I'm sure we are just seeing the beginning of this. For every voyeur out there with too much time on their hands - those piles of data are a dream come true. - KevinJ, on 10/12/2007, -4/+133"927 dirty jews 2006-03-29 22:11:30"

i rest my case - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+84My favorite: "j. edgar hoover's sex life"
Followed closely by the fact he searches for YTMND several times.
I new those YTMND guys were freaks. - Avogadro65, on 10/12/2007, -2/+83If you're just on their wireless network, you wouldn't be using the AOL search engine.
- CamperBob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+71"What kind of freak types that into any form of search engine?" Someone looking for the exact text of the joke so he can quote it properly, would be my guess.
If you're not one of those idiot-savants who memorized the entire Monty Python repertoire by age 12, search engines make great memory aids. Needless to say, if Google ever exposes my own search logs, I'll be hosed. - mouthster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+71I am still more scared of the fact that we are able read these searches.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+65.......I am cancelling my AOL subscription right Now.

Dirty Sanchez FTW!!! - OSX1337, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30See but this is exactly the thing. Yes this guy is a sick bastard. But we shouldnt be allowed this insight into his private, personal search queries. If in the privacy of his own home he is searching for these things, as sick as they might be does he not have the freedom to do so and the right to privacy?
This guy is sick, but this violation of rights is sicker. - diggeddugg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29One of my favorites is this user:

What is going on with these people? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32Why is this scary? Sure, there are a lot of ***** up people out there, but even your average Joe is likely to be somewhat deviant in the privacy of his own home or computer. Not defending this user, but it simply comes as no surprise to me.
- n00bst3r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29I wonder if this guy is a digg user? He's probably ***** his pants if he is.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+37How do we know that this is one person searching for all this? It could be a shared computer, or someone was using their unsecured wireless network....
- thegreyfox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27Aren't we happy Google didn't cave in.

This is truly a sick individual. - chubbly0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25Bah people are getting their panties in a twist over nothing. I can remember back in highschool just throwing random, screwed up searches our there just to see what it would bring back. Just because we were bored. They made some of these searches look tame. The REALLY scary thing is that people are talking about trying to find out who these people are, as if they are going to stop some crime. These are web searches people. This is quickly turning into a present day Salem witch trials. You CANNOT persecute based on outward apperances and popular opinion!!!
- brianmost, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26@cubiculum: I totally recognize your name from somewhere... have we met?
Edit: Oh right! Hey, testicle festival buddy!!! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25I'm more intrigued by 'tormented elmo'.
- SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24I'd give 10 to 1 odds he was in a preteen chatroom searching for a young japanese holocaust survivor to rape when he got taken in by a rather amusing robe and wizard hat prankster. He then did a search to find out what they meant by that comment.
- efriese, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22"new kids on the block"
These people are sick... - eric0213, on 10/12/2007, -9/+30Testical festivals is just a food festival focusing on testicles (bull, turkey, etc). Bull fry... rocky mountain oyster... whatever.
I think the biggest is in North Bend, Nebraska held by a bar called "Round the Bend" during the Cass County Fair.
Personally I like bull testicles. If done right, they're really good. They need a bit of salt (like any fried food) and taste similar to chicken gizzards. - sp1keNARF, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21sure, releasing your user's search queries invades their privacy, but it's funny as hell! anyways, i'm off to the testicle festival.

- BufordT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18It's funny how people who are so adamantly opposed to government intrusion on search and other personal records do not balk at a chance to search/gossip about the personal search records of AOL customers.
- kton25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18How long till we have a "Which AOL User Are You" poll site?
--RESULT--
You are AOL User: 927
You like testicle festivals, dirty gay sex, randy johnson, and holocaust rape. Your feel like your friends don't "get" you. When your not worrying about your skin mold, you're singing yoko ono songs and practicing your square dancing steps. You're eclectic. The world is your child molesting oyster. - Boor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Even worse for him is if 2 or more people used this aol acount, and the person who was searching for flowers is a digg user and found out what the guy who was searching for the other stuff was searching for.... He/She would probably never be able to look at the person the same way again...
- MoofTheStoof, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Unfortunately, it's gone forever - we're living in a post-privacy world. Either shadowy governments own our info without bothering to tell us (thereby maintaining the privacy "fiction") or we **all** own the info. People's personal lives are up for public consumption. Look at the kids who do the Girls Gone Wild videos - some of them still face repercussions for appearing in them from bosses or teachers who grew up in a world that had reasonable expectations of privacy, but it won't be long before the old will die out and being in a video like that will just be another occurrence in a normal life. And from the perspective on the young, why should doing something like that matter? Everybody's young, once, and everybody has been "wild" at some point - it's just that the last generation didn't have ubiquitous cameras around recording it all.
The next step is getting used to the idea that your innocuous-looking friends at work or school might have some... less than savory tastes. Basically, we're going to have to get used to the idea that looking at rape-porn isn't the same as rape - though, we probably all agree it's still disturbing. Still, the culture is going to (by necessity) take an even stronger "live and let live" philosophy and only punish people when they've actually broken the law.
If you want to make people stop having disturbing or disquieting traits you're going to have to take a closer look at the familial and cultural forces that shape people - until then, you're just going to have to tolerate their peccadilloes that are merely disturbing and not actually damaging. - Mrkamikaze, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22No thanks i am having a private "testical festival" with my wife later on tonight.
- masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18@jbarnett:
Well, searching through their records, they seem to like anime and Japanese things. My guess is that by "testicle festival," they were looking for the Kanamara Matsuri, a yearly fertility festival that is... quite odd, to say the least. It features gigantic wooden phalluses to sit on, and, among other bizarre things, candy phalluses for girls of all ages to suck on (NOT kidding O_O;).
Here's the Wikipedia article on it:
