- mikson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i watched on discovery channel once that actually cryptex is invention of Dan brown it doesn't even do what it suppose to after the container with vinegar breaks it doesn't destroy papyrus it just makes it wet.
But it's a great idea and looks cool to :D - paperpig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can download and print out your own paper cryptex here:
http://www.flying-pig.co.uk/pagesv/combination.html - kalisphoenix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm selling "SuperCryptexes" with a mercury switch that sets off a shrapnel grenade. $2499 + whatever Applecare costs. And if you can tell me the significance of that number, then I'll pack the SuperCryptex a little more cautiously.
- nicholasjon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For Christmas my folks got me a cryptex from this place: http://www.encryptagifts.com/index.htm -- they're less expensive, but they don't have the "vial of disintegrating fluid" either. I do highly recommend them as gifts, I had a blast figuring out all the "keys" to opening mine.
- SamL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you look carefully at the pictures of the nested codex, the end cap is inscribed "Amy Pascal" - Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Pictures Group. Perhaps a (very nice) thank you gift to the boss for supporting Davinci Code?
- nilclop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks like the price range for these things are anywhere from $375 - $1065. A bit pricey, but cool nonetheless.
+Dugg - Atom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Beautiful. Thanks for the link.
- MattZed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cool, pricey tho. also, its not too often i have a piece of paper that i want to hide for that kinda money..
+digg nevertheless, the concept is tres cool. - Chexee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh man, that is such an amazing books, and these are pretty amazing! Def digg
- shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The movie is going to be excellent and very scenic. The book was pretty fun. Not 100% accurate but that's why it's called a STORY (which the fundaMENTALists can't get through their heads). I can't wait.
- zatrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"The basic price for a design that stays close to the standard materials and features (those shown in the Nested Cryptex(tm) Security Box Gallery) is $6,180.34. If you can tell me the significance of this price I'll throw in a "bonus" with the order of one of these boxes."
can anybody say phi? :P
- coldsteel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Useless, Overpriced gadgets -- Damn I want one (I have a pretty good collection of Curta's so it kind of makes sense) Nicholasion - thanks for your link as well - much more reasonable priced alternative. Although I wouldn't object if someone wanted to give me an ebony and gold cryptex with ruby spacers from the cryptex.org site :-)
- seanabernethie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I loved every page in that book and have since read all of Dan Brown books and loved them all
- jbstrick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It looks like Dan Brown has one himself. Pricey, but functional art usually is. Good digg!
- nuclearpenguins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ok, I so want one, or at least the plans to make one myself.
- tkw722, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A. Relax
B. I don't read The Da Vinci Code as history (Its found in the fiction section)
C. The purpose of the article was not historical accuracy. It was to show a link to a cool website that I came upon. - braxfortex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good eye! I bet the guy who makes these was trying to get them included in the movie. The one they went with doesn't look anything like them, though, and certainly doesn't look like anything Leonardo Da Vinci would make.
- mattconn24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Man why is all this Da Vinci Code crap getting started up. It is about the Cryptex!! Like one in the Book. This isn't about the Book. It is something cool so why can't you guys just take it for what it is.
- MrMysterious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sweet...pricey but sweet!
- tazamore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg++ but beyond my price range.
For less than $100 check out Japanese Puzzle boxes:
http://www.cleverwood.com/japanese_artists_price_list.htm - toekneebullard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I just finished Da Vinci Code, and I gotta say, I don't understand what everone is raving about. It's just not that good.
- mattconn24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is so cool. I love stuff like this. Would love to make my own sometime. Anyone know where you can get plans on how to make one??
- JakeMcMahon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Its awesome looking. They are essentially little safes. They were originally designed by Leonardo DaVinci. They were found as little drawings in his notebooks."
Nope, the cryptex was 'invented' by Dan Brown. - Duston, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0he basic price for a design that stays close to the standard materials and features (those shown in the Nested Cryptex(tm) Security Box Gallery) is $6,180.34. If you can tell me the significance of this price I'll throw in a "bonus" with the order of one of these boxes. Hint - this price is simply divine.
Phi! - cryptor6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pretty cool! I enjoyed the Davinci Code.
This device is a sort of "archaic looking" but neatly engineered combination lock tube that holds documents. Its designed so that tampering with it would release chemicals that would destroy the documents inside. In this day, we don't really need something like this but would still be pretty cool to have on the shelf at work. - Waffles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Beautiful, but very costly. If I were rich, this would make a great birthday present for my dad.
- mattconn24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^^^
lol that was great.. and it is a MacBook Pro lol. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Pretty awesome. Kinda expensive...
http://www.gfx.com - tkw722, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Its awesome looking. They are essentially little safes. They were originally designed by Leonardo DaVinci. They were found as little drawings in his notebooks. This site actually makes them based on DaVinci's drawings fit to your order.
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I have to get around to reading that book sometime. I would digg it, but I don't have a clue what its for :-|
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"...A. Relax

I think you missed he point. You see, actually, your title is MISLEADING as the articel has absolutely nothing to do with the D-Code. - everfresh59, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Jessek, your such a geek.....Da Vinci Code is all true.....look at the paintings of the last supper, he ain't lying....
- jaybones1515, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Gay. Who would by this crap? if it doesnt work off ELECTRICITY its not a useful gadget.
- brockpetrie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0"His name isn't "DaVinci" you dolt. "Da Vinci" simply means that he was from the city of Vinci, Italy. Anyone from that city can be called "Da Vinci". It's not a compound word and it certainly isn't a last name. The proper use would be "Leonardo Da Vinci's"."
Every person with a half brain could infer that's who this was referring to, you dumb *****. Try finding a life that doesn't require you to rant on obvious ***** to make you feel smarter. Thanks for playing, have a nice day. - jessek, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0His name isn't "DaVinci" you dolt. "Da Vinci" simply means that he was from the city of Vinci, Italy. Try actually learning from a history book instead of relying on "The Da Vinci Code" for all your historical information. - mockstar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0I would totally digg this if it was the gheyist thing ever
