- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Is it ironic that people post "this is a duplicate" when 1) someone else has already mentioned that it was a duplicate and or 2) that they reported it as a duplicate via the mechanism digg has for doing this. If that isn't enough, now you have people posting "reported as old" indicating not only that they just used the digg mechanism for reporting it as old, but now duplicated that by telling everyone that they reported it as old.

I'm sure a lot of us have pirated something or other in our lifetime. Just because he's rich and famous doesn't make it any different. I'm NOT a Microsoft fanboy, in fact I work on all Macs. All I'm saying is, just because Bill Gates is famous, it doesn't make any worse when he does something wrong.

Bill Gates admitted he watched a video on a website that was posted it without the copyright owners permission.
He's no more guilty of piracy, than someone who listens to someone's stereo playing illegally downloaded music.

Anyway, you can see now that piracy is widely spread across the nation, the MPAA and RIAA can't afford to sue someone like Bill Gates, so instead they will sue grandmothers and teenagers.
Don't get me wrong piracy is a bad thing and artists need some kind of retribution for their work but not the way the RIAA and MPAA intended (ie suing their fan base).

- mistshadow2k4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bill Gates has been griping about software piracy since before the first file-sharing network came into existence. Microsoft has the most stringent anti-piracy measures in their OS which has been to declare legitimate copies as pirated. And IIRC Microsoft has disabled OEM Windows XP keys to prevent them from being pirated, which cheats the people who originally bought those copies and aren't sharing them with anyone out of their right to use the software they paid for. So yes, this is news and disgustingly hypocritical on his part.

As for the Window's question, it has a licence agreement. Of course if you unknowingly buy a pirated copy that doesn't have that then we are back to the pirates being at fault. If you knew it was pirated, it back to you again. Fun how that works. (Of course this is all based my weak understanding of copyright law) - revidium, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The problem is the person who posted this story is given a list of possible duplicates before he submits. A front page story from yesterday with almost the same exact title would've been hard to miss. Guy did it on purpose clearly.
