- Evoguy, on 10/12/2007, -11/+42Oddly enough.. MS Media Center... still out, still doing HD, still more functionality (DVR), still streaming to any Xbox360 hooked up to a TV.
- cgomez, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Ouch for Apple. I miss the days of "and it ships today."
Maybe this will give them time to bring HD video to the iTunes Store? Not bloody likely, but one can dream. - srobbin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23Didn't they just deny those claims just two weeks ago?
http://digg.com/apple/Apple_denies_report_of_Apple_TV_delays - MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14hey, if this thing ONLY plays stuff off itunes, wouldnt it be easier & cheaper to get a XBMC (or 360) and pirate what you want ?
- nxusername, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16I'm a big Apple fan, but I could care less as most people should. Until it's a DVR, it's worthless.
- Petarded, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11How long until it runs Doom?
- illegal_op, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Yeah, real high system requirements ... pft
* Broadband Internet connection (cable, DSL or similiar) required
* Windows XP or higher (Windows Media Center Edition 2005 is recommended)
* Pentium III, 700MHz processor (1GHz recommended).
* 256 MB RAM
* Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher (Internet Explorer 7 beta not currently supported)
* Windows Media Player 10 recommended (Windows Media Player 9 required) download here.
* QuickTime 7 is required for QuickTime video playback (download here)
* Minimum of 1GB of free hard drive space is recommended (in order to store media files) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17Apple CARESabout its customersso much that they want to make it perfect!
Right? I mean, when Sony, or Microsoft have delays, it is "There's another screw up by a compnay that is on a downward spiral" But when it is Apple it is "It COULD have been released on time, and been 99.99999% perfect. But Steve doesn't want to disappoint his beloved customers." - ThatsUnpossible, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10No, it plays anything you can view in iTunes, not just stuff from the iTunes media store.
And let's see, is it easier to subscribe to 24 in iTunes and have the new episodes automatically downloaded and waiting on the Apple TV, or is it easier to search for new episodes on bittorrent sites manually and download them as they become available, and hope that the media companies aren't going to sue me for copyright violations down the road?
Also, the reason many of us wouldn't use MCE + Xbox is because we (a) don't like using Windows, and (b) don't own an Xbox. So instead of buying a PC with Windows PC and an Xbox, we can just buy an Apple TV and extend our Macs. Got it? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9You overpaid. LOL.
- Evoguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8... the Apple TV requires a computer to function too! Why does everyone just conveniently ignore that fact?
- SilverSpoon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Steve Jobs: "*****...get cover flow on the iPod to distract them!"
- aristotle0dude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Don't you mean 10.5 Leopard? 10.4 is Tiger.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Perhaps there's a new OS-related update they'll need to include?... feh.
- jasonwea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@evoguy
The requirements page over at http://www.apple.com/appletv/specs.html say Mac OS X v10.3.9 or Windows XP Home/Professional (SP2) are the minimum OS requirements. - DPowers08, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7A simultaneous release of the Apple TV and Leopard wouldn't be bad.
- Evoguy, on 10/12/2007, -10/+14Wait.. you guys do realize the AppleTV doesn't work without an actual computer running OSX right? Where is this $300 figure coming from? If you're going to include the cost of the Windows PC into the MCE option, then you need to include the cost of your Mac as well.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+15yeah. Which is why absolutely NO ONE but the most pathetic and the pathtic fanboys are talking about this thing.
- easy4lif, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Looks like rumors site thinksecret was right after all. My order still says ships feb 28 but if you order right now it says mid march. I know there's a big post on the apple disscussion boards about the shipments being delayed from a few weeks back. I'm sure this won't help matters now.
they better give out something as a sorry for not shipping on time gift. heck, I won't mine an upgrade on shipping - astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5You Microsofties crack me up.
Yes Broomet, a two WEEK delay in Apple's brand new hardware accessory is just like the one YEAR delay in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, and it's just like the THREE YEAR delay in Vista, Microsoft's flagship product. It's exactly the same thing. - nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Jesus, calm down kids they're different things entirely! If you have a 360 then it's a no brainer. If you don't have, don't want, or just aren't getting a 360 for any reason then maybe the ATV is a better choice. Just make up your own minds don't worry about what anyone else wants. You're not going to change anyone's mind.
- dasluvaluva, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Well, yes, but I think it'll play any Mpeg (h264) file you have in your library. Which means you can still pirate, but you'll have to convert.
Same thing with the xbox. You can pirate, but you gotta convert to WMV. - schoate09, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I do miss Apple's "And it ships today too". But seriously, the media area, I'd much rather have Microsoft. MCE>Front Row, and I know straming to my 360 isa helluva lot easier, plus, a 360 is $100 more than an Apple TV, and can kick the heck out of it in overall processing. Plus it's a game system.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5They haven't hit *MY* card yet, and I ordered the first day it was available.
