- MisterCookie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9For absolutely no reason whatsoever, iTunes reports that it's missing the file to a song of mine, even though its in the library folder and plays in WinAmp. It honestly feels like the Songbird nightlies are more stable than this.
- MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9It's pretty clear that Apple was more concerned about getting the new iPods and making their launch date out than making sure that iTunes worked properly. Since the iTV isn't even ready and there's still no real video iPod, I don't really see why they felt compelled to launch a half-baked iTunes update.
- dmoney06, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Mine works perfectly. *knock on wood*
- Kazbaeden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'll wait for version two.
Wait a minute.... - zmigliozzi, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8no problems here
- KeyLimePie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I usually wouldn't mind a few snags here in there in a new release but the problems here are very significant. I can't add 8 or more files to my library at any one time. It's reorganised my music then 'lost' it. It crashes my iPod. The random crackles. the list seems to keep growing.
- ReCkLeSsX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6My itunes is... fine...
- hankosky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I have been useing i tunes 7 on my work pc, my home pc, and my laptop and have had no issues yet what so ever. I am really enjoying the new features like the album art browser.
- Chestnut3499, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I can't even get 7 to install correctly. AND now my iPod doesn't work correctly now.
- returnofmalv, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yes, I guess Apple developers don't write bugs.
- coolbru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well, I'd agree that it 'works'. Much like notepad 'works' as a word processor.
- kuri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I like the last line's advice (in-article).
Don't release it if it's not done. How about if GM releases a new model of a 7/10 completed car to the market? Yeah. - neuropsychguy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Buried for being a duplicate. We've seen this story at least 4 times already.
- GrizzlyAdams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No problems here either but I'm in OS X. Is it possible these problems are specific to the Windows port?
- geekgod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not seeing anything major here as well on a 800 mhz powerpc g4 iMac
Although the album flipper thingie is useless on this slow of a machine. - thekak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've only seen improvements on my end.
- davidod87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dude. It's just ***** software. Sorry that I didn't read *all* the comments here. I have a habit of viewing comments of +5 digs for pages with 70 comments and +10 digs for 100+.
Anyway, my system is an obscure custom built mchine and I haven't encountered any of issues mentioned during my constant use of it since released.
Let me also mention that it's completely ***** retarded that Apple would not add search to the older 5G iPods, yet they *did* add the fast scroll thiny (as if that's a feature, but anyway). - jsalame, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don´t know if any of you, had this problem also i just figure it out yesterday. Of couse, i get the skipping of the song, specially when someone signs in on the Windows Live Messenger. But the other thing is that while playing songs in my Itunes, i also opened the Windows Media Player to see a video and the sound of my songs garbles a lot.
Apple, send some patches quickly!!!! - ioannusdeverani, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@redxii: I hope you are making a funny..... While Apple does make awesome software, it is a tad dogmatic to say what you did in any context other than humour..... :)
- oxyrubber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ok so you either haven't found any problems YET, or your system configuration had been thoroughly tested before iTunes 7 was released. Some of us, unfortunately, didn't get that lucky. These issues are a little too widespread to write this off on user error.
Either way, there's no need to (1) duplicate the same comment at least 4 users have posted or (2) rag on other users as if it was their fault iTunes does not work as smoothly on their system. Just wait for Apple to start seeing enough complaints and investigating the solutions/fixes.
Just for that, I curse you with the fleas of a thousand camels! (just for the weekend). - kfsutops, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ davidod07
You're not kidding about the searth feature. I was trying to figure out all day if it works on my older 5g. That is so freakin stupid.
But hey, I guess they need to make you "upgrade" for some stupid reason right??? - anthonyretro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The thing is this usually happens every time they release a new iTunes. Any iTunes x.0 always has some x.01 at least within the next three days. At least that's what I've noticed. Bugs will be fixed soon as they always will becaused they rushed the release as they always do.
- dentz1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It is using about 300Mb of ram.... but everything else seems fine.
- redxii, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I'm glad you agree.
