Due back Sunday? Wow.
I hope they are all OK. - eatasandwich, on 10/12/2007, -3/+94I live in Portland, OR and traveled down from Seattle on Monday. The weather was bad enough then and road conditions have been treacherous ever since. The roads were REALLY icey. The sensible people didn't go to work on Tuesday. Traffic on I5 was moving at 18mph for hours near Seattle.
I hope he's okay. It is quite likely he's waiting out the weather in a hotel somewhere. - Hegemony, on 10/12/2007, -7/+60@coddoc
What?! You sir, are a moron.
Back on topic. I've watched a lot of his segments and read his articles on cnet. I hope they turn up. - cal0140, on 10/12/2007, -16/+180@coddoc
"One less Asian and his ugly half-breeds we have to worry about infesting our country."
Please don't make such an ignorant and moronic comment then lump the rest of us in by saying "our" country. - Ivers, on 10/12/2007, -9/+86coddoc... shut up. *****.

I hate you. - KingAR_II, on 10/12/2007, -5/+61@coddoc... I understand you have the right to free speech, but if it were up to me a comment like that would get you banned from digg - grow up!!
... I wish all the best for the Kim family. - pushmouse, on 10/12/2007, -6/+73Can we all mass-block coddoc? Ban his ass.
- charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -4/+34Coddoc, you need to grow up a lot. I would say the same about you, but I don't wish you any harm. What's wrong with this world is too many people like you hating other people, whether they be Asians, Republicans, Democrats, Muslims, etc... We all need to stop worrying so much about other people and concentrate on making ourselves better.
Back on topic, this is terrible news. I'm hoping and praying he's okay. I loved him on TechTV. - amowls, on 10/12/2007, -11/+29@coddoc

"coddoc is the only person that I have blocked on digg."
Why block when I can burry on other stories?
If everyone blocked him he will have a "+1" for his comment. - scott1, on 10/12/2007, -24/+2deleted dupe
- dkm201, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17If you look at coddoc's other comment's they're all trolling too, no matter the topic. He's obviously just trying to get a rise...
- waahooo, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3coddoc, why? I am completely baffled by your post. I just don't understand.
- ringo380, on 10/12/2007, -23/+11I'm digging down every single person who actually took the time to make a reply to coddoc. Do you not realize that a post like that is just for the attention, which is now being given to him? Digg him down to oblivion, block him, and be done with it.
I'd usually avoid even posting something like this, but after 20 other replies, people obviously haven't figured it out yet. Digg me down as well, so these posts can be over with and ignored. - scott1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+108Coddoc got himself banned

I never blocked anyone on my blocked list.
Is it that if enough people block others, like Coddoc, who is blocked in my list, he is blocked from my list too?
COO! Ostracized outta the community! - Cl1mh4224rd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12"I hope he's okay. It is quite likely he's waiting out the weather in a hotel somewhere."
If that were the case you'd think he'd at least make a call. I can't help but be pessimistic at this point... :-/ - akira117, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Wow this is weird.... I love that guy.. He was one of my favorites in the Techtv days.
Hope everything is alright. - cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14next time someone says something untoward, PLEASE don't "quote" thre bastard. let him get banned and have his comment dissappear. I hope James and his family is ok.

@ Neolit
you have officially lost all credibility.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law - skyeflye, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It's kinda "funny" for me to read the above responses to the @Neolit and @coddoc trolls, because I never actually saw the trolls' original, offensive messages...because I had apparently already blocked those users weeks ago. Preparation FTW!
Seriously though, this story is pretty upsetting. Their extended family, and coworkers must be sick with worry right now. I sure hope it turns out to be nothing serious. - umrgregg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You didn't block them, they've been banned. Well, coddoc at least.
- stockjones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I really hope hes alright. Hes one of the few editors at C-NET that I like. And that coddoc is an idiot.
- swiftyzz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Best wishes to James and his family and their safe return home.
- ifoundgodot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree with all the hope that his family is OK, but what kind of pisses me off is that absolutely no one would care if this guy was not a great reviewer or on TV. This kind of stuff happens all the time, and its tragic, but no one cares unless its a celebrity or something.
Just something that kind of bothers me.
Wasn't sure which post to reply to so I figured I'd just do it at the top. - wjanoch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1May the Lord watch over them where ever they are.

