    (Unless they researched how to make it as invasive and dangerous to your system as possible, which is a possibility considering that Colin Powell and Alexander Haig used to be on AOL's Board of Directors)

    I'm afraid in this day and age AOL has little or no reason to even be in business, especially now that they charge more for dial-up than I pay for broadband. It's too bad they are going to stick around long enough to completely disgrace their selves before they go bankrupt.

    A rash of firings only improves things if the people who are left are any better than the people who got axed. I personally think they are throwing everyone they can under the bus just to look like they are taking this seriously, but I don't see any evidence that it will make any difference.

    And who else wonders what AOL "Research" ever did anyway... all they are doing as a company is packaging and repackaging Web browsers, e-mail and IM, or racing to release on-line products that everyone else had years ago.

    AOL _could_ remake themselves... they have a huge infrastructure and tremendous resources, but as long as they are afraid to try anything that hasn't been done by a dozen other companies, they are doomed to continue declining.
