lol I was going to say orange > apple but I don't want to fight with an army of mac's fan boys - rm999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I like to see this emphasis on power efficiency over speed. For several years now CPUs have been overpowered (the ONLY times I hit 100% CPU are playing games and running Matlab - something I only do 10% of the time and that 80% of the market never does). Computers have been bottlenecked by ram size, harddrive speed, GPU, and bus speeds for years now. Much more important to me than CPU speed are power usage, fan noise, and heat generation (during the middle of the summer).

What are you talking about? I'm typing this comment on an AMD-powered laptop and don't hear a peep besides the optical drive which I barely use. Even when I purchased this laptop, I felt all the laptops in the showcase (AMD and Intel) while they were powered on and the AMDs most definitely emitted the least amount of heat. - ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Adidas > Nike

My next one is a Merom for better power control. AMD own the racks in the server room and workstations but on the laptops they lost the plot. Seriously this is the first non AMD machine I will buy in 8 years. I think its time to get a 3rd major player in the x8x market to stop this pissing contest, 2 major players are not enough for competitive innovation.
Its the same in the gfx chip market, 2 major players. My next laptop will have over 100 Watts in a GPU!! yet my CPU only takes a fraction of that now, when will GPU's go multi core and better power control.
