- marnaq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Take that, Google. Very innovative service.
- Szandor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+106. Make sure to de-stem before packing bowl.
- sifelltneytandi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Know what this thread needs? A few more "tubes" jokes! Those never get old! At my count, there's only two or three so far.
- duhblow7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8next up, Google Bongs. Take! that! Yahoo! Pipes!
- lihkin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yahoo! Pipes is a really cool feature.
I've been trying out various neat little mashups and having a lot of fun. A really neat application from Yahoo!. Kudos! - TechLaw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6So now Google will debut "dumptruck?"
- RedRummy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6great... we'll be waiting for your declaration
- jcs_goog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Very useful. Many of the early Pipes people built didn't work. Yahoo needs to build out their documentation. Thanks, this helps.
- fuzZzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The site is still up
- fuckingusername, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I like tobacco in my yahoo pipe!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I have yet to see how this tool is even remotely useful or why there's this weird hype around it.
Anyone care to explain? - julianrod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4how about "ceci n'est pas une pipe"?
anyone? no? anyone? no? anyone? no? - VeryAngryJim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm loving this pipes thing so far. I've always been annoyed with the way I couldn't remove news from my Penny Arcade and CAD feeds as well as audio from The Onion feeds on my google homepage, this Pipes thing made life a whole lot easier.
- mwosh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Pipes is good and has a lot of potential, but it HAS to let users extract text from the RSS feed, how am I supposed to filter based on the content analysis if i'm not able to pull the content analysis field out?
- jarinudom, on 03/31/2008, -1/+3It is fantastic for building custom RSS feeds for use with the OS X RSS Visualizer screensaver :)
- whovian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually these "pipe" objects, or "workflows", are an up-and-coming informational tool. There are used, for example, in the processing of weather data and in genomic analysis.
- shoover, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It gives people the ability to easily organize and manage information of different types from varied sources. If you can't grasp why that is useful then why are you using a computer?
- sifelltneytandi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not really. You could argue that a comma is needed after the word "state," but that's a bit frivolous. Pipes is the name of the service -- it's not a plural noun.
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I likes to play on me yahoo pipes ladd....
- mtwmike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's not very self explanatory and i think Yahoo needs to make it a lot easier to use.
- balloot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No. I can't explain it either. I had a coworker who is semi-technical tell me about this the other day and how she was very excited about it. My first thought was "I don't get it...that sounds pretty useless." My opinion is that if you're that dedicated to creating a useful mashup, just learn how to program. It's really not that hard, especially when you have to use most of the same logical capabilities to create a successful pipe.
- Bobromops, on 11/16/2007, -0/+1Good! But much time has already passed, there is now more interesting pipes :) And much more complex.
See 5 Most Useful Pipes - http://ovoweb.blogspot.com/2007/11/5-most-useful-p ... - jonathan70, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here's another two cool Yahoo Pipes feeds:
http://www.doublesquids.net/coffeeblog/archive/yahoopip.html - duellsy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ohhh this has so much potential.
hope you can plug them into your own site... probably can i spose, otherwise... i dont think i would really use it. - techitout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There sure is a ton of potential for Yahoo Pipes to mix and match RSS feeds... one thing I'd love to see it do (or any other service for that matter) is also integrate with some kind of email-to-rss gateway. While more and more of my information if being delivered by RSS, some of it still comes across the transom via email. If I could get those two data streams to play well together, and let me create topical streams of information for my consumption all in one place, that would be my killer app. But not to knock on Pipes. It's pretty wild.
- icoms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1oui
- hildeaux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i don't get it at all.
:/ - katiesun, on 01/12/2009, -0/+0If I could get those two data streams to play well together, and let me create topical streams of information for my consumption all in one place, that would be my killer app. But not to knock on Pipes. It's pretty wild. http://www.mirc34.net/

There's lots of great things they could add. Main things I'd like would be:
- Ability to pull an HTML files instead of just XML (or is this already possible?)
- Ability to upload an XSLT file and use that to style from one RSS feed into another.
- Ability to take the HTML files I pull and turn them automatically into XHTML via a tidy-like thing, so I can then use XSLT on them. - grapes4tantalus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Some really good video tutorials for pipes: http://www.digg.com/programming/Some_really_nice_Yahoo_Pipes_tutorials_video
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Hahaha, oh, so no one actually knows why it's good? They just use it because everyone else does, eh?
Way to go digg, minus 1 internets for you. - lamestory, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1sorry, zero of those are cool.
- AgentAce, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4You mean they didn't name it Yahoo! Tubes?
- etnu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Pipes is a data delivery and aggregation service, not an automated spam tool. You still have to do some work yourself.
- sensibledriver, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"Still, even in its current state Pipes is offering a myriad of interesting possibilities."
The Grammar gods are very, very angry with that sentence. - crawfishsoul, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3alteratti: You're the type of person that interrupts conversations because you had something happen to you before that sounded like what they were talking about. Except you don't know what they were talking about in the first place. Aren't you?

- jonr, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Interesting.... I'll have to play with this some more before declaring if it rocks or sucks...
- mahdaeng, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1sorry - wrong place
bury me - Markpdotcom, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Pipes? We all know the internet is a series of tubes...
- kaeiminji, on 10/12/2007, -14/+2The Internet is not something you just dump something on. It's not a big truck. It's a series of tubes.
- alteratti, on 10/12/2007, -18/+4next up:
"Google Earth Underground Pipelines"
from Google Inc. - alteratti, on 10/12/2007, -20/+4*exeptions include hidden pipes made by the US from iraq to america.
