- g00ee, on 10/10/2007, -1/+95This is BS. Why would they change their name to a celebrity gossip site? That makes no sense. TMZ stands for "thirty mile zone" which referes to the area around hollywood. It would be absolutely retarded for an ISP to name themselves that.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+93Kill an established name brand? That would be the stupidest thing they could do.
- z33Tec, on 10/10/2007, -3/+48America Online, AOL, TMZ... either way their still screwed.
- timusca, on 10/10/2007, -2/+42Have any of you RTFA? Its a joke.
- mstoneburner, on 10/10/2007, -5/+34Spoken like a true Apple fanboi...
- mykool, on 10/10/2007, -2/+31AOL to change to TMZ....BFD!
- Davisourus, on 10/10/2007, -7/+31maybe they should change their name to: america OFF-line! roflrofllolol... oh wait, that's still aol.
(jk) - tonaros, on 11/14/2007, -1/+23A better way for them to do this would be QUIETLY. I will now do my best to ignore anything TMZ-related.
- Pifman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19All this from one guy saying, "I am now convinced that AOL will be undergoing another name change by the end of the year."
I'm taking a wild guess that even AOL isn't that stupid. - realwx, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20AOL -> TMZ -> FUD
- unitedstatians, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18AOL, Inc. is one FAT GIANT COASTER, which wouldn't be missed.
Ever wondered, Why are there no Flying cars?...yet. Yes you guess It, blame "AOL", thats all I have to say. - mongoos150, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16What the hell does that acronym stand for?!
- Puppetfunk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Once you see Goatse you will never have fear ever again. Goatse wipes you clean of emotion and sets you up for the real world. Show them Goatse and they will be adults.
- tatltat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12What does TMZ even mean? Isn't that a celebrity gossip blog or something?
- aldenhg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I trust all the news I get from internetfinancialnews.com. Just like how I got a free iPod by signing my friends up for services.
- mmmgood, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I think "Internet Financial News" should consider a name change...
- akira117, on 10/10/2007, -7/+16Yea, as expensive shiny *****....
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10AOL can burn in hell. have you ever tried to get your aol service canceled?. after about an hour on automated customer service, they hang up, then after you call back and cancel, you keep getting billed. i got aol once for the free month "cancel anytime, no hassels," after i got my high speed, i tried to cancel and was billed for six months. everytime i tried to call back, i got "disconnected" after being on hold for at least one hour. it was almost easier just to pay the $25 per month than keep trying to cancel. ***** aol. ***** them in the ear.
- Authustian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8From wikipedia: TMZ refers to the "Thirty Mile Zone" around Hollywood, also known as the "Studio Zone".
- coreydb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7this is someones prediction, however the post seems to imply this is a fact. Buried for inaccuracy.
- noahhoward, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7It is an established name that has a lot of bad connotation to it.
- BrokenCircle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Buried as completely ***** inaccurate and a waste of my time.
- ThreeDee912, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Ok, This is lame...
- Ultramagnus0001, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5"***** them in the ear" LOL
- marketnet, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10g00ee, I don't think of AOL as an ISP anymore...there's no money in providing dialup services anymore. Dialup is dead.
- neuromute, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8This is retarded.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Good idea - stop pretending you are mainstream and start working solely on media-whoring.
- LiquidLeopard, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4because everybody knows, AOL sucks.
- Shiner6, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4A dying company with one decent product that is widely used and keeps them alive: AIM. $10 a month for email and a home-page - all of which can be accessed for free via AOL.com. I guess that proves there are plenty of idiots out there.
- javascriptdude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4its a hoax, internetfinancialnews.com is really gullible.
http://valleywag.com/tech/explainer/aol-alas-not-to-change-name-to-tmz-284894.php - blackjack75, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Actually, I am not certain it would be such a bad idea (even if the story is fake).
- Bush really ruined the "America" brand
- AOL really ruined the AOL brand.
A name change couldn't hurt. - aresef, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5A rose by any other name...
Or a turd by any other name for that matter. - kethraal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Ah yes -- AOL -- the company that went from being more or less synonmyous with "The Internet" c. 1991-1994 to "that company that ***** over their customers" c. 1996-present. Given their history of ***** management and general disregard for what the customer wants, why does it not surprise me that they're making such a stupid change...?

- gbarger, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5The Militarized Zone?
- abandonedhero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Why'd you get AOL to begin with? I will NEVER put a CD that's been mailed to me unsolicited in any of my machines.
- Bobby8988, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4That's So ***** Stupid!!
- Modulo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The only "web surfing chops" that.. wait, "chops"? Seriously? "Chops"? .. anyways.. the only "web surfing chops" you can get from using AOL is technically learning to smarten up and not use AOL. Seriously, ***** AOL, they suck on every possible level..
- SwabTheDeck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3What does AIM get them? Anyone with half a brain uses a 3rd party client to avoid their ads, so it's just a huge waste of bandwidth and, therefore, money. The non-IM services packed into AIM aren't anything compelling that competitors aren't doing better. The only thing AIM could get them is a wad of cash for selling the user base to another company.
- donsherio, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2exactly. I RTFA and didn't see what the acronym stood for. The comments above say "Thirty Mile Zone" but anyone could assume that is a joke (assuming it was myself).
- abandonedhero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Actually, nowhere does the article state exactly what it means. You need to read the article.
- redivider, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Wow. If there was anything I'd be willing to bet everything I own on, it's that AOL will never change their name to TMZ. This is the most retarded prediction I've ever heard.
- abandonedhero, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3You just wanted to type "RTFA" because you think it makes you look cool, didn't you?
- MisterZero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They have to change their name. You see, AOL sucks so bad, and people are so familiar with AOL and its suckiness, that the only way to try to recover is to try changing the name.
- Pyrogen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2See, people digg this man down, but he's right. Go wiki "America Online," and you'll find it was originally Quantum Computer Services. I was a Q-Link member in the 1980s. Where do you think those odd double-word "passkeys" came from? They started with Q-Link, and special sets gave accounts Q-Guide or Suzy-Q access. (SysOp mode.)
- timusca, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Its a joke because AOL isn't and never will change their name to TMZ. Christ...
- diggdeep, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3This was a joke that some inept journalist misinterpreted as fact. Visit valleywag if you need more commentary.
Buried as inaccurate. - unitedstatians, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3What a surprise, diggers show bitter hate for anything that sounds remotely like “AOLC”.
http://www.digg.com/business_finance/Time_Warner_could_drop_AOL - abandonedhero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You realize that digg has a reply feature now, right?
