- CokeBear, on 10/30/2007, -0/+17Favorite Quote, regarding the Virgin A380: "More double beds for sure, plus a casino – chairman Richard Branson says: 'There’ll be two ways to get lucky on our A380s.'"
- RogerStrong, on 10/29/2007, -0/+14Not a guide at all. :(
It's just a review of the first public flight.
Similar promises of luxury were promised and planned for the Boesing 747 when it first launched. In the end just about everyone decided to forgo the bar and cabins and put in extra seats. - strictnein, on 10/29/2007, -1/+11"Our takeoff weight today was 468 tonnes, which is the equivalent of 12 very surprised sperm whales"
Perhaps the greatest line ever written? - BossKey, on 10/29/2007, -0/+8It sure was, back when Douglas Adams first wrote it
- Zique, on 10/29/2007, -0/+7Nice try but the the pressure, humidity, and window size are pretty much the same in both planes.
- amadeusdemarzi, on 10/29/2007, -1/+7blocked, cheers :)
- Pilot85, on 10/29/2007, -0/+6Don't ever expect airlines to uphold the promises of manufacturers. Their margins are way too thin for casinos and bars and massage parlors and such. They'll pack you in like sardines and charge you an arm and a leg for the pleasure.
- Electric_Sheep, on 10/29/2007, -1/+6Atleast the A380 can fly right now. The 787 won't even have its first test flight until the second quarter of 2008 and be delivered until December of 2008 because of software problems and delays.
Also i can't find any stats on how many 787's have been ordered. - annonimality, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5I don't get it.
- caoilte, on 10/29/2007, -0/+5Okay so you're patriotic and want to support _your_ plane, but don't lose the plot. What's more fuel efficient about two 787s flying for every A380?
- alien420, on 10/29/2007, -1/+6pshh i have like 8 of those.
- Comatose51, on 10/29/2007, -0/+4I think there might be a flaw in the business plan for this plane. With so many passengers, the loading and unloading time is high. This can lead to longer delays. Now the concept behind such a big airliner is so airlines can concentrate their routes, which means even less tolerance for delays. I haven't realized the problem until the article mentioned the long loading time.
- Ellipsys, on 10/29/2007, -0/+4Massage Parlors on Asian airlines would have record business and first class bookings ^^
- yensed, on 10/29/2007, -0/+4Virgin Atlantic sounds awesome.
- rajulkabir, on 10/31/2007, -0/+3Depends on load factors. If the A380s aren't flying full, then the per-passenger fuel usage equation changes. Airlines are buying the 787 because they don't think they can fill A380s.
- DeFex, on 10/29/2007, -8/+11no matter how packed you are in the seats, wait till you get off the plane in the USA. Then you will know what bad treatment is all about.
- EmileVictor, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3Of course it depends on the airline. This guy's experience will probably be a lot different to everyone else's. Singapore airlines is known to be pretty elitist. Other airlines like QANTAS will be putting a lot more emphasis on the economy and business classes.
- DeFex, on 10/29/2007, -1/+32 more ways to get ripped off if you are stupid :D
- sishgupta, on 10/29/2007, -0/+2Digg description was crazy misleading imho.
- km00, on 10/29/2007, -0/+2I thought the A380 required two gates? (or one gate split into two bridges, so that half the passengers enter on the upper deck, and the other half on the lower deck). I've seen pictures of airports that have needed to upgrade their gate systems to allow for two separate bridges.
For example: http://www.airportbusiness.com/print/Airport-Busin ...
(the article also states that load time is similar to 747-400's)
However, while the physical infrastructure might be there, who knows which crazy airline will decide to only have their gates manned by 1 or 2 people thus creating a chokepoint. - yujie, on 10/29/2007, -0/+2But does it have a blendtec blender?
- fofusion, on 10/29/2007, -0/+2You couldn't have possibly expected anything other than being dugg down...
Seriously? - rajulkabir, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1Elitist? SQ's economy class is loads better than anything Qantas has ever come up with.
- rajulkabir, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1That's been my question all along. How come we're still at 1968 speeds?
- TheCaterpillar, on 10/29/2007, -7/+8The A380 is cool, but the 787 is crushing it in sales.
- cawpin, on 10/30/2007, -2/+3Almost every airline that had an order in for the A380 canceled it and bought 787s. I worked on the plane for a year and saw the buyers slowly withdraw their orders. It happened every time Airbus announced another delay. I would advise everyone to fly Boeing.
- strictnein, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1What's efficient about a A380 flying you from London to New York, and then taking a A320 to your final destination, as opposed to a 787 flying you straight from London to your final destination?
- keyo, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1Thats assuming there would be the same number of planes just bigger ones and therefore a population increase.
- aduzik, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1Makes you want to throw a glass of water in his face, doesn't it?
- GuyeNoir, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1I was hoping for a map or cross-section or something.
- dash1185, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1They have been ! Remember that supersonic thing, the Concorde ? Or the russian Tupolev ?
- trghpy, on 10/29/2007, -5/+5Guide?
More like, detailed reviews of A380. - anthonylawrence, on 10/30/2007, -0/+0My friend Az will be over the moon to see this post...I have sent him the link and I am pretty sure he will be diggin it! =). Added you as a friend too fyi. =)
- HentaiJeff, on 10/29/2007, -1/+1Try doing it the other way around Terrorist :P
- teamug36, on 01/31/2008, -0/+0If he did, I've never seen it. I made that one up all by myself - no help from grown-ups or anything.
steve bleach - inactive, on 10/29/2007, -2/+1Yeah at first I thought it was the new D-link router.
- cawpin, on 10/30/2007, -3/+1This "guide" should consist of 4 words. "Don't fly on it."
I worked with the French, Germans and Canadians on this plane. Airbus has no idea what they are doing. I won't fly on it and suggest nobody else does either. - orca94, on 10/30/2007, -10/+8And in flies the 787...
The A380 is undeniably cool, but honestly what's so much better about flying in a larger sardine can?
Even though the seats on the 787 in economy will be small at least there will be other amenities to keep you somewhat comfortable: higher pressure, better humidity, lighting, large windows. - coltrane68, on 10/29/2007, -6/+3Seconded - dugg for informative content!
- inactive, on 10/31/2007, -7/+3Useful, dugg!
- inactive, on 10/29/2007, -6/+1Mooooooooooooo.
- strictnein, on 10/30/2007, -9/+3I really don't get why people are excited about flying in an even bigger plane. Bigger plane = longer loading and unloading times (the absolute worst time to be on a plane) and a higher chance for annoying or unruly passengers. Since the ranges of the 787-8 and the A380 are almost identical (~8000 nmi), there is no doubt in my mind that I would pay more to fly in the smaller plane.
As an aside, is it ironic that the big "future" plane is coming out of Europe and the small, efficient plane is coming from the US? - mbradbury, on 10/29/2007, -8/+2Damn Naggers
- Kardall, on 10/30/2007, -9/+1Like I've said to a lot of my friends who live around L.A.
How does it feel to be the #1 Immigrant Capitol of Singapore? :D Congradulations! You get a cookie! - PopularNerd123, on 10/30/2007, -10/+0America should be REALLY scared of the terrorrists now...
- inactive, on 10/29/2007, -19/+6Everyone wants to love the Airbus A380, but did you know that they plan to store the black passengers in the wing? Oh yes my friend. Oh yes.
