- TheWalkingDude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+69All he needs now is a two liter bottle of Shasta and his all-Rush mix tape.
- WeThePeople, on 10/12/2007, -2/+59Hey WTF, this guy has a wife, kids and all those games, collects toys from the 80's, flies toy helicopters and in his spare time writes software, plays music and does computer art? Where the hell does he get all his time?
And I thought you either had a wife and kids or all the games, not both!
Yeah sure,
Me: honey I want to convert the entire basement into an arcade with 50 games, It's going to cost a lot of money and time, OK?
Wife: HA HA HA HA HAA hhhaaa, thats a good one, man you crack me up, 50 games, the whole basement.....your so funny.
This guy is so lucky he must ***** gold, At least he must have an electric bill from hell. - retral, on 10/12/2007, -1/+40That's one basement you'd hate to see flooded.
- jokerr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+39You can have both wife/kids and games, you just can't play the games :)
- thebreeze, on 10/12/2007, -7/+42You think that's impressive? You should see his RealDoll collection.
- aguita, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21I take it you didn't notice that the photos were updated on 3/19/06.... :)
- PurpleMeteor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Fry: Alright! It's Saturday night, I have no date, a two-litre bottle of Shasta and my all-Rush mix tape. Let's rock! (from this episode: http://www.futurama-madhouse.com.ar/scripts/3acv18.shtml )
Well, this guy has a lot of machines but I bet he does not even have "Meteor Mess" ;) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Sweet. I see Dragon's Lair. I remember that game being featured on "That's Incredible!" (The 80's TV show).
- krschuerman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15wow...I barely remember last week let alone 393 days ago.
- ericmoritz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I love the classic carpet, sure brings me back, I can smell the crappy pizza.
- Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Wife. Kids. Rich enough to do this.
No, I don't think he's a loser. - teh_toaster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14http://www.duggmirror.com/links/An_Arcade_Lover_s_Dream_Basement/
Would this mirror somehow rip a hole in the space/time continuum? http://www.duggmirror.com.nyud.net:8080/links/An_Arcade_Lover_s_Dream_Basement/ - mage1129, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12sorry but not everyone here is a playstation baby. Some of us remember the good time had going to an arcade at the mall.
- gmikej, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I just need to ask...
How old are you? If you are under 25 or older than 50 than you just wouldn't understand. It's all about nostalgia. - teh_toaster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Oh no! That means I forgot that story's birthday!
- wizpig64, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12*drools*
- pondster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12You can do both - it just takes some smarts.
To help all my geek brothers out there who are also married, this is what you do.
Make sure you have at least 2 computers, 1 for you and 1 for her on a network with broadband.
Show her pogo.com and start playing some games with her to start her addiction. Pogo is a huge collection of games ranging in everything from canasta, solitaire to bowling, pool and even some ea games like need for speed, but keep her on the girlie games it has a large social area tied into it, she can chat - add friends to her list - a perfect spot to start your evil plan.
Once she starts getting into it, get her the pogo club subscription for like $26 a year so she can start on badges, she'll collect them like you collected Pokemon! lol
Once she's fully into it, she wont care what you play, just keep your addictions down to a minimum, you do have to spend time with her as well. My wife actually suggested we get an xbox 360! and she's ready for wii, i knew my plan had fully worked when a couple months ago I was way into a project and told me to stop my work and load up city of heroes again because I was working too hard. - liquilife, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12You screwed up the link. I would have expected more from the Dupe Police.
- ModernTenshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You can't be the experience of playing on the original machine though.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12hey look... the kid off of that movie "Blank Check" grew up...
- saska, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Man, there's just no sense of peril if you aren't down to your last quarter.
- MasterDwarf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Man, that was once my dream. Good to see it happen for someone. You just can't find arcades like that any more.
- saska, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7It's not that you can either have a wife or games. It's just that for many men, they seem to be able to only act married to one or the other.
