- pilotmike, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34Digg doesn't dig quotes in titles.
I had the same problem.
Geez, digg guys, that is fixable. - tek1024, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31I'm amused and confused, honestly ... this must have been what it sounded like to live in fifteenth century Germany after the Gutenberg Bible was published on the first printing press(es) and hear somebody scoff, "Yeah like I'm going to read books that aren't hand-copied."
- barbobot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26television?! on the computer?! Mad Hattery Magic I say, keep it away from me! Next women will be driving and voting!
- thesweethog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Arrrgh! It cut the title... should read "Ben Stiller's lost 1999 Pilot for Heat Vision and Jack"
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18futurama, family guy, firefly... just think of what else they missed that we don't even know about.
- tobsterius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17unfortunately with TV, you usually have to create programming that caters to the 'simple minded' folk out there. Which usually doesn't leave room for very many creative and original comedies. You usually end up with typical 4 camera sitcoms that just end up repeating the same tired jokes and comic cliches that have been done over and over in the past. The average person isn't really interested in trying something new when it comes to TV. Instead of shows like Arrested Development, Futurama or even Firefly, the average person out there is more interested in shows like Two and a Half Men, Raymond, or Will and Grace(why did this show last so long?) The more people the network can get to watch, the more money they make. And TV is ALL about money.
When original and innovative programming does happen to find itself on the air, it usually doesn't last that long. Although NBC seems to be doing really well with My Name Is Earl, The Office(ok not really "original", but the storylines for the US version are new) and Scrubs. All are untraditional sitcoms in a sense that they are usually shot only with one camera, the storylines can last into multiple shows and seasons, and generally focus more on the characters then they do the one line zingers and sight gags. - jathos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Bittorrent of the MPGs are here: http://waxy.org/bt/
- barbobot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15arrested development added to the list
- pauldonnelly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Heh. Some of us actually put our computers in comfortable places so we can do things like that. The even more radical among us use laptops, and watch wherever we please. It may not be your thing, but you make it sound like watching video on a computer is some sort of bizarre thing that no one else does either. Amusingly enough, you're wrong.
- THX-7168, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15They didn't pick this up because Fox wants to make room for shows like "American Idol" "Nanny 911" "Skating with Celebrities" "So You thing You Can Dance" "Trading Spouses" "The Loop" "Unanimous" and "The War At Home"
And we all know that those shows are WAY better than Arrested Development, Futurama, etc. - durandtheman, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Awesome!!! Jack Black is hilarious!! I love how they start the series with episode 14.
"Apparently the human mind is not unlike Cookie Dough!"
"How 'High' did your rocketship take you til you got totally 'baked'?"
P.S. Jack Black plays one of the funniest geniuses i've seen - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16That pilot rules.
- Hyperion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10"His parents, Thomas W. Black and Judith C. Cohen, were satellite engineers and members of a naturist group, Family Synergy." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Black_%28actor%29
- eccramer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13This is gloriuos. How did this not get picked up. Fox is filled with idiots (Firefly much?)
Cheers
-E- - tekmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14Heh. themachina was referring to "you're nostrils", not "your lungs".
- cainrok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Well Jack Black's parents are Space engineers (rocket scientists) aren't they?
- kuzkos, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12"If I feel so much as one bullet hit me, I'll come over there and pull your lungs through you're nostrils"
This is one of the best shows I've ever seen. - madjo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5or lack of knowledge to set things up correctly... BT is very useful and can get very fast, especially with many seeds, you just need to set up your connection correctly.. if you are behind a router, you need to take special care... (for instance, the BT traffic has to be allowed access to your computer)
Google it, on how to set it up, and you'll see dramatic changes.
Please do not see this as a flame, because it is not meant that way. - barbobot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5im seeding em now :D
- rm999, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"Geez, digg guys, that is fixable."
Yeah, where exactly is that 2.8 million dollars in funds going?
I've also had problems with comments getting cut off for using fairly benign characters - SixSider, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4For those of use who grew up with the Six Million Dollar Man and Knight Rider, this show was genius.
- barbobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4for those curious, heat vision is "watching" doctor who
definitly not dissapointed - jschrab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Not true in this one case! Christine Taylor and Ben Stiller first *met* on the set of Heat Vision and Jack!