- brandonking, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Apple fanboys bury this story (tagging it inaccurate) in 3... 2... 1...
- izzajoker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the images in the album browse mode make it perform a little slower, but other than that, no complaints here.
- Tawni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have yet to have any problems. could be that I'm just lucky.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, they're digging down every comment where a user states they have a problem. Typical fanboy ***** "If we can't see the comments then they're not real, La la la la la" (with fingers in ears).
Welcome to the real world apple fanboys! Your fav company doesn't give a ***** about you any more than MS does about its users, and its software is even more buggy. - Keloran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1im wondering if its just windows iTunes that doesnt work, because "iTunes just works on a mac" is not a good selling point
oh and it works fine on my MiniMac ftr - mc4_a, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The homepage dupes are getting really out of hand.
- oxyrubber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1iTunes is reasonably well-thought-out. I would like to see better features for searching and tag-updating (REGEX PLEASE). does kind-of blow. They released it before some key bugs were worked out, reminding me of that other OS-company that releases updates too often and needs patches for patches for updates.
Apple still has a track record for having high quality products (hardware and software), although I would definately not call this first attempt at iTunes 7 a high quality product. It feels a little more like a "just get it out there and update it again in a few weeks" management decision. I like the new album organization views, but I am sorely disaapointed with performance (you should be able to turn off some of the performance hog features) and audio/video bugs (this is kind of the central feature of an audio/video player/organizer).
Unfortunately, they do not store back-versions of their software... although www.oldversion.com does [edit: DID]. I hope I can scrounge an old 6.x version installer off of one of my computers. - jaredvolkl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I haven't looked at the ram consumption on my PC, but I do know I just bought a Core 2 Duo, have it overclocked quite a bit (7x390 atm and probably higher soon), and iTunes 7 still brings my system to a halt. Every time I plug in my iPod it attempts to check the gapless information on about 5000 out of my 8500 songs.
- chewy5000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why bother going round saying "read it...old...boring...crap"
Just digg it down and leave.
As Napoleon Dynamite would say "gosh" - oxyrubber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Edit: [agree with ioannusdeverani above]. ALL programmers are capable of writing bugs.
Typically Apple is smart enough to allocate enough time or extend deadlines if software is not ready, but I get the feeling they wanted to release iTunes at the same time as when they released news of the new iPods and the other goodies they announced this week.
iTunes 7 is just barely above my threshold of buggy before I uninstall programs. I had a hell of a time moving my music library from an older computer to a new computer last night... it does not handle importing quite as smoothly as it used to. Songs do not queue if it is processing an import already (or at least it used to respond better while importing). - chewy5000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1macs can get the 'symphonic flu' as i like to call it
- chewy5000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1WMP 11 has nearly all the features of iTunes 7, its just hard to understand. i dont want to try and tame the 'library'
i'm all go for iTunes 6. It caters for my needs (which are to listen to music FULL STOP) - davidod87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, it's like they leave they leave these little scraps as insentive for upgrading.
Ok. I'm going to be honest: the September 12th event was totally retarded. The upgrades mentioned were not worthy of like, an entire event. The iMac upgrades a few days earlier could've got an equally important event. Jobs kept going on and on in too much detail. I don't *need* a ***** explanation of gapless. Nobody in the audience did.
Anyway, I'm like, morbidly drunk right now. SERIOUSLY. - oxyrubber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Keloran
I would be more willing to bet that Apple had more QA testers working on Macs than on Windows boxes. Just because we use Windows boxes doesn't mean we are inempt... just willing to put up with less refined software (and... until recently... cheaper hardware).
This is coming from a die-hard Mac-er who converted to WinAMD to play more games. - shortduderay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think iTunes 7 works OK, but it messed up my iPod when I updated it with iTunes 7... :( Luckily, I used an older version of the iPod software, so my iPod is saved.
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I had a similar problem with Quicktime, when ever iTunes was playing, and something opens quicktime in Firefox, the sound screwed up (It was either silent, and iTunes played back badly, or the video was silent, till I paused iTunes). Quite annoying at times, but I just hit hte pause button on my keyboard and it works fine. Not tried it..
