- MarkusX, on 12/08/2008, -5/+22This is awesome.
It's much, much better looking than the G1 and it's unlocked. That will make US carriers fear about their profit margins.
I think the iPhone finally has a real competitor. - HorseloverFat8, on 12/09/2008, -0/+10Has anyone else never heard of Kogan?
- static07, on 12/09/2008, -0/+9Looks like a Blackberry Bold competitor to me, much more than it would compete with the iPhone.
- djchester, on 12/09/2008, -0/+9Android/Linux will be ported to whatever phone hardware in the future. There are no boundaries!
- Linh, on 12/09/2008, -1/+8Now if someone would just make an unlocked CDMA Android phone... one that won't force me into a data plan
- inactive, on 12/09/2008, -1/+8This is so good to hear!!!!
- gllopc, on 12/09/2008, -2/+8Here's the device:

Sorry, but that screen is too small to compete with the iPhone. - terenceyap7, on 12/09/2008, -2/+8I can't wait to try out this phone!!!
- Hnnnnnghhh, on 12/09/2008, -0/+3Why is columb being dugg down? Has anyone actually seen the tech demo video of openmoko? They look ridiculous, UI handles horribly, no killer app/features. Its one advantage, being the only "open" phone OS, was ended by Android.
- NerveBand, on 12/10/2008, -0/+2Seriously, the design on that is horrible and the screen is much too small for even having a reason to touch (although touching is nice).
- aladrin, on 12/09/2008, -1/+3Not necessarily, but they'd best get off their asses. I was extremely hyped for an OpenMoko phone, but their first phone was overpriced and ugly. And since that's still the -only- phone...
Well, I just pre-ordered an Agora Pro. - digitaldivinci, on 12/09/2008, -2/+4This is a phone I could buy and justify buying it to any non-geeky inquisitor: It looks sharp doesn't it?
- columb, on 12/08/2008, -7/+9so that's it for openmoko :(
- mindlessmaniac, on 12/09/2008, -0/+2AGREED!!
- blossom321, on 12/08/2008, -2/+4Yes interesting
- Kelmon, on 12/09/2008, -1/+3It should be interesting to see whether this phone runs applications written for Android exactly as expected. As much as I like the idea of Android, the expectation is that each manufacturer might have slight differences in their implementation of Android that causes applications written for the platform to behave differently, much like Java applications can depending upon the JVM they are run under. Whether this is the case might become clear once this device and a few others launch. If everyone adheres exactly to the specification then all will be good.
- kjones555, on 12/09/2008, -0/+2That may be because you are right. I am anti-apple, but one thing I can say is that the iPhone is slick, sexy, and deserves its place as #1 smartphone. When ever HTC loads Android on the Touch HD (or someone puts android on the Nokia n97), then we'll talk about real competition. Until then, we've got iPhone, then G1.
- dougbarrett, on 12/09/2008, -0/+2Does anyone know if this phone is compatible with AT&T in the United States?
- Rockkybox, on 12/09/2008, -0/+2Significantly smaller than the iphone, how small are your pockets, or are you a dwarf?
- gllopc, on 12/09/2008, -0/+2I have, and I like it, but I'm not dumping my iPhone yet. The Android interface is still a little wonky, and not very polished looking. You really notice this when you return to the iPhone. I think the Android platform has the best chance of having a real competitive app store, next to Apple's.
It has potential. - DaDiggydiggyDOC, on 12/09/2008, -0/+2Glad to see that they have a headphone jack!!! That was one of the only things that I was wanting for !!!!
- tonicboy, on 12/09/2008, -0/+2I love how all the anti-Apple fanboys are digging me down because I hurt their feelings and yet not a single one can muster an argument as to why I'm wrong.
- theawp, on 12/09/2008, -0/+1Cry
- GOVATENT, on 12/09/2008, -0/+1Why use android without a data plan? It's like owning an iPhone without data. A lot of nice features u can't use. (My brother had his iphone like that) Plus if your dealing with amercian cdma providers prepare to be force into data plan. At least tmobile pricing is not that bad compared to att.
- Nephersir7, on 12/10/2008, -0/+1Best unlocked phone ever
- cwcentral, on 12/10/2008, -0/+1Does it support tmo's 1700mhz 3g?
Or at&t's weird way of using the 2100mhz standard?
And it should be more fluid-it has a faster cpu than the G1. - CressCrowbits, on 12/09/2008, -0/+1What? You don't think the iPhone is somewhat larger than most phones?
- atma1008, on 12/10/2008, -0/+1I was really skeptical about Google's world domination plans, but this article actual gives this phone promise as an iPhone competitor.
- iceyone, on 12/09/2008, -0/+1Because people are dirty liars, that's how.
- nvisn, on 12/09/2008, -0/+1How? It only accepts Aussie postal codes on the site for delivery?
- inactive, on 12/09/2008, -0/+1Lying bastard
- naisanza, on 12/10/2008, -0/+1..and the screen got smaller. no thanks
- GarrettGrimsley, on 12/09/2008, -0/+1Spelin sux! Grammer droolz!
- etx313, on 12/09/2008, -0/+1I need a CDMA Android Phone :(
- deeek, on 12/09/2008, -0/+1Well, if you look at this page ( http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/android-powered-kogan ... ) you can see that there is an option for international buyers at the bottom.
- Elranzer, on 12/09/2008, -0/+1911?
- HorseloverFat8, on 12/12/2008, -0/+1At $225 Australian dollars, I think you can fork out a bit more for a memory card. You don't even need to sign up to a contract.
- GarrettGrimsley, on 12/09/2008, -0/+1The SD and SDHC share a same form factor, but not all devices are compatible with the newer high capacity format - From wikipedia.
I would love if this phone supported it and I don't see a reason for it not to, my Centro does...
The link is broken because of your comma. - inactive, on 12/09/2008, -0/+1Will this work for Sprint? :( I really hate Sprint stock phones....
- Rockkybox, on 12/09/2008, -0/+1I would say that the iphone is the perfect size until bendable screens allow devies to have bigger screen sizes than the body of the phone
- directrix13, on 12/22/2008, -0/+1http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/android-powered-kogan ...
From the looks of it, on the side there, it looks like a standard headphone jack. - pHr34kY, on 12/10/2008, -0/+1I like that fact now any mid-20s entrepreneur can spec and sell a phone. I can purchase it knowing the firmware won't be rubbish. I've been stung by unstable software on cheap no-name brands before. Hell, even my AspireOne left me wondering why Acer would write their own distro.
- DaDiggydiggyDOC, on 12/10/2008, -0/+1You're kidding me! USB? I guess the wait will continue for me, maybe the next G1 will have one.
- JBxFinal, on 12/10/2008, -0/+1Is this phone not 3g? Why would not having wifi eliminate browsing and market use?
- int19h, on 12/10/2008, -0/+1You need to give it some time to evolve from okay to killer. :)
- pHr34kY, on 12/10/2008, -0/+1Actually, I emailed them about that asking if it was 2.5mm or 3.5mm.
They told me it was USB. - pHr34kY, on 12/10/2008, -0/+1I live in the same city (Melbourne) and hadn't heard of him until this.
- Maegashira, on 12/09/2008, -0/+1so... who was phone?
- int19h, on 12/10/2008, -0/+1Until Android runs on openmoko, I think you're right.
