- tj007s13, on 07/01/2009, -2/+83I keep reading retarded comments everywhere. People are like, "Who Cares, MiniNova FTW!!"
ThePirateBay was an indexer and a tracker. MiniNova is only an indexer. That means, when TPB's trackers stop working in a few months. Half the torrents on MiniNova will die. Also, MiniNova complies with DMCA letters and torrent complaints. That means they regularly delete torrents that Companies complain about. ThePirateBay never once deleted a single torrent. I hate that they sold out too, but to say MiniNova is just as good, or better, is retarded. It has a prettier interface and is easier to navigate, but people obviously don't understand the full concept.
Real public trackers like Demonoid will see a huge increase in traffic. Hopefully it's not crippling. Also, don't say Demonoid is private. People give out Demonoid invites like they are free burger coupons. My grandma could get invited there. They have open signups like 3-4 times a month too. It's pretty much Public. Best thing is to go to private trackers only. Oh, and don't ***** say UseNet is safe. UseNet Provider just got sued... http://bit.ly/a2HfI - krystofr, on 07/02/2009, -3/+42First Michael Jackson, then Billy Mays, now the Pirate Bay... so depressing.
- Haptick, on 07/01/2009, -2/+40Yarrrr, this blows
- inactive, on 07/01/2009, -0/+18TPB will die soon, time to relive that mad dash to download as much ***** as I can before TPB goes legit like I did with Napster back in the day.
- pinserz, on 07/02/2009, -1/+18***** THE RIAA
- collution, on 07/02/2009, -5/+20They aren't sellouts.
They don't get a dime of the money and were forced into selling. For all the years they provided Bittorent services to un-thankful ***** like you, you should be thankful. All good things must come to an end. - viper001, on 07/02/2009, -0/+12Whatever they're smoking must be amazing, because this is by far one of the dumbest ideas I have ever heard. Going legit will kill off 90% of TPB's base within 24 hours.
- Travelsonic, on 07/02/2009, -0/+11"I mean even youtube does."
Youtube uses a retarded system that allowspeople to fraudulantly allows others to claim to be from XYZ company and have vids removed without any form of verification. - llbbl, on 07/01/2009, -2/+11the corporate ninjas beat the pirates once again. add this to the list of awesome stuff the suits killed in the name of greed.
- djfacemachine, on 07/02/2009, -2/+11I wish Billy Mays were still alive so he could be the spokesperson for the new TPB.
HERE'S HOW YOU DOWNLOAD - jos22, on 07/02/2009, -1/+9never work
RIAA/IFPI will want 1 Euro min for every mp3 downloaded. and will want restrictions on when mp3 can be rls on the site.
same with the MPAA. for every movie they look for at least 10 Euro per downloaded.
they will also place restrictions on what can be available. ie no screener r5Line pre-releases etc.
problem suck as countries like the UK and others require all movies and TV shows to be rated by the sensors office before they can made legally available in their countries.
so this project is doomed to fail.
users will demand the files are well seeded also. - ZachsMind, on 07/03/2009, -1/+9Sellouts? They took more heat for The Cause than I've seen most anyone else take, and certainly put up with a lot of crap a lot longer than most of us would have. I doubt many of you reading this could do better than they did. I'm sure you could do better than I would have. Hell, I woulda folded like a lawn chair at the first sign of trouble. The guys behind The Pirate Bay are currently cutting their losses and moving on while they still have legs to stand on. If they're smart they'll lay low and get into 'respectable' business from this point on and let others take up the flag. They've been marked. The corporate interests and the media will watch them like hawks now. So it's time to let others continue the battle and rebuild. When Napster went down, the response was viral. Others learned from Napster's mistakes. The same will happen here.
Let them have the hill; just go underground. - funklor, on 07/03/2009, -0/+8I think it's highly probable that the people buying TPB are retards. They seem to have this idea in their head that the users were included in the deal.
- Walwyn, on 07/02/2009, -0/+7ThePirateBay is Dead
- thizzlebot, on 07/02/2009, -1/+7The future has changed. This is not the future my mother warned me about.
- nowherekido3, on 07/02/2009, -1/+7Good bye and thank for the memories TPB...sellouts
so now the question is where do we go from here? - dlllb, on 07/03/2009, -0/+5http*
- collution, on 07/02/2009, -1/+6"What service?"
It's obvious you don't know what a tracker is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent_tracker
Indulge yourself. - mythicflux, on 07/03/2009, -0/+5People are forgetting that the guys behind TPB have been working on a new decentralized anonymous information sharing system: IPREDator.
http://torrentfreak.com/pirate-bay-announces-ipred ...
The problem is to build such a system you need two things 1)time and 2) money.
By selling off TPB domain name and it's related trademarks they getting both. First the MPAA/RIAA will back off because they'll assume the threat is over. Then TPB guys can take all the money they're getting and invest in new servers and equipment to power their new project.
The end result (just like with other countless p2p tech): In a year or two people will be talking about this great new file transfer service, which unlike TPB is more anonymous by designed. - u16085, on 07/02/2009, -0/+5So.. We have ***** the riaa, mpaa, and tpb?
- lolwatermelon, on 07/02/2009, -1/+5If complying with DMCA takedowns keeps them open, what's the issue? There will be 5 torrents uploaded to replace the 1 taken down.
- dlllb, on 07/03/2009, -0/+4Your grasp of the English language amazes me.
- leon1337, on 07/03/2009, -0/+4I love Dane Cook. He is so funny and not a douchebag.
