- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -14/+92Were you guys aware that the internet is made up of a series of tubes?
- btipling, on 10/12/2007, -6/+83The media doens't know the meaning of the word 'hack'.
- borninda818, on 10/12/2007, -7/+60you shouldn't expect too much from female hackers. I think it's best there are no pics.
Does that make me sound sexist? I am a realist. - PAJK, on 10/12/2007, -6/+58Just to get serious here: a year? For ordering pizza and CDs? A year? Can you guys think about what you did this past year? (I did jack *****, but I did a whole lot of it.)
That's not cool. The punishment does not fit the crime. Some sort of community service, like teaching kids how to use the net, and stay out of trouble on it - would be more suitable. But to label these kids criminals, to give them a criminal record, and to throw them in jail for an entire year of their lives is disgusting. - hunteramor, on 10/12/2007, -5/+56i love facebook.

- grayapple, on 10/12/2007, -7/+54Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it.
- dongiaconia, on 10/12/2007, -5/+47Awww, no pics?
Hey wait, does that make me sound sexist? - myFriendDerrik, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41Article inaccurate, there are no girls on the intertubes.
- neoform, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42haha, think about it, if the words "female" weren't in the title, none of us would be interested..
- shuffles, on 10/12/2007, -4/+31@ picture of Lena - thats a man, baby!
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31The tubes thing will be a joke on Digg and everywhere else for a LONG time...
- cr3ative, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27No, there are no girls on the internet.

If you change the s to an n on the picture file name, you can see the bigger version of the picture shown to people who can access their profiles.

First off, both of them are over 18 so they are not kids. Secondly, facing up to a year in prison is not the same thing as a 1 year sentence. They have not been convicted yet. Since it is a misdemeanor they will likely end up doing no real jail time but rather community service. Lastly. the article probably emphasized that they were female because it is contrary to the typical "hacker" stereotype, at least in the media.
Anyway, no sympathy here. The fact that they used personal information in their "hacks" shows they aren't the sharpest tools in the shed. The whole thing seems like a prank a 12 or 13yo would try to pull off. Perhaps the judge will recognize this, take pity on them, and make them repeat elementary school. - NanoStuff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18▲↔▲

And by the way, why the emphasis on these "hackers" being female? If they were guys, would the title of this Digg article be "2 male hackers face one year prison"? - dagr8tim, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18http://www.mbcomps.com/gallery/albums/album162/attention_whore2.gif
- FluffyArmada, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18You're right. Men are men, women are men, and Children are FBI agents.

HAWT!!!!!! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15What, gone to prison?
- diafel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Wait, so they face one year of prison time at California State University?
And why is "at" written as @? Is the headline some sort of email? - darkmist, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15@PAJK,
RTFA They changed grades, which is a huge no-no. The Pizza and CD's probably weren't that big a deal. - catoutfit, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Back Door Vunerability.

- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12> And why is "at" written as @? Is the headline some sort of email?
New to the internet ? - Apage43, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10They just snagged a professor's password and it seems credit card numbers, then used them to spend money and mess up the grades. Purely destructive and not that difficult to pull off anyway.
- MrObjectional, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10This would so not be a story if 90% of hackers (and Digg's audience) weren't male.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+19invader hasn't seen Ferris Bueller's Day Off
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+19lol, internet.
- trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8You do realize that the @ sign was used long before email or the internet even existed.
- Linh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10@PJAK
they didn't steal for themselves, but they purchased stuff under a false identity.. it just so happens it's the identity of the victim. they forwarded work related email to themselves... and while only had the potential to do some real damage.. up to a year in jail sounds fine. key words being UP TO.
I doubt they'll get it, most likely probation of some sort and community service.. and maybe a week in jail or something to scare them. - Tsuroerusu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hacker#Categories_of_hacker
- pauleric, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I don't know why you're getting dugg down for that, jail most definitely is not the same thing as prison. For our non-native english speakers, a jail (at least in the US) is usually operated by a local government, and is for people with minor offences and pending trial. Prisons are for felons and are much nastier places. The headline implies that the laws in the US are much stricter than is the truth.
- UncommonSense, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13There's nothing hotter than a pair of female hackers who can love you long time.
- mikevickrocks, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11No.
- telerice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8She's nothing like Ferris Buller ...
http://www.nscs.org/scholaroftheday/index.cfm?CUST_ID=539145 - TheIronBadger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Also pretty damn stupid. As if the professor isn't going to notice 300 grades are changed or assigned.
- thenorwegian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7i saw an advertisement next to the article with Kate Bosworth and Jennifer Lopez and the first thought to my head was "damn, those girls are hot!"
- sirsteveh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Many people in the world would love to be imprisoned in a fine university for a year. They can't afford an education. :P

"Life is short," said Jennifer Ngan, "and if you never try to achieve your dreams, you never will." That's why Ngan is in pursuit of her goals."
Wow, that is ironic - I hope she achieves her goals in jail :)
I actually feel kind of bad for her, she's pretty cute. - UrlorJkron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Would be more accurate to call them hacks.
- MrTranscendence, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Nah, he wishes he'd been two female hackers. Who are we to ridicule his dream?
- diafel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7No, see, I'm pointing out how retarded it is to use "@" in place of "at" on a site where the majority of users hate leetspeak. Furthermore, it takes as many keystrokes to write "@" as "at".
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+15you win holmes.