It states they're never without their phones/PDAs which means they have no power or devices for some reason and there's the really bad winter storm coming across the country... To be honest it truly scares me for someone to just disappear now a days, let a lone a whole family. I hope they're safe. :-

- dmitriyvoz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0The author has mentioned very much a vital topic today. It seems to me that the problematics of this clause enables to reflect and draw conclusions. You can as to look sites in Russian which mention this theme: http://www.rolid.org http://www.se-ua.com

- mrblack298, on 10/12/2007, -14/+58I hope they're alright. Stupid bitches on Engadget were already making bad jokes about them. I suspect Digg users to follow suit. If anyone does, I will personally strangle them with their own intestines.
- d3vious, on 10/12/2007, -15/+56Digg the reply above me DOWN. This is nothing to joke about! James Kim is an asset to the tech community..
- rebz, on 10/12/2007, -130/+22i dont know whats worse, the fact that i knew that comment was going to come, the fact that it was already dugg down and hidden before i clicked on it, or how hard i laughed after i read it.
awful.
but hilarious. - lazydrumhead, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21@d3vious...
good point, but he's a person, too. - warnipples, on 10/12/2007, -24/+4honestly talking about strangling people with there own intestines on this board is every bit as inappropriate as any joke some duchebag could make.
- d3vious, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3@lazydrumhead: Yeah, I should have mentioned that in my post. He is a person and has a family (his daughters are absolutely adorable!), and I apologize I didn't put that first. Anyways, let's hope nothing bad has happened. We can only hope for the best.

As we understand it, last weekend James, his wife Kati (above right), and his very young girls Penelope (left) and Sabine (baby), drove from their home in the SF Bay Area to Seattle. They were expected back some time Sunday, but were last heard from Saturday in or between Gold Beach or Portland, Oregon. - d3vious, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Oh my god. I wish nothing but the best to him and his family and I hope this ends in a positive manner. Oh dear.. this is so sad :(
- whalesalad, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Yeah, for sure. He was always so nice and happy, loved to review DVD players and HD tv's all the time. I really remember the one about SACD's and HD Audio or somethin...
I really do hope he is ok, to be honest in my opinion simply hearing that James and his family are missing is harder to swallow than Steve Irwin dying from that sting... this is sad news. - johntsien, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@uscfan - I agree - in many ways, this IS sadder than Steve Irwin because when Irwin was lost, it was just one person. Also, Steve Irwin was engaged in a dangerous jobs where he knew the risks. When a whole family goes missing, it seems so much worse. These were people who were just trying to get home. I hope they are found safe, soon.

- inboxnews, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Shocking news. I hope they will be found soon.
- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Wow. I really hope that this is just a series of unfortunate events, like car breaking down, cell phone losing charge, etc so they are just out of touch. It's been 4 days, though, so I'm afraid it's worse than that...

- MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -25/+5I wasn't joking...
- miggie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1All of you that live in that area are the police searching the sides of the highway for his car? Can any of you volunteer for the search? Mostly likely what happen is that he hit a patch of ice and the car went off the road. They could still be alive but just down an embankment.
- kavaliro, on 10/12/2007, -110/+10So the question is: which one of Bush's secret nazi torture camps did they get shipped to? We'll never know because they won't be allowed habeas corpus.
Even if it's not true, it could be. We'll never know until they show up.- greekgoat91, on 10/12/2007, -6/+25this isn't anything to joke about
- kavaliro, on 10/12/2007, -66/+10Who's joking? Frankly, it's as real and likely a possibility as any other.
- scott1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Don't be stupid. He obviously hasn't been sent to a "CIA secret prison" you have no proof that he has been sent even if they are really. Your just starting a political discussion(we can't afford to get politicians involed!)
- yiluncn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10omg, this is shocking. O_O
prayers to his family.- scott1, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2I don't think your being sarcastic so I dugg your comment.
- drunkjack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Jeez. I remember him from his bits on Screen Savers. Hope this turns out well.
- AlanJV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I remember seeing him on tech tv a few times. I really hope that he and his family are ok and only lost or something.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Wow, this is really shocking and obviously unexpected.
I hope that wires just got crossed and they decided to take an extended vacation or something, and I just hope that it's a case of miscommunication. James was always great on TechTV, and I hope he's fine - dtemp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6My guess it is the bad weather. Although, things have been clearing up over there far as I know. Hopefully, they are just stuck in a small town. Either way, I hope they are all OK.
- prh99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here is hoping for their safe return. I hope the reason for their disappearance turns out to be nothing serious. Cute kids.
- RobototoboR, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26That's so sad, the little girl is so cute. I hope they turn out okay.

Thanks. - d3vious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7James Kim is the senior editor of digital audio on CNET, so he is in a lot of the video reviews. Go to a review page of an MP3 Player on CNET and he will probably be in the video. I'd link to one, but The only one I've seen him in so far is for the Zune, and I feel that by posting a link to the Zune review/video review it'd create discussion that's not needed here. Just letting you guys know how you can see this guy.

- scott1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5He's respected within the tech news community, which digg is apart of.
- whalesalad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Why do people honestly have to take out their anger from having a worthless and ***** life here on the digg comment section? Just because you have a sad and worthless life you don't need to come trolling around stomping all over everything, especially serious news like this. I never met James, along with probably 99% of the rest of the diggers here, but most of us all saw him on Tv (I pretty much grew up watching him on ZDTV->techtv->G4[ugh]) and came to really love him, hes a cool dude.
So get the ***** out.

- Obsydian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I suppose all you can do is keep the number handy and an eye open. I'm personally hoping for the best. My Thoughts are with them and the Kim family. unless he decided to take his family on a trip away from city life, and wants to avoid communication from the outside world, then i'm guessing something has gone seriously wrong.- dakboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7My thoughts as well. If, like you say, they just wanted to take a trip away from the city, he should have made someone aware of their plans.

- d3vious, on 10/12/2007, -44/+6I agreed with you until you had to bring the Zune and Wii into this. When I say I agreed, I think it is the sad truth that they have gone missing for four days, and the unfortunate has probably happened. But you had to bring in the Zune and Wii.

- Emanji, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3omfg i can't believe this, I hope they're all ok. I've been watching Cnet TV for a while now and James is a very VERY cool guy.
- theantidote, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I've watched James since ZDTV/TechTV and this is a real shame. I sincerely hope he and his family are okay.
- Macc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19What the hell is wrong with you people? It doesn't matter if you like his reviews of mp3 players, thats completely insignificant when a man and his whole family are missing. Grow up and have some compassion.
- Litespeed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It's awful when something really bad happens to adults, but it always seems 10x worse when their kids are involved too.
- Russell102, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7For now ill hope that he just got side tracted and cell phones batteries just died
- bigvics, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I hope hes ok, but from stories ive heard about traveling long distances up and down the west coast, their car is probably lying upsidedown in a drainage ditch along a highway or road especially since the weather was pretty bad during the week they traveled and the guy and his wife obviously have cell phones.
- Slipdisc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Our prayers go out to you, Kim family.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6We have had dangerous weather in the Pacific Northwest for the past few days. It is very possible that his car swerved when he hit an ice patch (hope not) but more likely, he got stuck in frozen traffic and might still be in his car with his cellphone battery dead.
My brother got stuck in one of those traffic squalls and it took him 6 hours to go 15 miles.- lukaso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4We're talking about 4 days not 6 hours here, I think if there was a 6 day traffic jam we'd know about it. I too am praying for his/family's safety.
- eltoroenojado, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope everyhting is ok and that this is all just a big mixup. I hope for the best.
