- anitab83, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Great article, but to say the blogging phenomenon is winding down because the growth rate is slowing seems a little silly. When you have 55 Million blogs to start with, it's hard to grow much larger. It would be like saying that the U.S. "driving" phenomenon is ending because auto sales are not growing.
- Epyn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Does that mean the terminology is going with it?
/crosses fingers - bigtomrodney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Man I wish people who didn't have a good reason to blog would stop already. Sportstar - Maybe. Top Developer - Makes sense.
Emo Kid - Well this is why we shouldn't have blogs. Who cares? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7counter argument here

I drank a latte today does anybody want to read about it on my blog? I took a 14 inch crap this morning, do you want to read about?
My father taught me from an early age that the more you start sentences with I, me or my, ( ironically, I started this with MY) the more often people will become bored with your conversation... do you want to read this on my blog (probably not). While not all blogs are "me, my, i" - there's an amazing number that are... or at least are motivated by personal opinion. It's only natural that a drop-off in readership occurs as a social corrective measure.
But seriously, I did make an enormous doodie this morning - I'm happy to share the story if there's enough interested readers. - dkm201, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Are you retarded? Yes, yes you are. Nothing in the description or in the article says anything about 'reduction', it only refers to a 'slowdown in growth'. Don't let that stop you from getting on your high horse though!
Also, "journalists of the news media"? I'd love to see your posts on "baseball players of sports" if you have any to add. - gonzo1773, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4My 8-ball says "Ar' Matey!"
(its one from McDonalds Pirates happy meals). - Whackly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4perhaps you should blog about it
- rysolag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3perhaps
- joestump, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I'm surprised that there's a slow down in the number of people wanting to ramble on about themselves.
- konspence, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Or blag about it.
http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/mispronouncing.png - RonaldLewis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Gartner is way off on this prediction. Blogging is far from slowing down. Not even close. It's only going to grow, just like the Internet.
- otheruser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Perhaps there's some truth to this.
Over the past few months, I've come across some very insightful journalistic blogs, and there's room for plenty more. I've also seen plenty of vague, open-to-everything blogs die down.
Blogs are becoming more specific in their mission statements. Political, journalistic blogs are becoming more prevalent, and in my opinion, that's great! Gone are the days when people would read entries about personal lives (if those days every existed). If you're very interested in a particular area, and have the ability and time to do the research, there's room. - salinemist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Kind of like the "recession" we had after 9/11. GDP growth never went sideways or negative.
- RonaldLewis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe he wasn't, or perhaps he was re-instated thanks to a known blogger and his story about the fiasco.
- timjbart, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4For every million blogs, 1 of them is worth reading. I hope blogging dies a death!
- Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't think people care about blogs anywhere near as much as bloggers think they do. Every time I stumble onto Valleywag, for example, I find myself saying, as I scroll down the page -- "Who the ***** are these people? Why are they so ironic-Bluetooth-startup-latte-MacBook-socialmedia-IPO all the ***** time?" It's a bizzare microculture that comments at least as much about itself as it does the world around it.
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I sure hope this is true. Blogs hurt my brain and blog spam makes me want to kill people.
- Blandyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not to be a dick (but it'll probably come off that way)
Were you trying to type "Hallelujah"? - adspigot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think it's like anything really. The crap blogs are going away, the blogs people create and never really post to are going away. I don't know about alot of these people, but my traffic has doubled every month for the past four months. I would hardly call that a downward trend.
JB - sideshowRAHEEM, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2know one reads blogs anymore........................
-you can read the rest of this comment on my blog. - vhold, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3What difference does it make to you? Nothing is forcing you to read them.
I'd understand maybe a complaint about them clogging up search results with useless non-information. I suppose I have run into that a little, but not too much. - DanielNielsen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hate blogs and always have, i just wish they would go away all ready.
- eddanger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Is this the appropriate forum for my own blog spam? ;) http://playwithyourwii.com/.
- Tetraca, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Well, that somewhat sucks. Blogs are great. Clogs are not. If the internet could have more blogs rather than clogs I would probably read more.
- poopinator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Mad plops to my boy, Mr Lynn.
- zeppo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1gartner reports whatever on whoever pays them. Meaning whatever gartner group says is worthless.
- sovietmedia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Huh? As opposed to dying a race car? Oh I geddit, as opposed to dying a T-shirt. Sorry, my mistake, carry on.
- cage1220, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Gartner is a joke!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1...and the journalists of the news media wonder why people are turning them off & turning on to blogs written by intelligent people.
When will they learn? Please excuse the caps, but I have to try and get through to their gray matter:
A SLOW-DOWN IN THE RATE OF GROWTH IS NOT A REDUCTION. IT IS NOT THE REVERSAL OF A TREND. IT IS THE CONTINUATION OF ONE. IF YOU'RE A JOURNALIST, REPEAT THIS TEN TIMES.
There is no news here.
