Steak & Cheese? - chess007, on 10/12/2007, -3/+59Could be just a frustrated drunk guy typing stupid stuff.
- Lyanto, on 10/12/2007, -6/+59personally I find his search for "steak and cheese" more funny/disturbing than "poop".
- bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+42Disturbing.. sure...
illegal? A resounding NO.
personally I find sandals disturbing.
By the way, I think "Murder Ballads" by Nick Cave is required listening for anyone... Do you lock me up now or later? - splendidbob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+36or a series of hugely unlikely typos for a food lover.. (but nonetheless statistically possible and likely to eventually occur)
how to kill your wife = how to swill your wine (I must admit to searching for this before myself)
poop=spoon
dead people = bread people
dead pictures = bread pictures
murder photo = burger photo
steak and cheese = steak and cheese
photo of death = photo of broth
www.murderdpeople.com = www.burgerpeople.com
This is scientifically the most likely scenario because the correctly typed 'steak and cheese' is proof. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35@lyanto: steak and cheese is a site featuring pics/videos of gruesome scenes, corpses etc.
- Days, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33In high school I did a paper on Communism, Nazis, Death camps, etc. I searched for some pretty morbid stuff.. and lots of it. I can see where false positives would be a problem in a blatant invasion of privacy.

Ohp, just the sound of your privacy disappearing. Nothing to see here, folks. Move along, move along.
Though I do admit, "poop" and "steak & cheese" are amusing to see amongst a misspelt "decapitate."
Perhaps he's a kid? - IbnDigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23This has to be the funniest search query I have found so far!
2413821: are there studies showing that girls spanked by fathers want to be spanked by husbands or boy friends
LOL
//i don't want to even think about context - mouthster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Maybe it was someone else on his unsecured wi-fi.
- catchneyez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Yea, Steak and Cheese is a sight full of sick *****, which is actually what they refer to themselves as. I found it through funny video links once. That sight is full of sick, disturbing stuff... pictures of dead people included, which is something else he seems to like searching for.
- peterfry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21the following entries are pretty ironic:

'How to kill my wife's goldfish' but he pressed enter too soon. - kubudubudubuntu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21You must be joking, releasing such a thing then laying the blame partly on the public? That article is insane.... its like reading about war in the newspaper and then being partly accused just for that
- Nougat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Yeah, the guy's not going to get good search results if he doesn't know how to spell 'decapitated.'
- ridgelawrence, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23Reasons like this is why I never get involved with AOL
- ho0ber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19The link to more about the release of the data, not just about some guy who hates his wife.
http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/08/06/aol-proudly-releases-massive-amounts-of-user-search-data/
This is yet another reason AOL sucks and is going to disappear. There was already a big fuss about their "customer retention program", and now they're sharing search data? Oh fun.
I mean, come on! Google is releasing TBs of words for research purposes, and so I guess AOL thought they'd share something too... like loads of personal data. Sure, it may not have usernames attached to it, but how many of you have searched for your own name in a search engine?
What a mess... time to download it to search for friends and family. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20I'm amazed that what AOL has done has STILL not been covered by mainstream news. The only news source covering this is some newspaper in Korea, according to Google News.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21dead girls can't say no.
- Taedirk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19"You do know what assuming makes, right?"
Of course, everyone knowns that "assumptions" make an "ass" out of "u" and some guy named "mptions". Poor Mptions, nobody ever takes him seriously anymore. - Norseman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18There's this whole boring discussion, and then *bam* you hit the nail on the head. If we start prosecuting people because of their internet searches, how long until hackers can put anyone they don't like behind bars?
- MikeRaff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18This is the most egregious violations of trust between a public company and private individuals I've ever seen. AOL will go bankrupt over this, and in my opinion should have criminal proceedings brought against them.
And why did such an idiotic digg-edit have to be the headline for this story? This is an insanely important development in the recent free fall of personal liberty going on in this country. Is that wacko looking to kill his wife? Possibly, but I'm willing to bet that just about every person who has used a search engine could be brought under suspicion of some criminal act if their searches were viewed under the wrong context. - JVaux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17The fact that someone is searching for info on killing someone shouldn't be TOO surprising...
It's a sample of 500,000 people. In 2004 the murder rate was 5.5 per 100,000 people. (http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius_04/offenses_reported/violent_crime/murder.html)
You can assume there's going to be several people in last list that are murderers, as well as pedophiles etc etc... - suomi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16And why is it suddenly more worthy of Government investigation (as suggested by some over at the blog linked to by this article) simply because it is on the Internet?
By the same logic, the Government and law enforcement authorities should all be sitting in bars ready to pounce on inebriated old men making disparaging remarks about their spouses... Or does typing it on a keyboard make it more 'serious'? - Bloekie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Well, I could be searching with the term "child porn" cause I have to do a school report about, to find information about how bad the problem is and all, it does not necessarily say you're a pedophile.
- valenciastudent, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18"There are hundreds of searches from people looking to kill themselves and even more scary are searches from users that seem to be looking to commit murder."
This should be AOL's new ad campaign! They could even incorporate 1000 free hours of how to kill your wife. - orsino23, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18A while back I was writing two novels and both of them dealt in some way with a terrorist act. So I was going to be googling bombs, explosives, jihad, etc. Before I began, I went down to the local police station and had them take a statement that I was a fiction writer and that I would be searching for this type of information on the net. It was a wise precaution. However, I sure as hell wouldn't want my ISP to post my searches online, as what this bozo is searching for is kindergarten stuff compared to what I was typing into Google.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17They give him the cold shoulder.
- pseudojd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15What if it's for a book? how about a screenplay. taking this stuff out of context ( except poop and cheese steak ) is worthless.
- SpeckledJim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14It must have been a woman. There's not a single search for boobies in that list.
- bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Gross....
not illegal... hell not even immoral...
I just finished watching a human autopsy on SBS... gross huh... very interesting though..
I believe Da Vinci had the same issues when he was doing ground breaking research. I don't necessarily believe thats what this guy was doing, but frankly it's none of our ***** business...
I'm more concerned about 300 million pitchfork carrying spies than one single *possibly* depraved individual. - Ryosen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16There were also over 100 users searching for "child porn" and similar stuff. This seems like it will just validate the government's actions towards search companies in demanding their logs.
Could this be AOL's way of saying "F-You" to the internet community for making them go pseudo-free?
Of more concern to me is that there were social security numbers in the list, too. Not that you couldn't just randomly make up some of your own. - ScornForSega, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13If anything, they're screwing their own members....
well, now that I think about it, they've been screwing their members for years so I guess I'm really not surprised. :/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1417556639 how to kill your wife
