- Cglass, on 05/09/2009, -4/+256CUZ YOU DONT LOOK AT HORSE PORN
HURRRRRRR - Kwipper, on 05/09/2009, -86/+324I have been using Windows as my main OS for years and years and well... I have yet to be taken down by a botnet, virus or hacker, or anything coming from the internet. I also use the internet quite regularly too. Unlike a lot of people, I also didn't take the pussy way out by switching away from Windows like a lot of the pussies on internet that recommend that you do.
Seriously, those who get these problems deserve it. They're doing something stupid that is causing these problems. Stop being stupid and learn how to use a ***** Windows computer properly.. you ***** retards!
You now may digg me down, cause I don't give a flying *****. - Gareth321, on 05/09/2009, -4/+192"Security experts aren't sure why yet"
FOR THE ***** LULZ.
Seriously though, who wouldn't get a God complex with 100,000 computers at their disposal? - Snoods, on 05/09/2009, -2/+132In other new, about 98,000 grandmothers around the globe are angry that they "Cant get solitaire to 'download'".
- Intention, on 05/09/2009, -7/+133WELL GOD DAMN IT AND ***** *****
COMPUTER MOTHER ***** DICK - babbitblob, on 05/09/2009, -4/+129Funny how mine never got affected... and I look at horse porn. Gee.. why is that?
- SniperZero, on 05/09/2009, -5/+129Because you haven't run the following program
botnet_virus_trojan_deletes_your_data_do_not_run_this_you_idiot_I_am_serious_dont_run_this.exe - inactive, on 05/09/2009, -12/+91because most viri / trojans / botnets nowdays do not crash your pc and del files. So you are possibly host to 100 diff trojans and wouldnt be the slightest bit aware apart from your pc not being as responsive as it used to be.
Retard. - Rhydeble, on 05/09/2009, -1/+76dugg for I have no idea why.
- Mazrin, on 05/09/2009, -12/+84Don't call the people who got infected retards and *****. Just because you're a tech savvy youth who was brought up with an almost intuitive understanding of how all this stuff works, not everyone else was. My parents aren't dumb just because I have to fix their computer all the time, they just aren't familiar with the technology.
Btw, stop arguing about the Mac vs PC crap. Yes, right now, if you don't want viruses without the hassle of regular maintenance, then a mac might be for you. However, in a few years, when there's enough macs and hackers start giving a *****, even the mac users like myself, who switched out of annoyance, will have to deal with regular maintenance again (at which point I'll probably go back to PC, since that was my only real complaint. Windows is fine, I was perfectly capable of maintaining it, and never got anything serious, i just didn't want to spend time maintaining it)
If the comment thing bounces in my face anymore I'm going to explode.
/rant - inactive, on 05/09/2009, -5/+76You are a bear and therefore are the #1 threat to the nation.
- InactiveCargo, on 05/09/2009, -10/+65My PC is running Windows and wasn't affected by this.
HOLY ***** USER EDUCATION GOES A LONG WAY?! - inactive, on 05/09/2009, -2/+50I have a 'Commadore 64' just in case that happens to me.
- Rudegar, on 05/09/2009, -2/+48"Security experts aren't sure why yet, although they have some ideas."
the l33t h@x0r had a female down in his mums basement and wanted to show off
pulling the switch thats why - cowboy86, on 05/09/2009, -27/+70I run Windows, Linux, and OSX. I have never once in a decade installed ant- virus and have yet to deal with any real problems. These people are just idiots who shouldn't own computers.
- Magnus150, on 05/09/2009, -1/+42For the same reason in simcity, after we build a huge, massive metropolis we plop down Godzilla and some floods and watch.
We do it...
For the lulz. - stotty, on 05/09/2009, -5/+46You are a bit dense if you are running Windows without anti-virus. Lilke mem2 said, you're probably a host to a lot of infections, but how would you know without any software to scan your pc?
- Ajajadude, on 05/09/2009, -18/+56The more popular an OS becomes, the bigger the chance that it becomes a target.
- breadfred, on 05/09/2009, -19/+57I wonder if you are always a dick, or only on this occasion.
- breadfred, on 05/09/2009, -11/+49It's a user problem. I run Windows. Have done since 3.11. No virus here, no malware. Just basic common sense. Don't download from unreliable sources. Don't willy nilly click on links. You know what I mean.
- hoodedrobin, on 05/09/2009, -6/+42WATCH OUT....
Internet Tough Guy comin' threw'! - rmxz, on 05/09/2009, -4/+39Vista used so much CPU and other resources the trojan never got a chance to run (yet)?
- NinjaGod, on 05/09/2009, -3/+37It is because you are awesome, sir.
- gcnaddict, on 05/09/2009, -8/+36The stupid Windows users are moving to Mac OS X to look cool, and based on the iBotnet thing that's going around through pirated copies of iWork, I suspect you guys will have your fair share of morons soon enough.
- inactive, on 05/09/2009, -3/+29*Whoosh*
- combatchuck, on 05/09/2009, -3/+28Incorrect on all counts.
Mac OS is based on BSD, which is decidedly the most Unix-like modern OS, aside from Unix itself.