/s - Culyt, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3Mininova are already filtering copyrighted downloads anyway...
EZTV for instance now just put up .txt files linking to the real eztv. I've seen some movie release done that way too. - salvadorwii, on 07/02/2009, -1/+4something like this is gonna happen to TPB
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc3JLCqA4TQ - u16085, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3This is *****.
- shininia, on 07/02/2009, -1/+4"Uncertain"? It seems pretty certain to me.
- benologist, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3Their future's obvious...
They're going to shut down every facet of their business that can and will get them sued, a situation they're keenly aware is plausible even if they spent the last couple years marketing their invulnerability to an audience that translated that attitude into ad impressions very well.
Then they're going to try and stay relevant with this fantasy about offshoring all the dodgy bits to 3rd parties that don't exist yet but will be created and carry all of the liability but none of the revenue for them.
Then they'll sink into obscurity, but with pockets full of cash. Mission accomplished.... an exit that leaves them "blameless" in their "fight" for your right to pirate ***** and giving them billion/s of ad impressions a month. - Gareth321, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3tj007s13: Demonoid has the ability to remove the invites and stop signups - if things get out of hand.
- liquidex, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3its as if the screams of a thousand seeders was suddenly silenced..
- MasterGrief, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3I think it's also probable that the people buying TPB are buying it on behalf of the RIAA. It doesn't matter, though; in any case, Pirate Bay will never be the same. Traffic will drop off, and in a few years it'll just be another depressing memory in the world of free stuff.
Remember suprnova? :( - Kolumbic, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3F*cking amateur.
You and me man, we're doing it wrong, we're f*cking done professionally! - SebHughes, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2GGF is the biggest pile of ***** ever.
- Super6, on 07/02/2009, -1/+3It's easier to just use warez-bb now, HTML downloads are faster
- roxgod666, on 07/03/2009, -3/+5Guys, piece of ***** GGF has not yet acquired TPB, the transaction will happen August. That gives us a good month to collect 7.9 million dollars and purchase Piratebay ourselves. We, the Diggers, can own TPB and personally ***** the RIAA/MPAA up the ass!
- Colinho22, on 07/03/2009, -2/+3Obligatory ***** YOU & ***** THE RIAA
- supermanred, on 07/04/2009, -0/+1It isn't the death of Piracy. ***** the pirate bay.
- supermanred, on 07/04/2009, -0/+1Just deleted my account. EVERYONE should do so. Hopefully when the account users reaches ZERO they will withdraw their 8 million dollar offer and the Pirate Bay traitors can go broke in jail. ***** them.
- supermanred, on 07/04/2009, -0/+1I didn't mind Jackson actually, if they had hung him I would've held the rope. You ***** with kids, I will hold the rope.
- CalcProgrammer1, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1At the expense of ...expense. Torrents will be the best until another open, free, distributed network comes along to replace them. HTTP/Usenet/FTP/Rapidshare/Megaupload/etc will never come close. Sure, they may be fast, but to get anything at a reasonable rate you have to pay, if you don't pay you're bombarded with ads, captchas, wait lines, etc. These services often cap file sizes so you end up downloading a bunch of RAR files, you have to make sure you have each one, etc, and sometimes even after downloading you realize the moron that uploaded it put a password that you don't have, making the WHOLE THING a downright waste of time.
Torrents are simple, fairly fast, open, free, and powered by none other than the community. I think it would be great if the "next big thing" was a distributed tracker. If a bunch of little sites go up that all track the same torrents, it will be much harder to attack. The data AND the tracking will be too spread out to attack at one source. - christoast, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1and the internet went quiet... for a time all seemed lost
The lawyers have won, but at what cost?
The information and freedom that was given to all
was swiftly broken and surly would fall
and suddenly... there came from out in the deep
a new website were we had new torrents to keep
Soon the users realized that it was they, it was them
The source of freedom that no force could condemn
/I have way too much time on my hands - MasterGrief, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1They're not smoking anything, they're just trying to make the best out of a bad situation (and failing, unfortunately).
- inactive, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1The death of TPB is not the death of P2P. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.....
- tj007s13, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1Gareth321, I realize that, but my point was that anyone can find a Demonoid invite in 30 seconds using Google, It's hardly a private tracker, and I am tired of people considering it as one. I would look to an article like this, or one similar to find a private site...
http://filesharefreak.com/2008/07/17/private-track ... - tj007s13, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1"MiniNova is a very successful and fully-fledged tax-paying business with a revenue of well over a million dollar a year." Sources: http://torrentfreak.com/behind-the-scenes-at-minin ... http://torrentfreak.com/mininova-upgrades-layout-s ...
MiniNova is a money making machine. I would like to think TPB did it for the cause and they claim they are donating their money from the sale of the site to charity. I just have never been a fan of MiniNova or any other site who runs the operation like a business. - STARTSOMETHING, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1Thanks for the years of great torrents tpb.com. Good luck with your next projects!
- supermanred, on 07/04/2009, -0/+1They didnt provide the torrents, they just hosted the torrent files (NOT THE ACTUAL FILES)...we did that. We all did.
We still do.
WE THE PEOPLE provided the torrents. And you can still find torrents on many sites.
***** the pirate bay. - supermanred, on 07/04/2009, -0/+1Theyre not going to pay you, theyre going to let you buy *****, then if you re-seed that ***** for a year you might get a free Michael Jackson stuffed-pedo doll or something.
It's another Napster situation. 8 million dollars they couldve instead made into toilet paper and wiped their ass with. - Walwyn, on 07/04/2009, -1/+2*sigh*