- dylanrjones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I remember seeing this a few years back in a small independent movie theatre in Montreal, along with several other unaired pilots. It was great then, and I still love it. However, I remember a show called "Bannigan" that took the cake starring Adam West as an ex-TV cop, who solves mysteries between teaching his amateur acting classes. If someone can find that, I recommend giving it a watch.
- tek1024, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Agreed, have you tried http://keepvid.com/ ? It's the only way I can watch long YouTube videos without copious interruptions. Save file as *.flv and Mplayer/VLC/&c. can play them....
- gdog05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Don't forget that they missed the Sopranos as well. Which actually turned out really good for all of us I think. Even Fox couldn't get away with Tony scraggin' some Bada Bing dancer every few episodes.
- thesweethog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'm looking for an edit, man... but I'm not seeing it. I'm not sure why quotes are filtered, but that's ridiculous. What is this, as shell script? C'mon...
- discoloda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3obligary "id hit that"
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yeah, i'm getting it at 200kB/s, which is pretty much my full bandwidth capacity..
dognose, you obviously don't have bittorrent set up correctly. google it. - Yankees368, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4can someone please post a direct video link, or post it on video.google.com
- orbitalleader, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4What do you mean, lost? Trio aired it a ton before it went off the air.
- fac3less, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Diafel is an idjut. ;)
With that said: YouTube is slower than molasses. - BigEasy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hilarious. If he'd cast Chuck Norris instead of Ron Silver I think we all agree that the it would have been unbelievably-zen-perfect.
"You can't run forever, Jack. Not from death. Not from your shadow. Not from Chuck Norris." - TheGrinReaper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So let's be honest, this show is insane. I'm a huge fan of The Ben Stiller show and the history of it's cancellation and post cancellation Emmy-win is really a testament of Fox's unbelievable inability to allow a show of quality to last on its network. But it almost feels like Stiller played a big joke on whoever dropped the money on this pilot. It's uber camp, I know, but doesn't it feel like it could never, ever have existed beyond this sole pilot? But I don't want that to immediately be perceived as an ultimately negative comment. Its insanity is its high point. But let's not get carried away with our fan-splooges
- jschrab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can *assure* you that co-writer Rob Schrab is a big Dr. Who fan.
- MacHarborGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I had this video about 2 years ago. Burned it to a miniDVD. Enjoyable for total B-TVshow fodder.
- dimsumx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i'm not complaining... :P
- godmode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2damn, Ben Stiller puts his wife in every one of his movies
- LittleOni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Really funny *****. I love Stiller's dead-pan writing style and this was a great example of it. Too bad it wasn't made into a series, it would've been pretty damn good.
- smojo12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Very interesting pilot....I love Stiller but I'm glad that they pilot never went anywhere. The show would have lasted about 2 weeks
- ericeman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I love the show but this is quite old in respects to being downloadable.. still digging it though.
For some reason people are very love/hate with Ben Stillers work. - SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I tried the greasemonkey thing, and it cut off after about 10 minutes. only downloaded about 70mb of the 300mb file. Looks like torrent is the way to go on this one.
- JDOG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Fantastic. Although in all honestly how long could this show have lasted? 8-10 episodes?
I'm sure great pilots are a dime a dozen, but thanks it was a treat. - tobsterius, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Just to add on my original post: Reality shows are cheap to produce. Get a bunch of people, get some cameras, get an editing team and start shooting. No need to hire writers since the stories will be created in editorial.
I can't seem to explain why the hell they are popular... that is beyond me. - luke--, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is really good stuff. I got it a long time ago from some odd link.
- TVarmy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This show's bizareness reminds me of the weird stuff they can get away with in BritComs like Red Dwarf. It's a shame the US audience didn't really embrace this show. I guess it was too different from what we have.
BTW, that was some nice psuedo-science at the end when the villan is stored on audiotape. - justinvt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This has been on the internet for many many years already. Anyway, this show could NEVER have been popular, anyone who says otherwise is being silly!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1its actually his wife, and she is smoking hot
- frankwit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Sweeth OG strikes again! Nice Find dude!
- orbitalleader, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1a ton. it was in their first version years ago.