Linux is Unix-like, but it is not Unix. In fact, the proper label, GNU/Linux, specifically implies that it's not Unix. "Gnu's Not Unix"
Windows currently has more relation to OS/2 than DOS. All modern Windows are based on NT, which was Microsoft's distribution of the OS co-developed by IBM and Microsoft. And even at that, anything after Vista is a massive rewrite of what was already there. - InactiveCargo, on 05/09/2009, -2/+27It's not the "botnet master" - the researchers who discovered this say that it was most likely rival operators or security researchers* who didn't know what they were doing.
*Not deliberately - the article speculates that they were trying to take it over and didn't know what they were doing. Security researchers try take over bot nets regularly, see:

http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/01/11/192 ... - BoneheadFarker, on 05/09/2009, -2/+26After you've been asked for the 27th ***** time to clean your sister's computer because she absolutely MUST install every goddamn thing she finds, you're bound to be tempted to install Linux to make it stop. But then you'll have her coming back the next day complaining that she can't install some ***** screensaver with fancy fish. These people will never learn. There is no way to fix them. And when you're related to them, you can't refuse.
I'm not a pussy...I'm one of the damned... - RealJimShady, on 05/09/2009, -6/+30Wow, what a scoop! "Windows virus only takes down Windows machines.". You are special.
- digggggggggg, on 05/09/2009, -3/+26Every operating system has holes. Even the ones that are relatively secure (openBSD?) are only as secure as the least secure service you install.
It doesn't matter what you're using right now. Just because you haven't been infected yet doesn't mean it's impossible. It's just that the black hats out there haven't come after you and your OS... yet.
So, for those of you who weren't affected, wipe that smirk off your face and quit with that "holier than thou" attitude. This is everyone's problem, and simply saying that the victims should have used Linux or bought a Mac is besides the point. - inactive, on 05/09/2009, -4/+25Yeah you are! Idiot
- inactive, on 05/09/2009, -3/+23No matter if you like Vista or not, you gotta admit that was pretty funny.
- 0tis, on 05/09/2009, -11/+31Kwipper: Valid point, but buried for expressing it in the most retarded way possible.
- GenghisTom, on 05/09/2009, -5/+25While that is true, it is also true that a better designed an OS's security is the more secure it is, and Windows doesn't really have a good track record in that respect.
- sukimashita, on 05/09/2009, -5/+24The thing with Windows nowadays is that even if you are not an "idiot", you can not escape becoming infected (network intrusion, malformed content/documents, ...). You should try to scan your computer at least once now. Be ready for a few surprises...
- inactive, on 05/09/2009, -4/+22@kwipper chill dude these so called idiots are my bread and butter. Now please say your sorry to my idiots so I can get paid.
- 007isbond1, on 05/09/2009, -1/+18but he uses digg..
- inactive, on 05/09/2009, -0/+17FWD> FWD> FWD> WEBSITE WITH REALLY CUTE KITTIES CLICK ON LINK
No Grandma NOOOOOOOO! - Snitzel, on 05/09/2009, -4/+20You don't have to download any stupid ***** to become infected. Many viruses are embedded in web pages, written in java and executed when your browser compiles the web page. If you don't have at least some form of anti virus / firewall software on your computer you are an idiot.
- MushinVin, on 05/09/2009, -1/+14I wouldn't says it's always the fault of a 'stupid' user, in many cases it's simply an ignorant user. Windows based PCs control the retail computer industry and many times people buy computers that come with either no anti-virus software, or a trial version which eventually runs out...so these users end up with quasi-unprotected computers after a time; so a lot of computer illiterate people peruse the web without much (or any) knowledge of what all's out there.
Now that I think about it, if the big PC companies like Dell and HP started pre-installing their rigs with Firefox/Chrome, the world would be a considerably safer place in terms of computer security. - GenghisTom, on 05/09/2009, -1/+14Maybe a guy that understands that he simultaneously is destroying what he has previously been using as a huge source of income? Just knowing you control them would be enough, I would think. Why bother BSODing them and ruining your botnet that you worked so hard to build?
This is all hypothetical, BTW. - inactive, on 05/09/2009, -2/+15Your a pimp? And they have to get real girls because their porn is down?
- gcnaddict, on 05/09/2009, -1/+13haha, you saw the comment box bouncing too? I hate that.
Anyway, it's reasonable to say that the people who were infected are ignorant. Unfortunately, the problem is that many of them also don't feel like learning even the most basic security precautions.
This is what makes them morons. - doshindude, on 05/09/2009, -1/+13Tourettes Guy..is that you?
- deroderugridder, on 05/09/2009, -11/+22Cause you never heard of the internet?
- blacklilyninja, on 05/09/2009, -3/+14you mean like how to avoid the botnet headache?
oh wait - Syzothermy, on 05/09/2009, -3/+14..thus proving the theory that macs are for idiots?
- alpha88, on 05/09/2009, -0/+10You can get malware without being an idiot. Conficker spread regardless of anti-virus and firewall measures. If you mean trojans specifically, you're right, I have no clue.
- Kenelm, on 05/09/2009, -7/+17Yep, and if everyone switches to Linux or OSX, we'll soon have Linux and OSX botnets.
Title correction: Botnet master hits the kill switch, takes down 100,000 PCs belonging to retards. -
