- AriaStar, on 10/10/2007, -1/+34How long before eBay bans it?
- jeremymccurdy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22PayPal is crooked as *****, let's hope Amazon does a better job.
- AriaStar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18eBay banned its sellers from accepting payments through Google. They DO enforce this, and will ban you. eBay owns Paypal, and forces you to accept that instead.
- Absinthminded64, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20I would love to see PreyPal die!
- xero69, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15There are an awful lot of Amazon customers out there. It could catch on if the fees and customer service are better than Pay-Pal. Shouldn't be hard to beat Pay-Pal customer service, it sucks!!
- inactive, on 10/29/2007, -2/+17***** PAYPAL!!!!!
- liquidgraffiti, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Man, finally something other than freaking Paypal. I hate Paypal, and this from a person who has used it over 5 years because of feebay.
Paypal sucks and they do not care about their customers, much like ebay. - manx203, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11About time
- basye, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Nothing will rival PayPal as long as Ebay bans it from its auctions.
- jmpeagle, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9didn't google also launch a rival service?
- jollyholly, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Paypal has a stronghold on the market right now. I'm looking forward to this..
- dduardo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Why would someone want to switch from PayPal to Amazon's service if the rates are the same? Is Amazon trying to compete?
- DarkPrincess74, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Why? Because paypal is sketchy. I've never had a bad experience but I know of many people that have. Amazon is much more reliable and trustworthy. I know paypal is owned by ebay now so it may be all in the past but I would trust amazon more. Also Amazon will be easier to integrate with because they'll do it through webservices whereas paypal doesn't offer more than basic ways to integrate.
- HigherLogic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Apparently you've never used PayPal...I welcome Amazon for doing this, they, unlike Google, have a strong customer base (uh, what I mean by that is Amazon sells stuff like books and CDs, Google doesn't) and do auction-like things already. Wouldn't be hard for them, in fact, makes perfect sense!
- jerryparid, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Google Checkout
- IcerC, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5For Transactions >= $10:
* 1.5% + $0.01 for Amazon Payments balance transfers
* 2.0% + $0.05 for bank account debits
* 2.9% + $0.30 for credit card
For Transactions < $10:
* 1.5% + $0.01 for Amazon Payments balance transfers
* 2.0% + $0.05 for bank account debits
* 5.0% + $0.05 for credit card
Google is simple:
* 2% + $0.20 per transaction
*free (with adwords)
Still wish more stores would accept checkout... but anything to take on PayPal I am all for! - indicas, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5sounds interesting. hopefully they will give digital goods providers some protection because paypal does jack ***** for us. if you sell a digital good, you have absolutely zero protection.
ive had buyers purchase something, and 3 months later charge it back and there isnt a damn thing i can do to protect myself because of paypals policies. - kindrobot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4They have customer service? I was under the impression it was a series of prompts that ends with an auto-disconnect in combination with an inbox that auto-deletes all mail that matches a search criteria with the words "please help me" , "trouble", "response" or "where is my money?".
- p0tent1al, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3yeah but PayPal are just a bunch of con artists. The more competitors that step up, the better.
Honestly though, I would of like to seen google launch something that takes out PayPal, they could definitely do it, they just to either add features to Google Checkout, or launch something separate that can take it out. - ThreeDee912, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3BTW, eBay already banned Google Checkout...
- Corinthos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Fax us these 5 documents and you can have your money. What the hell, your an internet company, why can I not email you this stuff?
Plus I don't know how to use a fax machine. Probably never will. - SteveNojobs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Best news I heard all week. Paypal needs more competition.
- bridow, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4ahh this makes sense. i was just bitching about amazon not taking paypal last nite.
- fpcyber, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3GREAT! This I can surely go for on my website. The fees suck however.
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+2Twice now they have frozen my account (and funds) and asked me to fax 3 forms of identification to them (photo I.D., bank statement and utility bill).
Worst bit of it all is not having to send it to them, it's figuring how to use the damn fax machine at work. People are amazed that 'someone like me' can't use a fax machine. I guess I'm not alone :)
Weird, chirpy, antique machines. E-mail FTW. - Duncan3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Why would it? They have the same insane fees anyway.
- thatsiebguy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They said the same garbage when GoogleCheckout came out. Nothing will rival PayPay because PayPal can be treated like a quasi bank account. Both GoogleCheckout and Amazon Flexpay are just checkout methods, and both require accounts with their parent services, neither of which can act like PayPal. This should be compared more with traditional CC checkout services. Funny, no one mentions Yahoo who had a checkout system long before PayPal.... FUD..
Oh.. and Amazon Flex pay is only limited Beta.. - unsolicited, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What is the quick and efficient way of transferring money from USA to India?
- PAPAsoMEAN, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1***** amazon needs to organize the site better
- zbeast, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I just hope that they will let you use the service to buy adult content something you can't do with PayPal .
- atbnet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I know your pain. They dispute and it's my thumb up my ass. Not a damn thing I can do.
- NocturnVitae, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Does Amazon accept PayPal?

- tinkafoo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Hey Jeff, bring back A3 and their BlockView HITS, then we'll talk.
- podgey22, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's not quite the same hog though... They just do a checkout service and payment handling rather than the whole online-bank-account thing that PayPal has going for it.
- murlox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Let's hope they won't have the same ***** customer service like PayPal does.
- slapded, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1holy ***** this idea isnt 10 years late
- chitoiup, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Die PayPal Die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Ethek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Has Amazon indicated if this service will follow industry banking regs?
- LR2_, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No, they don't.
- HigherLogic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What, you don't have a credit/debit card?
- dasuberdog, on 12/24/2007, -0/+0As for me, in the view of developer, GoogleCheckout sucks. In the view of a customer - PayPal sucks.
Amazon... Let's see, had no experience yet.
http://www.buyzillion.com - dcpweb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0google also have a payment gateway so now we have three excelent gateways to make and receive payments

p shah - http://www.dcpweb.co.uk - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I don't mind fees as much as being ***** by PP. They're like dealing with the IRS.
We need competition on ebay. - barmish, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Read the details about the Flexible Payment Service... This isn't actually a direct competitor to Paypal. FPS is meant for developers and basically has no limits as to what it can be used for. With FPS through its API payments can even go from computer to computer. Also features like micro-payments are totally cool... I think it will be really neat to see what creative ways developers will use this service in their products... This has the potential to be a whole lot more than just a "checkout" payment service.
- roblgs, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Give Moneybookers (moneybookers.com) a look (UK Financial Services Authority Registry No. 214225)... very similar in some ways to PayPal, but more flexible, available in more countries and regulated under UK law... Also, payments through moneybookers are considered 'hard payments' as opposed to 'soft' and are thus irreversible.
Worth a look, anyway. - NocturnVitae, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Sorry, I should have been clearer. It was a rhetorical question.
- cabaretvolt, on 10/10/2007, -6/+2there is a reason they're known as Scamazon!!! the third party sellers constantly complain about being taken advantage of, if you think paypal is bad, just wait till what Bezos cooks up w/ this latest brainchild debacle
