- mymoustache, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19The look on Bill's face when the camera cuts to him as the audience and presenters are cracking up is priceless.
"Laugh at yourself first, before anyone else can."
--Elsa Maxwell - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16 This is old,but it's still funny.
- Lorian, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15Heh, after being away from Windows for so long I thought this was about the comic at first glance.
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7ya, but half only because new keyboards have ctr and alt on both sides. CHEATER.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Lol Indeed he's just like "uhhh :". Dugg cause he got owned ;)
- DrMatt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10It's interesting to see Bill Gates so uncomfortable. He doesn't know how to take a joke directed at him... and everyone is so scared of him that they try to backpeddle when they see he's not reacting...
- MisterEd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Back when things first started the keyboards were different. The XT machines had layout quite different to those of today.
Have a look at one here: http://showcase.netins.net/web/tkz/BTC-5060/BTC-5060-AT-9.jpg
Function keys down the left, number pad to the right. All of the extra keys (arrow keys, home, page up/down, etc) are available on the number pad and still are. - datagod, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Gates sure looked like a dufus there....he could have at least laughed....
The guys is a robot, I swear... - hyaena, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I think he acted appropriately for someone who's heard that lame joke a zillion times.
- ByteGuerilla, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I thought he reacted brilliantly. No lame riposte or pithy comment. Just a cold, hard, "your name will go on The List" stare.

- gti8v, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My co-worker calls it "the three finger salute"
- LiveDirect, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6The answer:
"[David] Bradley originally designed Control-Alt-Escape to trigger a soft reboot, but he found it was too easy to bump the left side of the keyboard and reboot the computer accidentally. He switched the key combination to Control-Alt-Delete, a combination impossible to press with just one hand" - euvirtual, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4No. This is the origin of the Ctrl+Alt+Del: http://cad-comic.com/comic.php?d=20021023
- Cojawfee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Find out how far behind the times on lame interet fads you are after the jump.
- KeiichiMorisato, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I agree, he took it waaay to seriously.
I've written my share of buggy code and had to inform the field team how to "kick it" so the service would work again and I've had them rib me about it.
But, I enjoy their critique; its in some ways endearing to recognize your faults and acknowledge other people's frustrations. - SuicideMouse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I agree with you hyaena. The joke is old, probably somewhat embarrassing for him, but you know what? He could have laughed all the same. It obviously was still funny to everyone else. It was a pretty good joke. Maybe someone saying it in private might merit that reaction, but in public in front of the press? He shouldn't of looked so god damn displeased. He should have laughed.
- ig33k010011, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This story caught my eye because Dave Bradley is a good friend of my dads. He taught my dad at NCSU and then went on to work with him at IBM. It's kinda funny because my dad then became his boss... I have met Dave several times and hes a really funny guy.
- shaun1018, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2well he's fired.
- jbrevik, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The look on BG face is priceless.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6I LOVE this video and I am not sure why:
- Pot shot at Bill Gates
- Documentary on a cultural icon
- The cut scenes to a modded keyboard device containing the sole keys "Ctrl" "Alt" and "Delete"
- The crowds reaction to the comment at the end - Sammy20, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You know if digg search actually worked, I could post links to the last 6 times this video has made the front page of digg.
- skywake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and also the origin of Rupert....
"Ethan, Rupert is a fruit"
"i know you may be bitter about your removal from the team, but Rupert's sexual preference is his OWN buisness" - pauly1980, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1funny how the smallest things & quickest decisions manage to persist
- paragonconcept, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2ya ..... poor bill gates and all his money - i'll reserve a 1/4 of my daily pitty for him.............
- EvilZoo42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anyone know what this video is a clip of?
- jrhelgeson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Microsoft claims that by using the CTRL+ALT+DELETE key sequence to log in, it makes the login process more secure because it ensured that the person was actually at the keyboard. Back then, there was no terminal services and sending those commands remotely was difficult enough (if not impossible).
Personally, I think that their motivation to use the key sequence was that if you were going to use a PC, that was the most important key sequence you could learn (even more important than your password.) - brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Last time i tried ctrl+alt+del using the righthand side ctrl and alt it didn't work. Windows taskmanager I believe is coeded to only respond to left side ctrl and alt."
I just tried it, it does work. - marioluigi123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, I think it was less that it's impossible and more that it won't be done accidentally. Granted, you might say that Alt-Ctrl-Esc wouldn't be hit accidentally, but hey.
- davidod87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This video is great - and so is this one too! http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6774591592070724791&q=ces+gates
I mean, you've got the richest man in the world, a snarky comedian and beta software - a true recipe for disaster. - 7sinz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Glad I wasn't the only one. :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9I thought it was about the Ctrl-Alt-Del web comic xD
- tainedhero, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Poor Bill. Like a confused kitten.
Btw, Down, But Diggmirror is up. - miken32, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Control-Alt-Delete
- Hootyea, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Via Wikipedia? For *****'s sake man, write your own blog.
- AriaStar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I can hit ctrl+alt+del with one hand, thumb on alt, forefinger knuckle on ctrl since I have to bend it, del with my middle finger. So all that's cahnged is that instead of using the left hand, one can use the right.
Ooooorrrrr...were PC keyboards different once upon a time? Until 1998, I was mostly on Macs, so don't remember PC boards prior to that. (Back to Mac.) - greenbox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2what do you mean impossible with one hand, just use your thumb for cntrl, ring finger for alt, and pinkie for delete, simple.
- Settra, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2http://www.youtube.com/v/TVRMrxF9BkQ
- theonesteve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Here I thought it was going to be about the Ctrl+Alt+Del webcomic (www.ctrlaltdel-online.com), something more along the lines of what euvirtual linked to (http://cad-comic.com/comic.php?d=20021023).
- scratched, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2"a combination impossible to press with just one hand"
I guess I've been using a computer for too long because my hand can contort to press them with one hand fairly easily :p - roguescout, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Article is 404.
- i440, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Well they need something to help people on that rare occasions that Windows crashes. Not that it does or
- h0dg3s, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Blogspam, reported as spam. Next time put a direct link to the youtube video you *****
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1That was pretty funny but I think bill gates was just going along with the joke pretending to be unenthused.. great stuff
- scratched, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2@nreynolds:
If by newer you mean the past 10 years or so (at least), then yes. I'm a cheater. - combatchuck, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3http://ctrlaltdel-revenge2.ytmnd.com/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Last time i tried ctrl+alt+del using the righthand side ctrl and alt it didn't work. Windows taskmanager I believe is coeded to only respond to left side ctrl and alt.
Carn't remember back to MS-DOS and I don't want to test it on the linux console since i want to keep my uptime :P - MulletHunter, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Man, that's what's I was hoping.
- ersnyder, on 10/12/2007, -15/+9I have never owned a PC, but about 60% of my jobs have been in the IT departments of PC networks. I recently left Apple for another IT job on PC's and I've gotten used to PC's again.
Well, I've tried to CTRL-ALT-DEL my mac at home 4 times today. Damnit.

What is Digg?
