02/10/2008, -0/+3then bury the ***** out of it, like I did
- richardiscool, on 02/10/2008, -3/+6NOT IRONY
- torlanco, on 02/10/2008, -0/+3Steorn!
This guy has an annoying Mark Zuckenberg look. Spit it out, don't waste our time. - ADVIZR, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2You have every right to be, and should be, proud of your son.
I want to add a dose of helpful advice: never take negativity on the web too seriously. Anyone can say anything. It's an interesting story and certainly inspiring to some people. However, the vast majority of people aren't interested if there's no substance (action > words, for web sites). One can only hear about something for so long before it turns from inspiring to annoying. Some here are agitated by this making the front page, despite (still) not knowing what the idea is. Just know that idiotic comments are simply a byproduct of life online (see: YouTube comments). It's better not to respond to them, except to correct false information.
Anyway, with that said, I think you guys have played your cards right. You've gotten major amounts of attention, and a lot of people are (still) curious. Even if the idea doesn't live up to people's imaginations (it undoubtedly won't), you're at least in much a better position than most people start out with. An idea doesn't have to be great in everyone's eyes: just great in the eyes of enough people to have a viable market.
Good luck. ;) - tobias1482, on 02/10/2008, -2/+4Why?
- bxblox, on 02/10/2008, -3/+5You must be porn
- richierichsis, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2I've been surprised by the negativity as well. What happened to the shared excitement of trying a new paradigm, to open a frontier that has never been tried before? I'm in the cheering section as well because if it succeeds, we're all going to gain from this enterprise.
- mcottier, on 02/10/2008, -0/+2You can't really blame him for not sharing his idea, than anyone with the resources could create it and get a head start on him. That is if the idea is good or not.
- gameforge, on 02/10/2008, -2/+4Flavor flav?
- RyeBrye, on 02/10/2008, -0/+2A good idea can get angel funding. Angel funding can sustain development long enough to get VC funding (if needed). From VC funding, you can continue to foster the idea to the level where it will be worthwhile and you can either get bought out or go public... and get rich for turning a good idea (which is worth very little) into a successful company (which is worth a great deal)
This person is trying to skip the first several steps and jump right to the final step. That's fine, but the problem is - an idea isn't worth all that much. If he truly had a great idea, he should go through the standard process of proving his idea is great (i.e. the angel funding -> VC route)...
The market will prove if his idea is good or not.
My suspicion is that someone who is guarding a single idea so carefully is probably not that great at coming up with ideas, and that the one idea that he does have is probably not that great.
In a business, ideas are the EASY part... it's the actual work that's the hard part. - speedy11309, on 02/10/2008, -3/+5sorry, no one in the beta program can tell what the idea is until aaron does. we all had to sign non disclosure agreements.
- inactive, on 02/10/2008, -0/+2If it walks like a Segway and talks like Steorn, it's probably BS.
- inactive, on 02/10/2008, -1/+3Wait.. this guys idea was Duke Nukem Forever? :o
- Ireland, on 02/10/2008, -0/+1It's the everlasting gobstopper!
- knobtwiddler, on 02/10/2008, -0/+1i don't. that video was annoying as hell. i had to turn it off because he annoyed me so bad i don't care what his idea was and i suspect he was forcibly thrown out of the lobby.
- inactive, on 02/10/2008, -0/+1If you cannot pitch your idea in a single sentence and also get INTEREST in it from that, chances are it is not a very good idea.
- knobtwiddler, on 02/10/2008, -0/+1I talked to the guy, his idea is to start something called "google cats" its like pictures of all cats, all the time. yeah DUDE. kind of like icanhascheezburger.com except wiht no captions. just cats. you can google up some cat pictures any time you want.
- liquidpele, on 02/10/2008, -4/+5The idea is to get website advertising by saying you have a secret awesome idea on digg so people will visit your site. Seriously, getting this on Digg is a marketing ploy, how the hell is this a story if we don't even know what the idea is? Yea, I want to sit around and discuss something that I know nothing about. Buried.
- Journey2, on 02/10/2008, -0/+1this sounds interesting and I would like to know more. Nice work so far.
- film42, on 02/10/2008, -1/+2What is Server Recourses, Billions of Users, and the name "Google"
- fullphaser, on 02/10/2008, -1/+2I only digg hopes and dreams if I have a basic concept of what they are.
- knobtwiddler, on 02/10/2008, -0/+1flippin SPAMMERS!!!!
- knobtwiddler, on 02/10/2008, -0/+1i hate this submission
- joshjoneswas, on 02/11/2008, -0/+1I'd wager its some type of revolutionary transportation device that is going to take the world by storm one gyro at a time. Except this time its not good enough to be on Good Morning America.