- talor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The guys page is suspended, but his host says unlimited bandwidth. Just shows you how unlimited it really is, eh?
- lifeinanalog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I bet he doesn't. I'm sure there is a no drinks allowed on or near the machines rule. If they spilt could ruin the carpet!
- EquinnoxX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This guy has single-handedly rebuilt my childhood in his basement.
I love you man. - chad78, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5He's got at least TWO change machiens down there! CHANGE MACHINES for his own aracade! Couldn't he just leave the lockboxes open so he could use the same 4 tokens over and over again?
But anyway - that's freaking AWESOME! Double-plus good DIGG. - kupo19, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5it's more authentic this way. :)
- iamsjn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Thanks dude....
Didn't want to get involved in that pissing contest.... - jschrab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I have my 1980 Tempest machine that I won't part with until it turns to dust. Or the fly-back transformer fails, which ever comes first. This is very cool.
And to those that dis' him, really now, people collect far more meaningless and even MORE geeky things than coin op games. He loves 'em, it makes him happy - life is good. Moral: Find your thing and don't listen to anyone else.
But he really could use a Williams "Black Knight" pinball machine in there, just for variety... - 3dfxgamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Just one question where does his wife work and how can mine apply?
- DEEZED, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Mirror: http://www.peterhirschberg.com.nyud.net:8090/arcade/gameroom.htm
- Zegarek, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8@TheWalkingDude:
Is that a Futurama reference? I remember that quote from somewhere... +digg for you anyway. - XSforMe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"..either had a wife and kids or all the games, not both! "
Actually, you either have a wife or the games. The kids will stay with whoever has the games! (at least mine would).
In another line of thought, a cousin of mine (who is an architect) once told me a story about a couple who had their house built. The man asked my cousin to design the house however her wife wanted. Everything, except one room in the basement, which was to become "his turf".
And that my friend is how how you can get away with it. - mage1129, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Becuase it his his PERSONAL game room not a Dave and Busters or Jillians
- JibberJabber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Digg effect.
Here's a mirror.
http://d2.duggmirror.com/links/An_Arcade_Lover_s_Dream_Basement/ - m0nk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Wow, bet he throws killer parties...I'd love to get drunk and play games for hours....
- vgcf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6No arcade is complete without Galaga!
- madmathmatician, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4this guy is my HERO!
- MurphyWonKenObi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3WOW- Discs of TRON... I loved that game.....
- blakespot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3How about a retro computing lover's dream basement?
See my "Byte Cellar":
http://www.bytecellar.com/qtvr.html - bnoj13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@diecastbeatdown
don't even some of the 80's games he has in there cost thousands? - mattcoady, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Click on the picture with the amp and the router. Its some kind've wierd video.
- boinko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Now all he needs is an Orange Julius, a Spencer Gifts, and a Hickory Farms nearby.
- Greyarea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Oh.
My.
Gods!
As someone who is slowly - oh, so slowly - building a MAME table, I have to admire this guy. - Greyarea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Absolutely! Galaga and Battlezone were the main reason I had no money in the 80's :-)
Mind you, I could make 10p (one go) last for about 3hrs on Battlezone.
That's...that's actually quite sad, now I come to think about it... - gmikej, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Please make it a WINTER project and get out and enjoy the beautiful weather... us geeks need sun too.
*runs and ducks* - ModernTenshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Man that is cool. I've got a couple of Star Wars game cabinets made by Atari sitting in my basement (for Episodes IV and VI) that need to be refurbished and brought back to life. Perhaps it shall be a summer project . . . .
- rhettnyedotorg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Isn't it nice to see a total Geek, a complete Nerdbomber, overachieve in such an ultimately geeky way?
The whole world should know about this guy. Lets put him on Entertainment Tonight.
ET's Mailbox: http://et.tv.yahoo.com/celebrities/mailbox/submit/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3God bless this room & everyone who visits!
