- dankoleary, on 10/12/2007, -12/+85Honestly, I love Google. If Google was a woman, I'd marry her. If Google was a cake, it would be chocolate and taste delicious.
- Earthacis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+62If google was a cake it would be only partially coated with icing. Cause it would still be in beta.
- ArthurSucks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+44It would have a hole in it.
- jblade, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33Prank Calls just rose to a whole new level.
- CompWhiz2010, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18This guy has A LOT of spam
- schurkenstadt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15If google was a drug it would be good for your health and make you feel good, too. And probably be as addicting as crack.
- noodlez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"but hopefully soon the feature will be available to users who don't have the instant messenger installed."
not likely, since its just making a request to google talk to open up a call with that person who also has google talk. making that work without any secondary program is not gonna happen anytime soon. - Trixrox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8So this is pretty neat, but what I find more intresting is Google does this without Active X plugins or Firefox extentions, it must all be done through google's jabber server, how handy! If only google talk had conferencing and Free call out ;)
- chad78, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I love how they blurred out a ton of stuff - but left two email addresses very big and very readable, complete with first and last name in one case.
- rickbauls, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I know someone that signed up for as much garbage possible, just to see if he could fill the two gigs. He gave up, and started a new account.
- CBanga, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Download Firefox?
- M4v3R, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It's possible with flash, no problem.
- willcode4beer, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Can you imagine the fanatism if google and apple were to merge......
- centinall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6first step in having "gtalk calling links" within webpages. what for you ask? well, when you see something for sale on gbase, or click on an adsense link, they'll be a gtalk link to their call center or gtalk account.
- championchap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5yeah, i was thinking the same thing.. it could be possible though i guess.
and if they ever do pull it off? well.. then ill be more than slightly impressed - iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7http://m-w.com/dictionary/gay

Definition 5 it is! - gaurav4u99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Technically its not a big deal. just linking the two appllications(gmail/google talk). Tomorrow you can have google calendar popping up in google talk.
Yeah the challenge would be to have just a web based/browser based gmail voip service. - Mejogid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm pretty sure this would only be possible with flash or some other plugin installed - web browsers simply don't support mics/real time audio output. However, an invisible flash applet could be used for that functionality.
- kimos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6How exactly was it "gay"?

The fact that they use java on the server side does not allow them access to hardware on the client side that is not available to javascript. Even with Java, client side is limited to scripting and file storage in cookies. Server side can do much more and push downloads to the client, but cannot do any sort of live audio/video because the client doesn't support it. - chubbymidget, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Millions of people are now screaming at the monitor. "Can you hear me, Are you there.."
- FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4VoIP in your browser............. ME likey!
- pierre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2they just updated google cal to work with safari so they are aware of safari and want to include it. all in due time...
- frederic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is this really new? When the desktop client is running, you can already see a Call button when you mouse over your Quick Contacts.
- Makir, on 10/12/2007, -8/+10Fun part : Google means cake in Yiddish :)
- iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You know, as Mac users would say "get a Mac" I now say "get a PC" but since a Mac technically is a PC it really doesn't fit, but that's a totally different argument so, I agree with the above response, get FIREFOX for your Mac.
- andyzweb, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6you think thats a lot of spam, at one point i posted this to digg
http://digg.com/tech_news/He_has_More_Spam_Than_You_screenshot - flea2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Dear Google,
Please add the ability to conference call people in my contacts. That will eliminate my need to use skype.
Thank you - spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Prank Calls just rose to a whole new level."
Sorry, the apex of prank calls is Skype, which allows North Americans to call each other for free until the end of the year with SkypeOut.
Tell the White House I say hi! I have a couple of dozen times! - ubermutt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You can do this very easily with Flash Media Server 2 and it will work on every computer with Flash Player 6 and better. Same goes for live web cams.
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaserver/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2im ready to see googles im become more popular , with call functions, and beat out yahoo or msn, i would rather use google because its tied to my gmail
- punkrock4life, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1google, you have no excuse for not making feature rich mac and unix versions of gtalk. get to work asap!
- stoffe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No thanks: non-free, DRM-promoting platform needed to activate.
- szembek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This has been in google talk for quite a while now.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very cool, can't wait!
- gd007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1gmail rocks!
- sachis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's the only way to make the google talk stand out from the other messenger crowd. Good that google doesn't give up, seeing the no take- off of the Google Talk!!!
- foo52, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Atleast the story wasn''t interupted by them.
- inactive, on 12/31/2008, -0/+0Everyone seems to disagree with you, but seriously chocolate is pretty gross. You guys should only digg that down if you actually enjoy dark chocolate. Milk chocolate is just sugar and milk with a little chocolate in there. Milk chocolate isn't what chocolate tastes like, much like drinking coffee that isn't black is not at all what coffee tastes like. Grow up and stop adding ***** to all your food guys!
- devoinregress, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Adium for VoIP anyone?
- MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4@willcode4beer:
Google and Apple will never merge. Unlike Apple, Google realizes that all the money's in the software business, there's no money in the hardware business (it's better to be Microsoft than be Gateway), and they certainly wouldn't want Apple screwing up their bottom line.
If Google wanted to get in to the OS business, they'd make their own. Like Apple, they'd take an existing code base (Linux, obviously), and add their own proprietary wrapper (i.e. - they'd extend WINE to the point that you could run 90% of Windows apps natively, and make the all the Linux underpinnings unobtrusive.) It would take them 3-years to get out of beta, but that wouldn't matter. They have 15% marketshare in a matter of days.
They will probably never do any of that either, because, like Apple, the OS market in general a sinking ship compared to Google's current business model. They don't care what OS you run, just as long as all you do with it is connect to the internet and use their services. - dextroz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1These are all fringe benefits - nothing great and worth the 9 months of developments for a commercial company since gtalk was first launched.
Pipe down fanboys!
/watches myself get modded down - biddessa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks! But I can't see any graphics in IE7 or FF.
- lar3ry, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Please explain how that link is helpful. The chart clearly states that the only three clients that work on OS X do not support "Voice calls to other Google Talk users," so gallagb's point is still valid.
- gallagb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2yea cool if ur on a PC - i'm there -- but.. i'm on a mac- so of course this doesn't work
- friaGeek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This feature was tested few days ago. I was first surprise to see the Call button while using GMail.
- howiloved, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I'd like if it Google supported Safari more. How about us mac users using gmail chat? Huh what about that?
