Sure that is trivial for a program to test for HTML entities and decode them, but I am betting on the path of least resistance. I am hoping that they don't want to waste the CPU cycles to deal with anything beyond trivial because they are still harvesting 90% of the emails they come across. i took a class this winter and making an email harvester was the first (and our easiest) project.
We had like a week and were able to catch probably those 90% you speak of. The way you can represent an email address in text hasn't changed much in the last 20 years, spammers have the advantage in every way. All email harvesting still represented as plaintext is trivial.
