- jacobo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+85was the server inside the plane?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+55instead of a picture of a server that had crashed?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+43I was expecting a picture of a plane that had crashed.
- freff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Server crashed harder than one of those planes.
- thienz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7it's not working, the duggmirror wasn't fast enough to create a backup... :(
- JernejL, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8digg fact: planes only crash on northern hemisphere, 99% in the usa.
- nroose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6IMHO,
Many plane crashes are during takeoff or landing. Relatively few happen while the plane is cruising. When planes are over the ocean, they are usually cruising.
The northern hemisphere not only has more land, but is on average further developed economically and has much more air traffic than the southern hemisphere. More news channels also, so the crashes get reported more reliably. - edsonmedina, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You mean planes dont crash in the sea?
- Thorpe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5bbnkstr: I didn't think he meant it that way.
- davidlow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5CHANGE THE CURRENT TITLE:
"Mix the GPS coordinates that the FAA and NTSB use to track airplane crashes and Google Maps API and the end result is a resourceful aviation tool."
TO THIS:
"Mix the IP addresses that the RIAA uses to track server locations and DuggMirror's reliability and the end result is a resourceful error message generator." - trib4lmaniac, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Oh dear; I hope Google's maps are ok.
- cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Holy damn, it crashed before Duggmirror could get it. Wow.
- victorcgalanis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Title should be changed to
SERVERCRASH : Server Crashes on Google Maps - bbnkstr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5try reading other people's comments before posting your own
- griz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I thought the same thing, then realized it said "Google Maps", not "Google Earth"
- nextlevel233, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Me too, digg title a little fuzzy.
- davidgid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah the title was a bit off. They should have titled it as a mashup.
Anyway I wonder what use a mashup like this provides. I guess it could show patterns which might indicate things like airport overuse or abnormal winds due to geography. - bram, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Shouldn't the title read "AVCRASH : Site Crashes on Google Maps"
- Thorpe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I mean mindsnare not bbnkstr.
- redstang83, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1captainmarvel, Where was it that JFK Jr.s plane crashed??? Oh thats right, the Atlantic ocean. Planes fall out of the sky all over the world. I will agree that a majority of plane crashes are into mountains an fields just shy of airports though. The NTSB and the FAA track US registered planes so that is probably why it seems there are so many in the US. They need to look into ICAO ant the other Aviation authorities to get more info on foreign registered planes.
- astx813, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nevermind the usual bit about posting the standard mirror link, but if you insist on posting the link, shouldn't you first make sure the mirror actually mirrored the site?
"Sorry, a mirror of AVCRASH : Plane Crashes on Google Maps is not available."
eh, thienz beat me to it. - nroose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Didn't Google just change their service to limit the amount of traffic coming from one Google Maps user? If I am correct about this, any pages that have a Google Maps object on them and get dugg will fail because of this.
- bs3arch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That was probably Jeremy Zawodny's blog, although its not an SEO blog, more of a hacking & aviation blog by a geek Yahoo employee.
Irony is his blog is where I first saw this mashup: http://jeremy.zawodny.com/blog/archives/008262.html - bs3arch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Mix the GPS coordinates that the FAA and NTSB use to track airplane crashes and Google Maps API and the end result is a resourceful aviation tool."
Thought the description was good enough... next time will use Mashup in a Mashup title :p
Too bad their server crashed so damn fast! - DigDugDigger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"digg fact: planes only crash on northern hemisphere, 99% in the usa."
Yeah especially considering the FAA and NTSB are American agencies and it's their data that is being used to construct the map. - voteforblank, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I just wasted 5 minutes. What a stupid thing to post to Digg!
- xXBassXx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Someone post a mirror quick it might work the 6th time around.
- geordiedan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Probably due to majority of the Earths land being in the Northern hemisphere.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"I was expecting a picture of a plane that had crashed."
Same as me - codyman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Remind me never to fly in a small aircraft....
- captainmarvel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2How often do you hear of a plane going down in the middle of the Atlantic? Never. They're always hitting mountains or going down in fields just outside the airport. As with many things, I'm pretty sure I'm right about this, even tho I have no proof.
- mindsnare, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3the URL does not go to google maps
- balibones, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2VERY COOL! Hey, I used to subscribe to an SEO blog, but unsubscribed because all the guy ever posted about was airplane stuff. I forget who it was though. Anyone know? He'd probably love to see this site.
- tpaine, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5hehe, funny dugg mirror, craptastic server