- mabhatter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1in January they said February... that was 25 days ago!!!
- huntrm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I bemoan the Apple iTV - give me my HTPC. I love the concept, and look forward to V2, or V3 - but for now, not the power I need or funtionality (e.g., high-def and playback of .IFO)
- methodshop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the customer service letter i got from the Apple Store, explaining the delay, is some of the most uninformative collection of words ever assembled. "wrapping up" took "a few weeks longer" than expected? what the hell does that mean?
- easy4lif, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5yea, it might have to do with this + compatabilty with vista & Leapord.
anyone of these or all of these could be the cause. - Rice, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I hate to say it... but why does anyone care about the Apple TV?
Hell, the iPhone isn't much...
...compared to what will be Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard!!! Bah ha ha! - BWhaler, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I just hope the quality is good. I don't mind the delay as long as Apple delivers a quality product.
I'm a big Apple fan and customer, but I will be the first to say Apple's quality has gone to ***** nowadays. Crappy laptop screens, heat problems on portables, poor fit and finish in manufacturing. This is not the Apple of 6 years ago whose survival depended on every detail being the best in the market.
I just hope they remember the AppleTV is going to be in the living room, where we expect the consumer electronics level of quality, not the Windows PC level. - rigormortisrob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yep, my date changed from shipping on the 28th to March 20 :(
- Pharoah6905, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Confirmed:
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=A6F22F8A&nclm=AppleTV
says it "ships mid-march" - jgustie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2my BoA card still hasn't been charged... my order status on the Apple Store has been updated to ship on March 20 though
- FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8I wonder if i will run Linux?
- stalky14, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Is it a Sony? A lot of Sony CRT projectors will take both RGBHV and Component (YPrPb) on the same BNC connectors.
You just tell it what mode to be in. - stalefries, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3There's this word in the bottom right of your comment, it looks like this:
[reply]
try clicking it when you want to reply to that person's post, like I am right now. - flibisk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Are you stupid? I think you must be because you completely missed the point. Apple tv does not need a DEDICATED computer it just needs access to a library on a network! (which can be created via plugging up a harddrive to an airport or other GOOD router)which is UNLIKE microsofts crappy win ***** media centre and MORE like other devices like IAMM NTD36HD Media Player or even the upcoming sling box. God sometimes you really do have to repeat yourselves to complete retards! Get a brain "evoguy" you typical retarded win user and that goes for anyone that dugg him up becasue you all clearly don't have a clue about computing of gadgets either.
- Juntistik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'll just stick to XBMC, thats all I will need.
- aspirinetu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2ok. negative comments about you then
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Non-blog link: http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=technologyNews&storyid=2007-02-26T212440Z_01_N26235636_RTRUKOC_0_US-APPLE-TV.xml&src=rss
- illegal_op, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7If you have windows mce or vista and an xb360 then it really would be a total waste of money. I use mine to watch diggnation and dl.tv with http://www.tvtonic.com it's a must have for easy content aggregation on the 360. It also has a sweet old cartoon channel.
- themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2The real question is: When is Leopard coming out?
- astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2You can tell how poorly Microsoft is doing in a particular space by the level of idiocy their Microsofties spew. The people have already spoken. They don't want MCE.
iTunes will keep whatever media you put into it. In 2004 I moved my music collection off my linux server and into use iTunes because in 2004 it was the best software for the job, on any platform. I now keep all of my DVD rips in iTunes as well because it's a great way to organize things.
WMP11 might be up to par by now, I don't know. But what I do know that Microsoft is predictably late to the party once again with their iTunes clone, regardless. For people who use iTunes to manage their media, which is most people, Apple's iTunes extender is looking increasingly attractive, considering it's not even released yet, particularly to bring the music collection and the iTunes interface to living room. - jasonwea, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Unfortunately for me, the Apple TV only supports HDMI and component for video output. Even if I wanted one of these devices I couldn't use one. My CRT projector has RGB inputs only.
It's all irrelevant anyway. My workstation is a Mac but my HTPC is a MythTV box. - easy4lif, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3its now been updated to march 20th.
- tsunamisteve, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1i don't think leopard will be a requirement but it should be out by mid-march.
- stalefries, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4I really hope Leopard comes out soon, I'm waiting on it to buy my Macbook.
- patience, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Fanboys: Ready to be beta testers!
Or are you going to wait till 2009 when the first bug free version is realeased. - MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6I really hate it when "compnays" don't live up to what they say.
Does being such a Microsoftie make it impossible to spell long enough to be insulting?
I couldn't care less about the Apple TV as it's very much an incomplete solution, but you are indeed a loon. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Shoot, so how long is the iPhone delayed?
