- Tracon, on 10/10/2007, -3/+70I want to pirate anti-pirate software thus making me a pirate squared.
- avonwodahs, on 10/10/2007, -2/+37Why buy it on Ebay when you know it'll be a .torrent in about a week?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+33anti_pirate_technology[2007].[Eng]-aXXo.torrent
- mojoel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+27Only DYING pirates say "AARRGGGG!" I think the work you're looking for is "YARRRR!"
- rupprupp29, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26The title should read "Anti-Piracy Technology For Sale on eBay for $1m - L@@K!! RARE!!! NR!!!!!!!!!11"
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+22You can't stop file sharing, and that program is just like media defenders (who failed miserably).
- sirdaz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Maybe they can see that DRM or any other corrupting methods just aren't going to work much longer, so they sell up, grab the cash while they can.
- rancidpony, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14Possibilities?
- Destroy your product
- Don't create any product
- Destroy all of humanity
- Make your product really crappy
- Include the word "goatese" in the name of your product
- Give your product away for free
- Release product into the public domain
- Ha-Ha It wasn't piracy to start with fool! It's "copyright infringement".
... - macaddct1984, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11The ebay auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1 ... - Lorddias, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9The .rar was corrupt? What the hell this thing took three days to download.
- AnotherBrian, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8The only way this would be interesting is if they found a way to generate hash collisions form any hash value, a holy grail of encryption research (ie., not bloody likely). Sure they can modify an open source p2p client to send a good hashes or modify the packet on the fly to trick others into downloading from them. However, this kind of crap is EASILY detected by other clients and that IP is banned. (This is assuming that the p2p programs are actually using a CRYPTOGRAPHIC hash function.)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash_collision - munky100, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Its certainly a good day for ebay, anyone seen this? http://tinyurl.com/yw3tlg
- bctrainers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Relisted eBay page: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item ...
- autoton, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9It is highly unlikely that ViralG can do what they claim. A quick search on google popped out some interesting Finnish law suits against ViralG... seems like they have a troubled past with the technology and just want to make a quick buck from an uninformed buyer. I also found a blog entry (http://www.freedom-to-tinker.com/index.php?p=801) by Ed Felten (a Computer Science Professor from Princeton University) who voices his skepticism towards the technology. Who knows whats going on behind the scenes but I hope no one is dumb enough to pay ViralG any money for this without very careful investigation.
- uptown, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Just make every game like Daikatana and nobody will pirate it....
- icsbase, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Viralg can't contaminate (broke the hash numbers of) files. Their program was based on doing fake files to mainly Kazaa and similiar networks. It didn't work on Bittorrent. Now they are selling because they want the money to pay bills.
- sirber, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4They have the Technology to prevent that ;)
- Riffraffs, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5if this did work, about three days later there would be a new p2p that would eliminate this "poisoning"
- dimplemonkey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Assign Ahmadinejad as head of the RIAA.
- sexybobo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3screw there own island. this is what piratebay should buy. who better to own the patents of this then the very people it is tried to be using against. i bet this is probable the same program media defender uses and i bet thepiratebay could find a way to sue media defender from using this.
- JohnnyXmas, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5How about take your MILLION DOLLARS and MAKE YOU PRODUCT NOT SUCK!!! You'll find many, MANY people are more than willing to spend the money on your product if it surpasses their expectations. I'm pretty sure a million ***** dollars would be a nice start for helping you improve your apparently crappy software.
- bearda, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but their patent disclosure makes it sound like there's nothing to this. Their entire IP sounds like it's based on "put fake files on a P2P network, but make sure the hash values are the same." Is there something more interesting going on here that I'm missing?
- mewainwr, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4For all the criticism it gets, I still like steam in that I can buy the product and download it a million times and always be up to date with it. I don't mind buying products on that, but when I lose cds / dvds and they get scratched over the years and just want to play my games it gets old real quick.
- terminal157, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2From the auction:
"Examples of business opportunities using Viralg's technology include:"
"3. If your business is involved in developing and/or selling a P2P program, you can make it better and avoid any problems that this technology can give to your network."
One of their selling points is that their million dollar technology can be defeated. Classic. - markthegoth, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3am I the only one who thought that the headline sounded like something from the a team?
- alexkorova, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Damn, accidentally dugg you down (my mouse is wonky), could anyone digg Tracon up for me?
- TheRealPod, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Excerpt:
"Hired goons use pirate IP addresses to systematically make all the 13 year olds wet their pants after their doors get kicked in. Piracy is no longer a problem, fugetaboutit! - moxley, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Is there any person or corporation stupid enough to shell out 1m for something that (assuming it even works at all at the outset) will be overcome by technology within a week or so?
- buddamus, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Should buy it, I am sick of people sharing my Tim Curry albums
- grawity, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1if ( diskIsInserted() ) { run(); } else { *****(); exit(); }
- picsectionpleez, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1we have no piracy in the us. who told you that we did?
- micromause, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1There is only one way to stop it, kinda. Communism. Even then you can share, but you might get killed by the state. =P But GOOD thing we live in the USA the Land of the Free right?.....RIGHT?...... =P
- toggo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Is the Torrentfreak site broken for anyone else? Like the style sheet is only half loading?
- gnarfel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0But what happens when the anti-piracy software is cracked and starts appearing on bittorrent trackers so every tom, dick and harry can make their programs foolproof?!?
- ichauffeur, on 11/01/2007, -0/+0file sharing is unstoppable.
- raid517, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Sorry to pipe in with everyone else. But ***** yea, the ony way to beat these guys is to play them at their own game. Someone needs to pirate this anti-piracy software and do it quickly. Where are media-defender defenders when we need them?
- lostcny, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1how loud can you scream *****!
- Travelsonic, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1How is it top secret if people know about it now?
- directive0, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2HEY COULD U TELL ME HOW 2 DOWNLOD??!!!!? Does this work on PAL???

- Botrax, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2We could buy it to then destroy it.
- saggygrandma, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2anti-piracy-software@yahoo.com rare email address only $20,000
- Teaboy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1It won't work with Torrents anyway.

- pnig, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1oh aXXo... my favorite source for pirate movies.
- TomP, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Its probably MediaDefender software lol
- alsutton, on 10/10/2007, -8/+5True, but you've got to remember that the Nigerian 411/419 scammers have to go somewhere, so now they're going for "My name is Ambuto Puntega, I represent a company which has a fool proof Anti Piracy solution, if you would like to deposit $7million into my bank account I can give you the details...." :) :) :)
- qwerty121, on 10/10/2007, -7/+0It would make me laugh if this was pirated and released.
It wouldn't be good advertising for the company. -