I've had no problems with iTunes 7, other than one song playing badly (worked fine after I paused/played again).. Memory usage is 30mb just now minimized to the tray
Anyway, whats new about new versions of software causing complaints?
- Ben
{I've only used iTunes 7 on PC, haven't updated the Mac version yet) - chewy5000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1they've already updated (very minor) and it still doesn't work
- davidod87, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Meanwhile, the total number of problems I've encounterd: 0
What's wrong with you people? - oxyrubber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0kuri
Companies DO release cars that are a little over 7/10 done. It's scary as crap, but meeting deadlines is pretty important for some corp. execs. Example: my friend's brother bought the first year of the first generation Saturn SUV: 24 warranty repairs (each on a different part) in 18 months. He couldn't quite get it to qualify for Lemon Law. I hate it, but capitalism works in mysterious ways... sometimes to the extreme benefit of the consumer and sometimes far from it.
The consensus seems to be that some users experience NO problems whatsoever and other users seem to have massive conflicts with their systems.
It's possible that Apple's QA was not able to test configurations that are getting conflicts/bugs and released it thinking that the sofware was stable and bug-free because it was on their test machines. ... just a hypothetical. - oxyrubber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@zybch
I am not a fanboy (of Apple or any company).
Apple tends to make high quality software (and products in general). That has always been the reasoning behind paying more for an Apple than an equivelent Wintel box.
It also seems to be that some users have absolutely no problems... and some are encountering many bugs/issues. When Apple finally admits the issue, this will be resolved. Apple tends to own up to their problems 10 times more and 4 times faster than MS, so don't even try that comparison. IMHO, Apple did release this version (in classic MS fasion) without fully testing enough configurations, but that it will take a couple of ginormous screw-ups for Apple to fall to the MS level of hatred among its users.
Unfortunately, many people on Digg (and this is certainly not limited to Apple fanboys) tend to "thumbs down" and bury articles/comments that they do not agree with or understand. It sucks that it happens, but that's the online community for you. - oxyrubber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@D14BL0
Why not let him plug his blog here? It's very relevant. Since Apple hasn't owned up to the fact that some users are having problems, users are finding out from other users' experience. If it keeps one user from losing his collection or upgrading without enough RAM/CPU speed, all the more power to him.
Then again, some people just don't like the blogging community. I suppose you can't really prevent them from spreading their grumpy attitudes. - guywelch2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just rolled back to version 6 after many hours wrangling with iTunes 7.0 and syncing issues with my 5th generation iPod. I love all the new features... its just not as fast and stable as it needs to be. When I need to download and sync podcasts before hopping in the car, I don't need to wrestle with software/hardware issues for 20 minutes.
- oxyrubber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The large RAM usage is usually attributed to viewing the album art scroller. IMHO, it is a mistake to allow your program to use that much RAM (even if it is available) to just play/organize music and videos. Before iTunes, I would have a fit if MPC or Winamp used more than 5 megs of RAM (and I have 4GB BTW so don't call me cheap). This is just a mis-allocation of one of the computer's most valueable resource.
And the gapless process occurs everytime you import songs, so it adds quite a bit to import time. I didn't poke around too much, but it seems like gapless is an option you can turn off. - oxyrubber, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Apparently you have not read the EULA that applies to WMP.
You should use something less restrictive... like "Media Player Classic" (not made by Microsoft). It's not bloatware, does not send you to some advertisement as soon as it loads, and is a VERY tiny footprint. Also, it typically comes as an installation option if you get K-Lite codec pack or one of the other large-distribution codec packs floating around.
iTunes is a media organizer as well as a music/video player. It is meant to do more than make a single playlist.
Thumbs up to coolbru! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2This story has been on the front page every day for almost a week now. We know, people. iTunes blows. Get over it.
- Louisd11, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I thought that, that was my computer, I guess not.
