- saachi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2whoa, I just noticed that its an open source DISTRIBUTED project. With 4500+ jobs in the queue I suppose how else would they get the job done. The screenshots are very good quality, showing the whole page in sections and not just the 'top half'.
Another similar service that had been down for aaages I see is back up, http://www.fundisom.com/g5/ which takes screenshots of your site in a few browser on a mac.
Thanks to those who submitted google, I've also wondered what it looks like in Firefox 800x600... - djrbx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cool, but really slow.
- z0rz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can't wait til it isn't slow.. I have major need of this right now.
- vanlandw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah the queue says anything submitted right now is going to take 17 hours to process....great idea though..diggin
- Webteeth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It would be cool if there were a p2p network of webmasters who could download an application and test their website in a service such as this one. Cool digg though, a little too slow for me :p
- twistymcgee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been looking for something like this for some time...if only I could actually see it.
- jzahra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Really slow site but it seems pretty cool.
- celeb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Processing may take a while. Usually the first screenshots will be available two minutes after submitting, and the last will be finished within half an hour. If the job queue is exceptionally full, you may have to wait a few hours or longer.
too bad you cant dl the app to your own server for testing - ahmerhussain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0digg should have some sort of system where it can automatically set up mirrors for the sites the posts like to or have the poster host a mirror for like a week so that stuff doesn't go down when it gets on the digg homepage and is on slashdot the next day
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Really slow probably because of digg users.. Guess I can wait until tomorrow and then try it out.
- fourzerofour, on 10/12/2007, -0/+032 hours now
- lixlpixel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@saachi " that had been down for aaages I see is back up" ...
well - the screenshot service is down nearly every day, it's my desktop G5, when i sleep, the system sleeps too...
but it's online and working nearly every day - you must have been very unlucky to see it offline so often. - ScootUnder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wish the site wasn't so bogged down... damn digg users! lol
-scooter - motionblur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not bad....just 61 days for my first submission to make it to the front page. LOL...
- porplem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool idea, though. Submitted 59 days ago? Huh.
- crash331, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0mine is gonna take 39 hours
- fourzerofour, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0doubt anyone could post a mirror of this particular thing.. but I know what you're saying
- saachi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+037 hours now. good service.
funny when people get diggs back on stuff like we dugg a site too much or something, lol. - nthitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"If you submit a job now, it will be finished in 80 h." So much for the 2minute thing. Oh well.
- nocircleno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It is a nice try, but if anyone really needs this service user browsercam.
http://www.browsercam.com
You have to pay, but it's fast which is important if your debugging a website. - brian2k1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been looking for a service just like this to avoid purchasing Opera and a Mac for their 1% user base on one of our clients websites.
If anyone knows how to do this in .NET please leave a comment or link. Thanks. - thecapitalizt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+096 hours now.
- saachi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Kind of weird how the 2 BrowserShot.org diggs are kind of cross linked, the newer one 'redirected' to the older one.
- atf487, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i used this to see if it was my fault that the toyota.com is dodgy in firefox...
but im not sure it's going to help at all. - sTiVo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+091 hrs now. YAWN. It's cool to see other ppl's websites tho.
- robmadole, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Free sometimes has its drawbacks I guess...still it's better than $19.95 for a SINGLE DAY at browsercam.com. Although it is a SWEET service. Anyone want to go in on a full year membership? If we can get 25 of us together, it will cost about $20 for a full year. (I've seen this done through fundable.com; can't take credit for the idea)
- t_stehilaire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yay! I'm going to sit here for 88 hrs and see what my site looks like in Safari!! .....or I could drive 2 hrs away and get my Apple Laptop; or to the library which uses IE6.... Nah! Gas prices are too high. Yay! I'm going to sit here for 88 hrs to see my site in Safari!
I need some nachos for this or something. - ph3rny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0its really slow...
and the internet explorer installed on theyre computer needs windows update...
so on every internet explorer picture theres a little windows update box just sitting there
they should check every once and a while - kenok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, just used it lastweek and got the old layout.
- Adelaide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+06 days, hmmm...
Somebody please remind me to check them! - TuckWat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0says "Domain Name not found" for me
- .Steven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very nice!
- pibby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ jp10558
Not everyone has a Mac and not everyone has Windows. I use a Mac, but if I install IE on here that is no indication of what it would like like on a Windows PC.
Browsershots used to be quite quick, but now it seems the queue is half full of porn sites, google.com, digg, and other useless crap that is not being used to actually serve it's intended purpose. A real pain in the butt for web designers like me who are trying to simply view the screenshots. Surely the web designer of "freaky teen sluts with farm animals" is not trying to debug his/her site. - aepex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+05 days, geez. I think everyone just flooded the site, haha....
- jp10558, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, first, it doesn't seem to work that well for me. The test cnn that they already had done always pops up the IE screenshot. Plus, they have mostly old versions of software. 1.04 of FF? 7.54 of Opera? That's way out of date, since 7.54, Opera has had 7.54u1,7.54u2,8.0,8.01, and now the current version is 8.02.
If you are a web designer, you should just have each browser you are testing against available locally. They all offer free trials/versions. And as a serious web dev, even buying them should be part of your budget!
I can't see this being very useful really. - Akia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great find. Now I don't have to actually get all the browsers and OS's installed to see if my site actually works on all of them. (Main problem is usually IE on Windows though, ._.; )
- lixlpixel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0if you don't want to wait and need to see your site on Mac browsers, try
