- rickbar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37I'm from Perth and I've had a hover car for years. What's the big deal?
- TexMachina, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28Hey look! I found a whole parking lot full of hover cars nearby!
http://maps.google.com/?t=k&ll=-32.137582,115.763717&spn=0.002807,0.004141
Now mind you, in a parking lot side by side with all the added perspective missing from the other hover car photos this link might lead you to think these are just dark cars parked next to light cars and that the other hover cars are the same damn thing... but ignore that and let's just pretend Australia has a booming hover car industry. - carguy84, on 10/12/2007, -6/+31Ohhh a shadow, 6 more weeks of winter.... :(
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12It's a Transformers robot.
- joshrt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I love how people are burying comments degrading this. Seriously, do you REALLY think it's a flying car? I could see if it was in Area 51 or something, but c'mon. These are PUBLIC places. I'm sure someone walking down the street would be like "Damn, somethings off about that car..". Please, adjust your tinfoil hats and move along.

These guys found it, not the other site. - joshduck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9There's no need to pretend. We just don't want to share our hover cars with the rest of the world.
- Jolene, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7My gods!!! A city called "Cockburn".... I don't even want to know how they came up with that name...
- TexMachina, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7If you look up the site in Google Earth you will find another car with a strikingly similar shadow just Northeast of the hover car. Only this "shadow" does not line up with the nearby car like the first shadow.
Whatever these objects are I don't think they are shadows at all. - thiagoleite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7it's not likely to have secret hovering cars driving around a common neighboorhood
- serra, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I don't even see how anyone could think that is a car in the first place!
- florin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6This is not a flying car. It is a swarm of butterflies, or the planet Venus at sunset, or marsh gas burning spontaneously. Anything but a flying car. By the way, no people were abducted and no cows were mutilated, ever, by these flying cars... er... I mean swarms of butterflies. Ever.
Now move along people, nothing to see here. - capn_caveman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Damn Aussies.... keeping the cool crap to themselves...
- largobargo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6This is really lame! If you look at the other shadows, they don't match up with a supposed hovering car's shadow. The shadow would need to be moved a little further south to be correct.
- erudite, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11Do you actually think anybody really believes it's a hovering car? Get a sense of fun/humour or stop posting...
- kimos, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Can't anyone else tell that these are signs? You can't see the post because it's UNDER THE SIGN!
- AHIGHERGOD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Just a glitch in the MATRIX.
- P0W3RMAC, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I love these stories about mysterious objects snapped by Google maps.
I honestly don't know what the object is but its crazy cool.
[PM] - valis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+310 seconds later the 'flying car' which in fact was a drunk driver ramping off the curb smashes into the ground and explodes. *s*
- kiddailey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Um... there were links to the Google map page and to the Google Earth KMZ file :)

And the first floating car if you want to see it as well:

