- jannefoo, on 05/26/2008, -2/+82***** SMÁÍS!
- chompysweat, on 05/26/2008, -1/+69I hope they make a movie about this. A high budget spy espionage type action film. I'd definitely download the TORRENT for it.
- trivialmaggot, on 05/26/2008, -0/+45That pirate's a ninja too.
- DomZy, on 05/26/2008, -0/+34What's more interesting is that they somehow got admin access to the tracker
- NathanMahdavi, on 05/26/2008, -0/+30Great story.
- grungemusic3001, on 05/26/2008, -3/+32another epic win for p2p!
- Ksg89, on 05/26/2008, -6/+27Some would also say its illegal to download music you didn't pay for.
- ordig, on 05/26/2008, -4/+24I would not classify anti-piracy groups who are trying to protect their capital as communists. That seems backwards.
- anonymousleaf, on 05/26/2008, -3/+22Raped. Sounds reminiscent of the MediaDefender-Defenders.
- Shadowgamers, on 05/26/2008, -0/+14I wonder when this will appear on Wikileaks...
- AzureRise, on 05/26/2008, -2/+16I would classify them more as capitalist, pigs.
- dawpa2000, on 05/26/2008, -1/+14Outrageous!
- mikephimikephi, on 05/26/2008, -1/+14Isn't it illegal to gain information through such means? Especially when it regards a possible criminal case?
I would genuinely like to know. - inactive, on 05/26/2008, -1/+13unnar is a winnar
- MAGZine, on 05/26/2008, -2/+11That right, Peter Sunde. We're looking at you. Just get Fredrik to smack ya around.
They'll never be the wiser!!! - DigitAl56K, on 05/26/2008, -1/+8It's not interesting in the sense that it happened - it only takes one exploit.
It _is_ interesting in that if they hacked in, or compensated another party for hacking in, then they are guilty of criminal actions (at least in most countries, not sure about Iceland's laws). I wonder what Icelandic courts think about bringing cases against people identified by thoroughly illegal means? - cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -1/+7I totally, agree.
- inactive, on 05/26/2008, -0/+6I keep reading his name as "Unrar". Damn Torrents.
- vfreak2, on 05/26/2008, -1/+6See, we will not just give up so easily. Unnar, you've just made yourself a p2p hero among us! Well done mate!
- eminn3m, on 05/26/2008, -3/+8That's so badass!
- DigitAl56K, on 05/26/2008, -2/+7I seem to recall it being illegal for police and related agencies to gather information this way in the US, but that it can be submitted if it was obtained by someone else. However, if they did obtain information by unauthorized use of the server (i.e. hacking) then that in and of itself may be a crime. Of course, they aren't in the US, but perhaps it's similar in Iceland.
I am not a lawyer. But you may have guessed that already. - cughin, on 05/26/2008, -1/+6i wanna pat this guy on the back, way to stick it to the man
- threepio, on 05/26/2008, -1/+5You don't need to capitalize the first letter of every word. Please stop.
- 9bpm9, on 05/26/2008, -2/+6Yeah, that's how you deal with communists, act exactly like them.
- starman2020, on 05/26/2008, -1/+4This is a great story! All pirates unite ahrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !
- Zihuatanejo, on 05/26/2008, -0/+3Ah, Iceland's version of the Departed.
- ultrafez, on 05/26/2008, -1/+4No.
- aserer511, on 05/26/2008, -0/+3Yes! We need to use guerrilla tactics against these scumbags!
- jinxplayer, on 05/26/2008, -1/+3Any kiddy can run an exploit guys. Its the trackers fault for not keeping their software up to date.
- hobsdv, on 05/26/2008, -5/+7good post
- Louis11, on 05/26/2008, -0/+2Don't make assumptions. You have no idea if it was a released vulnerability or a 0-day. If it was the latter, then updating their software would have had little effect . . .
- nephilimx, on 05/26/2008, -0/+1I dont see how this story is great for pirates, it shows that SMÁÍS was easily able to get user info from a private tracker and admin rights.
Sure they can argue that they hacked, but it proberly has little to do with the case with copyright. - lukeev, on 05/27/2008, -1/+1I would certainly not *NOT* download it... hypothetically speaking!
- darkzeroman, on 05/26/2008, -2/+1shut up!
its on digg and something against a group like MPAA, so it has to be an EPIC WIN!
don't you know how things work around here? - cliffski, on 05/26/2008, -7/+1what a retard.
- cliffski, on 05/26/2008, -7/+1of course it is, but the retarded thiefs who run torrent sites dont have the brain power to understand that point.
- NekroMachine, on 05/26/2008, -9/+3SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY! (Not Literaly Off Course) That Really Is Taking One For The Team Man, And Putting Your Community Before Your Self Is True Dedication. Both The Virtual & Real World Need More Of The Spirit Unnar Has In Spades. A Model Citizen Whom Standards Will Surely Be Built Upon By Others If In Similar Sircumstances Or Oppertunities.
TO UNNAR THE ICELANDIC OPPERTUNIST - cliffski, on 05/26/2008, -8/+1jesus people like you are retards. What *man* are they sticking it to? EVERYONE in the entertainment industry? every musician whose music gets stolen? everyone who ever worked on any game, software or movie or tv show ever?
Are you REALLY that ***** stupid to think all those people deserve to be ripped off?
Grow up little kiddie. - plopper, on 05/26/2008, -29/+17This is exactly how you deal with communists. Penetrate and infiltrate! It may sound dirty but it works. Well done.
- DaDrake, on 05/26/2008, -21/+2Anyone else gets the feeling this isn't news... not significant... and the author shouldn't describe his action as some covert-operation. Plus, there isn't anything criminal apparent here... even if this happen (Be nice if we had evidence instead of some testimony), they need to prove they did something illegal.
What is Digg?
Digg is coming to a city (and computer) near you! Check out all the details on our
