New to the Inter-web? - p2pwn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+41Reminds me of someone's attempt to ship negative weight (helium balloon)
- cuoops, on 10/12/2007, -21/+56yuck, a toolbar
- shashark, on 10/12/2007, -5/+37Here's the screenshot: http://shashark.wordpress.com/files/2007/02/lol1.JPG
- jotux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29You mean all these years I thought I was getting ripped off i was actually saving negative money!? Now I don't feel so bad.
- habitue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27""-37%" really just means here -(37% of the price)..."
No, you'll see that the "original price" was $99 and "today's price" is $137.45. It really is a -37% discount. - devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25Don't get excited, that's just negative good you're feeling now.
- iamdravenman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22It's an amazing 3.5 RPM, too! I'm all over that!
- treelovinhippie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20"Is it genuine genuis or real sloppy system design flaw ?"
Or a cleverly evil marketing scheme to fool unsuspecting Diggers. - Tyrel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Kind of a side-note... I am intrigued by the fact that Overstock says the list price is $99.99, yet Newegg says the list price is $79.99. What exactly is the list price? I always thought it was the price the manufacturer recommended... yet you can buy it from Western Digital's web site for $86.99. Of course, Newegg sells it below the list price they show (sells for $74.99), and Overstock sells higher than the list price they show, which is higher than Newegg's list price in the first place...
meh. - jus1haz2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16You happen to have a link? Seems like an interesting story.
- joshua5, on 10/12/2007, -8/+24at least its firefox
- crlarkin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15It is pr0n, the idea is to disguise your search for porn.
- jus1haz2, on 10/12/2007, -9/+21Seems like a deal, I'll take 3!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I tnever happened. It is an urban legend. At least no one ever actually went through with it to the point of going to the post office with it. Any box big enough to hold a helium balloon is going to weight more than the helium takes away
- jaxxon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Buy now and SAVE! The more you buy, the MORE YOU SAVE!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17so when someone posts a screenshot to digg, the first thing you guys do is scrutinize his computer and OS? i'll be sure that next time i post a screenshot to digg, i post only a crop of the browsing area so you guys actually look at my screenshot's information instead of my computer configuration.
okay, while we're at it, he sucks for using windows. - devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Hmm, that's funny, because I thought it was a perfectly decent way to spend 10 seconds.
- iwillrefuse, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16You know, "Saving Negative 37%" still SOUNDS like a great deal.
Did somebody give up their day job of being an ARMY recruiter? - offput, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13So is Everybody Loves Raymond, but you learn to deal with it.
- Crossmenjeff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I bet there's some good stuff on the Hard drive to make it worth more.
- kodek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9If the price was lower, they would just cancel your order, but since the price is higher, and you agreed to buy it from them, they'll just shut up and charge you the extra 37%
- devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10The same reason anything gets to the front page - people think it's funny or interesting.
- Mardala, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Their new motto: "Your Loss My Gain!"
- etnu, on 10/12/2007, -8/+16The Google Toolbar (and the Yahoo toolbar, for that matter) is stupid because it adds an extra search box where it isn't needed.
My home page has a google search box on it, I have google search in the chrome, and typing something that doesn't look like a website into firefox's address bar yields google search results.
Sorry, why would I want *another* search box? So I can check a site's page rank? Like anyone other than SEOs actually gives a *****. - CoreOverride, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I think your tin-foil hat is on a bit too tight...
- scbysnx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6brings new meaning to "we're going to go broke on the money you save"
- Tiak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Yes, we are the shashark hive mind, we shall be your demise!
- OAKsider, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Great drive, picked one up for ~$95 last Summer and ~$65 last Christmas.
Overstock "retail" says $100, sale is $137! Plus shipping!! In stock!!! (Really?)
ZipZoomFly and Buy.com+GCO FTW. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5But shipping is only $1!

http://www.overstock.com/?page=proframe&prod_id=2082509 - EBFoxbat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"pr0n" works fine, but the comment still sucked.
- crumbelievable, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wait a sec, you're telling me that I can save -37%? What are you an idiot? I'LL TAKE IT!
- darookee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Reminds me of a local pizza dude's ad 'pay three, get two'...
- mick411, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I tried to add -1 to my cart but it ended up empty.
- pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4if it's a pricing error, will they still charge you for the higher price?
- monkeyrun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4sweet I can't believe I can pay more.
- enjoypaint, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Im pretty sure that they tried to ship the helium ballon on mythbusters before. I swear that was an episode.
- reventlov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Judging by the traffic you are directing to their site, I would say it's genius.*
* - okay, to qualify it would have to be an intentional act - Tiak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5It's a design flaw in that they still claim that you're saving when their listed price is over the price they're comparing you to... I mean one would think you'd want to design it such that if you're overcharging, that option doesn't display at all. Still showing people that the difference in price between you and competitors, and telling them yours is that much higher wasn't the goal of their system and as such is a flaw...
The real question is, who exactly had the foresight to make the "You save" number of $s an absolute value?... I can't think of any reason it would happen automaticly with the subtraction, so are they trying to deceive people?... - ifonly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"At least no one ever actually went through with it to the point of going to the post office with it. " you are wrong, they tried it on Brainiac!
- richardiscool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah, they tried this on Brainiac, but in the end the helium cost more than the saving made on postage.
- Eisen4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Strange how the are sold out...
- ingxia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3it would be better if it cost negative
- kodek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Then you wonder why the company is called OverStock...
@cds0528:
Two negatives make a positive. (Save + -37%)
They do: price - (-37%) - johnnyrocket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Whoa! What a deal!

"The Google Toolbar (and the Yahoo toolbar, for that matter) is stupid because it adds an extra search box where it isn't needed.
My home page has a google search box on it"
Well pardon the fsck out of anyone who doesn't use your home page.
", I have google search in the chrome, and typing something that doesn't look like a website into firefox's address bar yields google search results."
Okay, dumbass, how does typing something into Firefox's address bar return pictures, videos, or prices -- all items available with one click from the Google toolbar.
"Sorry, why would I want *another* search box?"
So that you could search for videos, images, prices, news, postings from Usenet newsgroups, addresses from Google Earth, or even use Google Desktop with one click. So that you could use the auto-fill feature to complete forms that require your name, address, phone number, street address, city, state, e-mail address, etc. So that you could highlight any search term on the page where it's found. So that you could use spell-check -- also a one-click option from the Google bar. Apparently, you're sophistication level is more like that of an AOL user since you think that all searches should be text on web pages. - laskuh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i wonder if we can get a store to price match this...
