AVG Disguises Fake Traffic as IE6, Causes Web Headaches

theregister.co.uk — AVG has rejiggered the fake traffic it's spewing across the internet, causing new headaches for the world's webmasters. According to the company, more than 20 million people have downloaded the new AVG 8, and this has caused a huge up-tick in traffic on sites across the web, including The Register.

  • VictoryGin, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5I disabled the link scanner in my copy as soon as I noticed it. But now my tray icon is gray with the exclamation mark, making it hard to tell when it's outdated. Very lame, AVG...

  • shinkou, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2They may have improved some of their scanning products' quality from the end user's perspective, but they're ruining other businesses with non-distinguishable excessive traffics, making life much harder for everyone. I'd say it's a negative move to us all. It will surely bring them back some of the effects that they don't want either, unless they don't market their products/services and don't count on the internet to sell them.
