- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -10/+117This was taken shortly before the manager came down to the floor and told everyone they'd got the addresses mixed up and have to start again.
- wonboodoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+64Warehouses are built in the middle of nowhere. Land is cheap so it costs less to build out than up. Plus it's much easier (and cheaper) to move cargo horizontally than vertically.
- ifonly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+58Sad.
- terrax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+53Does anyone see the ark of the covenant?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+50Amazon UK was so slammed that BOTH their warehouse people asked for a raise!
- FartyMcPooPants, on 10/12/2007, -1/+50You can see Amazon Nevada plant in full swing here

P.S. I found Waldo.... - benplanet, on 10/12/2007, -3/+48Wow! I wonder what Amazon US was like O.o
- GUESShimself, on 10/12/2007, -4/+45linking directly to the photo: good
using the term "amazing" in your description without the image actually being amazing: bad - mattsidesinger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41No, but HAS ANYONE SEEN MY KEYS?!?!
- ABadInAlbany, on 10/12/2007, -0/+34where are the slave masters racking whips? disappointment!

TAKIN' PICTURES - UltimaNut, on 10/12/2007, -9/+36What a waste of space. What happened to 'building a second floor'?
- DjDimitrious, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Seems like a good paintball arena to me...
- spac3m0nk3y, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22There is a whole pallet of Wiis back there. They said they didn't have any in stock!

Land? cheap? in the UK? I think you're very much mistaken. - brox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Pretty much the same, except they use Oompa-Loompas.
- se7en11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14@Lumiras
Kind of reminds me of Christmas at our house this year... *ducks* - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10"Wow! I wonder what Amazon US was like O.o"
The same, But with fatter people. - Vankalker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Here is a story about how Newegg.com operates from AnandTech. It has a ton of pictures.

Edit: while I was looking for the story Damhna beat me to the punch. ^^^^^ - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9And just that one woman doing all that work.....wow
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"Warehouses are built in the middle of nowhere."
This is in the UK.. The middle of nowhere doesn't exist in the UK. - rick2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7i wonder if my monitor was in there.
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Where's the Tostitos at?
- Daniel8802, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I think I found Santa's workshop! lol
- icenineiv, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I don't know, if you squint your eyes and tilt you head a little to the left he almost kinda sorta pulls it off.
OK, so I'm being nice. - se7en11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6My guess is this is just their top selling products. By not having a second floor or even layered racks, you can access products pretty quickly with just a shopping cart (from the picture) without having to worry about getting a forklift.
I use to work in a book distribution warehouse and we had a system of three-tiered racking system. Bottom layer was for fast moving product, middle for slower or extra quantities of bottom and top for slow moving or again to supply the bottom. - thcobbs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It's being looked after by TOP people.
- jschrab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Looks like the closing scene to Raiders of the Lost Ark only better lit:

- Snakedal337, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow, that's a lot cleaner than K-Marts back storage.... It actually looks like a half way decent place to work!
- MCwack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5any other cool shipping warehouse picstures like this??? i think its really cool
- granny2k5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It would be amazing to see how places like this run on a daily basis. I didn't think workers would have to go round and collect certain orders by hand.
- newtechfool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Because stock prices take the Christmas revenue into account in advance. In fact most retail/mail order businesses have a revenue peak in Q4 because of Christmas.
- timlopez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I worked at a Wal-Mart Distribution Center for 5 years. It's actually pretty amazing how things get shipped. The WMDC had 13 miles of conveyers though, and shipped out about 200,000 items a day. But, to be on topic - it's interesting to see behind the scenes on how this stuff works.
- upsidedork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So THAT'S where they put the Ark of the Covenant. The fools.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Amazon ship via Royal Mail for smaller items and Parcel Force for larger ones.
FedEx is known as BusinessPost in the UK. - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I thought they all rode Segways in there :(
- Gullop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I thought amazon was all robotised :/
Looks more like an inventory than a place for packing. - ahknight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Post a phone number for Amazon CS and see how much longer you like it. :)
I hate email CS. Hate. HateHateHate. - LastExile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can see my package from here.
- artofwar420, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6If you mean PS3 boxes, then yes.
- micah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I live in the same town as an Amazon distrubtion center. For the holiday rushes they bus in more employees from as far away as an hour. Also, they "outsource" some of the gift-wrapping to volunteers who can wrap packages to support an organization, a church, boy scouts etc. I wrapped some in November, it's crazy hot in there even when it's cold outside and it really is amazing.
The community is a really small rural community and when you go in (which is about as hard as getting on a plane these days) it's like you just stepped in another world it's really like going into willy-wonka factory. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2noted
- nobogeys217, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it would be cool to see a video of this place during the Christmas rush.
- serra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1These places are huge. The ones here in the US are as big as 3 football fields. But I still love working for Amazon.com Customer Service. :)
- bud38, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1People over use the word amazing. This is not amazing. impressive, maybe but amazing, no.
The grand Canyon is amazing. The Earth is amazing, some strains of marijuana are amazing. A picture of a warehouse is noting to ooh and ahh over. Unless your easily
amused. (it's a warehouse, it's supposed to be full of boxes and whatnot. if all the boxes were floating,
then it would be amazing. -
