- sixister, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35When did this rock the internet....? I must have been asleep. I have a habit of sleeping through internet rockings.
- p9s50W5k4GUD2c6, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Ohh yeah, I'd plunk down $135,805 on eBay for a 2D image of a painting. Smart "investment"
- Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21The fact that your life savings = $500 is less a statement about corporate America than it is about your failure to manage money.

- Kerr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Are there screen captures of the eBay auction?

2 - A Fool And His Money Are Soon Parted
3 - A Penny Saved Is A Penny Earned
Anyone? Bueller? - Daniel591992, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7If you can afford to buy a $135,805 painting, you shouldn't be complaining :)
- TimHasAnAfro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6My favorite was when a DIGITAL photo of an Xbox some games and controllers were sold for $150. Even though it said read the description carefully. And it clearly said you are buying a digital picture of the above mentioned.
- Kazanoe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Heres another one:
It's cheaper if you dont buy it - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"rocked the internet" Seriously..these exaggerating descriptions need to stop.
98% of people on the internet never even HEARD of this. So how could it have "rocked" it? - theplant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I got a good laugh out of trying to decipher that post. I never did succeed. Thanks for... whatever you tried to say
- rockingrhino, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Okay this might have been news for all of 15 minutes in 2000 but why do we have to listen to the idiot trying to cash in on "their moment of glory" with a yet another "Look I got caught so I need to write book" moment?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6it was one of the more humourous crimes...
"my kid ran over it with a big wheel" I wonder how many people who thought it was real cringed at the thought of how much it was worth before the big wheel accident.
and it was subtle, she wasnt selling it as a found relic.. just a pianting with a hole
but they should of had a screen shot of the ebay page - KidVicious, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The statement about his life savings had nothing to do with his statement about corporate America.
- BrandonAbell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"Rocked" the internet? You must be stoned.
Har har. Har. - eclectro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I have stopped buying art altogether on ebay. Though some of my favorite pieces came from there. But now it's too much of a circus of scams.
- brandizzle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Um...feel free to call me stupid but what exactly is frisbee/disc golf?
- Sippi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Was a lawyer on top of it all…

"The more you pay, the more it's worth." - unitedstatians, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Caveat Emptor = buyer beware
***** those slime bastards and their trade - RobotCitizen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I seriously hope I'm not the only person who's totally disgusted that this crook gets to cash in on his crime by writing a book. We're almost to the point where people will commit crimes just to fish for a book deal. Heck, maybe we could let Zarqawi publish his memoirs. He could tell us more about how martyrs will be greeted by 72 sturgeons.
- bytefoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Walton: In the wake of the scandal, eBay really cracked down on shill bidding, and made it much more difficult for sellers to bid on their own items or (let) people they know bid on their own items."
And then eBay introduced Second Chance bidding, legitamizing shill bidding. Hilarious. - JMartin13, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I agree that you have to be a different breed of idiot to buy a painting on ebay for a 135,000, but there are still some things that ebay could do to keep buyers from getting ripped off. The feedback system is great, but it is not without its flaws. I know for a fact that often times people will not leave a negative feedback on someone simply because they know that the person may leave them a negative feedback out of spite, even though it is completely unwarranted.
BTW, this is not a story that rocked the internet, as this is also the first I have heard of it. - sirwally, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3We don't know how old Klisk is. If the apparent age of many posters on Digg is anything to go by, (s)he _could_ be 12, and if so, $500 doesn't sound that bad, if we are talking about savings from personal income.
- logic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2wtf?
- sadsac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2In the episode "The Summer of George", George Costanza calls it "frolf" -- frisbee golf.
I defer to George. Disc golf could be playing golf with CDs or something. - Bullsnot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought it interesting that during the interview he never shows any remorse, other then getting caught. He doesn't seem to feel like he has done anything wrong. He thinks he should have got the $100 fine and a slap on the wrist but was punished for being a lawyer.
- NoSuchAgency, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I'm not sure his goofy story about not knowing the value of the painting is a crime."
If it's not true and he used it for monetary gain, it likely constitutes fraud.
The midway solution, of course, is to not buy anything worth more than pocket change on eBay. Ripped off for ten bucks? That's a lesson learned. $100,000? That's a lesson you could have learned for $10 :( - migrate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't remember this one. I though the $28,000 grilled cheese sandwich farce would have made for a better interview.
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm 22. Dunt dunt.
- daofma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't understand why the original post is getting thumbs down.
Disc Golf is really what the game is called. Frisbee is a brand of flying disc.
Think of it like golf, but instead of hitting a ball, you throw a disc. The goal, I believe, is a sort of basket. - logic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1thiefing *****? Is that because you wouldn't be able to read it if you did? ;)
- Codee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Can you say, Dummeeee.
Please.
What Idiots. - Pile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What did the guy get nailed for? Shill bidding right? I'm not sure his goofy story about not knowing the value of the painting is a crime. In that case, it seems to me the person who bid such a high amount was a fool. Then again, having someone else bid very high probably helped escalate the impression that the painting was legit. A nice scam, but not something that a remotely smart user couldn't figure out by looking up bidding histories.
http://BSAlert.com/ - sweetnjguy29, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I wouldn't give this thiefing ***** one penny for his book.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6To the NON-anal retentive, Frisbee Golf is fine.
Frolf, however, is not. Not even if you are George Costanza. - theLEGENDisBACK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"Fetterman was finally arrested while on his way to a Frisbee golf tournament in Kansas." hahahaha
- fatrhino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For all of you posting about how you haven't heard of this and how scams happen every day, if you actually read the article you would realize that this happened back in 2000, and was big news then.
- 1807, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I went to an art Show in CHicago and I know 135 grand seems like a lot of money, but if you took a look at the price tag on some of those peices of art, 135 grand is a normal transaction.
- newevilmind, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1frisbee golf
- wvdavis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0no digg just for the "It was the scandal that rocked the internet" statement.
- burnstyle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0why does everyone feel that they should write a book about any hapless thing that happened in their life?
p.s. I'm leaving now... i once stole cigarettes from a gas station, I'm going to go write a book about it. - guiscard, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2the real crime is that a Diebenkorn could be worth that to begin with, have you seen his stuff?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3greedy idiots bidding on this need to be shot as well.
if no one was retarded enough to fall for scams like this, there would be no fraud. - jamesey, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2sounds like a plot from the BBC show, Hustle
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Addicted to eBay.
- cmdrNacho, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2"The sad part is, that for corporate america, 135k is pretty much spit in a well.
To me, my lifes savings is a whopping 500 dollars. Woohoo."