http://www.theregister.com/2006/01/23/flying_car.kmz - tekmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5A black car parked next to a white car?! Who'd've thunk it?!!
- joshrt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That's one road I'd never drive on.
- shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4People went to investigate. The last one was just a bench.
- erudite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Perth invented the hovering car! We invented it! What have you done, naysayers? Nothing! You've done nothing! Nothing! And Perth will be a monkey's uncle if you you ruin this for us! Because if you can't get the job done, then I will! Die, you naysaying scum!"
- msgmsg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4first of all, they "Dust & Scratches"'ed this thing too much... the original image is at flyingglobe.
Also, look at the nearby freeway... all the black cars look like the "shadow".
Fun to think about, but fake. - tafkase7en, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Thank you...some people are ridiculous.
- jbond03, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3eh i dont see it
- datter, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Optical illusion... dark car, parked next to light car.
- magebomb11, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4tex, the great debunker.
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's just a black car next to a white one...
- JohnWPB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Guys PLEASE, it is a puddle of water! Look directly behind the "Floating car" about 20 feet away, and you will see another puddle of water, and no car casting a "shadow" to make that one.....
- reversial, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"If it's not just a black car parked next to a white car, then I predict it's just Photoshopped."
Yep, because those guys at Google spend their time hiding little Photoshop easter eggs in places like Cockburn, just for people to waste time wondering what they are. Hmm. - mbiesz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If someone's going to actually take the time to write an article about a "hovering car" perhaps they should perform at least some elementary analysis of the supposed shadow? Like ... the fact that it doesn't slant at the same angle as any of the real shadows? Just a thought.
- nhansen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3first, what a lame article...second, "The Google service has spawned a group of devoted followers who scour the satellite images for strange sightings." Wow, why not give some credit to your source....
- nilobject, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Billboard, perhaps? These images all show "hovering cars" where no cars are parked but where a billboard would unsurprisingly be found.
- Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wish I had some way of knowing what their image update schedule is. If I did, then on the day my house was going to be photographed, I'd go create an optical illusion of a UFO or something sitting on my lawn. Imagine the web frenzy when someone discovered it.
- brandizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd hate for my claim to fame to be finding a car that looked like it had a shadow.
- signal15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I drive by this thing everyday. However, the first "flying car" found on Google maps was investigated. It turns out it was at the edge of a park or something, and there was no car on a pole. I wonder what this site looks like.
And, they shadows might actually line up just fine in this pic. It depends on how high this "flying" car was. BTW, did anyone stop to consider it might be the Aussie version of the Dukes of Hazzard? - eelsid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Could be a car on a post also. There is a car with a statue of a woman standing in it mounted high on a steel post off I-94 in Minneapolis, northwest of downtown, on the west side of the freeway. I can't remember exactly where it is and couldn't get a good enough res on Google maps to find it though.
- dukem72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's a hotdog stand people. ;-)
- Areku, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, not much else to do at 2 AM on a weekday. *shrug*
- Sonic84, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3could it be a car on a sign pole? I know of a few businesses that gut a car and stick them up in a sign poll. It attracts attention anyway.
- Areku, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4The shadow from the 'hovercar' doesn't line up like the shadows of other objects around it, like the trees and buildings. If it's not just a black car parked next to a white car, then I predict it's just Photoshopped.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thats so friggin FAKE
- Areku, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I downloaded the KMZ file for Google Earth to look at this bad boy closer. I've been staring at the white object for about twenty minutes, and I don't think it's actually a car at all. Close up, the image gets very blurry, but there still seems to me to be a definite structure of three seperate white pieces... which from far away, resembles a white car like in the adjacent parking lot. But the third white section (the most northward end) seems to slant eastward ever so slightly, which would imply the car has a crooked end or something. The white object isn't perfectly parallel to the black object in general, which rules out the possibility of a shadow altogether. The black spot may be a car or dumpster, but I think this supposed white car is a grouping of trash cans or other smaller objects that when seen very blurred from far away (like the picture) resembles a white car.
- skit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No doubt it's a black car next to a white car. The area is Coogee Beach which can get quite popular at times. Take a look at the car park, mostly full. Seen many a car park up near the entrance. :)
- erudite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Kudos to all the muppets giving this enough thought/time to come up with reasons it is not a hovercar. This is a story for the pub - it's like all the "real" ninja types who got upset with this site:
http://www.realultimatepower.net/index4.htm
People with IQs lower than their weight in kilos should be fined for posting anything. - trevorduke, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4i have seen a sign for a trailer park before that had a car at the very top of it. this could be the same type of thing...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3No, they arent signs. People have taken pictures (from the ground) of the locations, and there are no signs.
I suspect they are parachuters, or weather balloons - given how far the shadow is from the source, they would have to be flying pretty high. - ender52, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i think its a car parked next to something black and vaguely car shaped. Look around the area, there are lots of black patches that look as much like shadows as that does. Could be a pond, could be a bush...
