- vault, on 10/10/2007, -3/+177Those are all pretty obvious features.
- mercurysquad, on 10/10/2007, -1/+102I think one of the least known but incredibly useful features is that you can click Compose to write a new message..! Also if you pay attention, you will see there is a Reply option below each message. Click that will allow you to reply to that email! Magic!
- Bricks, on 10/10/2007, -2/+81Stay tuned next week for more exciting tips from Captain Obvious and the Googlenauts!
- Dokument, on 10/10/2007, -2/+66holy *****. gmail does email also. Damn ive been missing out
- jkharris07, on 10/10/2007, -3/+60I would say most people know about most of those features.
- Matt2k, on 10/10/2007, -1/+45It's hard to call the feature "little-known" when it's a BIG FAT LINK that says "Open as a Google document" or "Reply as a chat". RIGHT THERE in the message. Like.. OH I never noticed that??
- D3koy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23This is the "official gmail blog" so why would they need traffic?
- Matt2k, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22My productivity is up 500%. Thank you mercurysquad!
- archlich, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23Here's one that really is little known, and I can't live without it. I was going to write a whole article about it, but why bother when someone else already has:
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1865178,00.asp - aburd, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21Why in the hell would they split a Top 10 List into two parts? Was it just too much awesomeness for a single Top 10 List?
- niz85, on 10/10/2007, -5/+24I found gmail for mobile application most useful to me.
- MalDON, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19But, does it have a flight simulator? Let me check...
Nope. Damn. That would be cool flying an email around the tubes. Shooting down all the spam.... - captinherb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16There is only 5 listed as there is no Part 2. So the Digg title is more accurate (or at least not as misleading) as the blog post
- nreynolds, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15what the hell is an email?
- shawnz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13to be fair, gmail's philosophy would allow "delete" to be a little known feature.
- ZPWeeks, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13sigh.... Nerdy websites have such a distorted idea of "most people". Work some tech support for a little while, and then you'll gain some perspective.
- lex0429, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13buried for lying..Dont say Top 10 and make me wait till next week for the next 5...LIAR!
- techmaster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8The remaining 5 items on the "top 10" list...
- audiooeric, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13Why wait until next week to post the other 5 unless you're just trying to get traffic.. I wish that people were less concerned with how much traffic and how their site will be seen by a search engine, and more concerned with writing good articles with useful information...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5this isn't just some *****'s blog you know its the official gmail blog. you must feel like a right idiot.
- grav3k33p3r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I hope they incorporate the popular Gmail Greasemonkey scripts like such as saved searches and conversation preview and better filters.
- zeeeg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I use this all the time, the only problem is some websites don't recognize it as a valid e-mail address with the +, but those are rare.
- teaBagger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Crap like this getting to the front page....
Bring back the early days! - Cloud7654, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4If most people know about most of those features, can it then be true that all people know about some of those features?
- Scotepi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5hmm.. out of the 5, what are little known?
- p0tent1al, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yeah hopefully the next 5 features will be better.
- unruled, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4the java gmail application is a lifesaver! Love that thing to death!
- Hignaki, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3That works with ANY web-based (or sometimes, non) email client. Yay for anti-google propoganda, you douche.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3you are dying.
- broeks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3too bad my password has punctuation marks in it that aren't on my phone. doh.
- controlguy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Exactly, which makes me wonder how it got 950+ diggs? I think that bury option should be more prominent in times like this.
- iofthestorm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yeah, the most annoying thing is that some websites recognize it as a valid email but then don't recognize it when you unsubscribe or whatever, like pcmag.com's mail list. I signed up with my address+nospam or something so i would know who they gave my email address to, and then when I realized the newsletter was crap I kept trying to unsubscribe but it wouldn't work. Luckily, since I used that alias I can just run a filter to trash any emails I get from them, but it's still annoying.
- Murdats, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3ok, open in google documents or as a webpage is right next to download, except for blind people this is obvious
gmail for iGoogle, its one of the default igoogle modules, how is this not obvious, its already there for you.
the reply by chat. its right there next to reply and forward. whats not obvious about that? - danielsamuels, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I bet you wished that you were actually funny, instead you've wasted your life.
- TechBharat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2maybe this is the first 'Top-10-Blogspam' from Google Directly. Kudos.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I bet you wished that was actually funny, instead you've just wasted 10 minutes - you might as well kill yourself.
- Pyroboy1080, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I guess he didn't realize that 5 != 10
- MagicCake, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah, I think so too... Although I admit I didn't know #10. The rest seemed pretty obvious. It's like Matt2k said, they put it right in your face so you can use it.
- bilangew, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2THAT is something that you maybe not know:
In the list view, you can use the J and K keys to move your cursor up and down a line.... just like in vi, the editor....Yuppers, Google likes vi (and clones)!
All the shortcuts are listed here: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=6594 - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2but it says 5
- Ignotus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2everyone that already knew them all gets a cookie...
why waste everyone's time just to post "i knew them all" or "this is obvious". no one is impressed. even if they were, it's the internet. you win at the ***** internet. - sodade, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Too bad for me that I am a dumbass who has a verizon contract. *****.
- Ibox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No.
- Konstantino, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I suppose it would be useful to Gmail users who, for example, don't receive documents attached to their mail often and never knew that they could do that. It's nice to know these things.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"end up being useful" way to sell it.
- fmorel90, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You're not alone.
- keraneuology, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Now if only there was a way to turn off the spambox filter - I trust Gmail's assessment. Don't bother making me delete 400 pieces of spam every day (that started coming in withing the first 24 hours of creating the account). It is depressing to know that it is there - just delete it as it arrives and don't bother storing it.
- wanzedk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I knew them, but if you're looking for little-known Gmail features, take a look at http://google.com/a/:
"Give your users Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Talk accounts that use your own custom domain, helping them to stay connected and work together more effectively.
Docs & Spreadsheets lets users share files and collaborate in real-time. The Start Page is the first place your users will look to preview their inboxes and calendars, access your essential content, and search the web."
Set up the MX records and you got a mail-hosting server free of charge. Now that is an awesome feature. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3buried for being in two weekly parts.
- Ibox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What is this witchery you speak of?
