- nusuni, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19Good list, but tip #1 really needs to be "Don't start a blog if you're a ranter, a politician who is too lazy to write and pays other people to do so, a splogger, or if you're just plain stupid."
- JEWestbrookJR, on 10/10/2007, -4/+20I really thought it said "bong" not "blog"... imagine my disappointment.
- davin510, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13Buried. Last thing I want is someone encouraging more blogging.
- gen0x, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Man, I totally read 'bong' too. :(
- soupyc, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Can someone explain to me why blogging has taken off so rapidly? It seems like everyone has a blog nowadays and its baffling. I can understand independent journalism, but does that come from a distrust of mainstream media? If so, doesn't a blog have the same, if not more, potential for bias?
I mean, I have a blog, but I use it for keeping my out of state family updated on what my immediate family is up to. And I read large 'blogs' like Destructioid and Lifehacker, but I don't consider those blogs, really. Is my view skewed? I perceive a blog to be almost journal like, but obviously I'm behind the times. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3***** this blog *****, someone link me a bong-making site
- vemerge, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4And, don't start a blog if you have nothing original to contribute to a niche.
- sumiguchi, on 10/10/2007, -3/+61 tip - digg your own blog > burried
- staticneuron, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2or number one could be to simply be sensationalist. Alot of blogs hit digg that are really over the top or biased.
- MrSunshine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2#2 Know the difference between a blog and a diary.
- Firehed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Because among the diggers, a blog tends to constitute a commercial endeavor, rather than what you described it as (which is, at least early on, was what blogging was for and about). I use mine as an online personal goings-on journal kinda thing, but I decided to throw on an Amazon affiliate thing since I tend to ramble on about stuff I have or want. If it were to really work out well, I'd get paid when people buy me a birthday present. But I'm not looking to get rich, just to provide an information source to those out there who care.
- Tranquillity, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Next person making a "Bong" joke will be stapped.
- ZeroVector, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1# 1 - Have something to say worth reading.
- Haplo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1My site, http://johnbokma.com/ would be in your words probably be even more boring. Yet it has about 15,000 (yes fifteen-thousand) daily visitors and pays me some money...
- edjenkins234, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I came here to make that exact same greivance
- ahpro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Not when i posted it.
- Foenetik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1blong
- rinkjustice, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Webmann's got some good tips too (a random sampling here: http://www.ebooks-with-reseller-rights.com/search-engine-optimization/5-wordpress-plugins ) and he's daily and consistant with his own blog entries, so he's a good rss feed to subscribe too.
I am in no way affiliated with him, only a loyal reader (who found his stuff via digg incidentally). - kweee, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Yay, just what we need: more blog tip lists.
- IEatHamburgers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You really think these people will be able to write something worth digging?
- vemerge, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2What the ***** is stapped?
- CarzorStelatis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1So we've gone from pointless top-10 lists on the frontpage to pointless top-27 lists on the frontpage? Still lame.
- Haplo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Which is even more true for comments on diggs...
- MtheoryX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Stapled?
- crgnetworks, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5#1 don't make a blog.
No one really cares what you or joe shmoe thinks. - Backlash, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I read title as, "27 Tips for Building a Kick-Ass-Bong."
: ( - Haplo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Imagine how many people care about rants posted as comments by 11 yo kids to sites like digg. Assuming you're already 11 that is.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0It already is.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0so did i, and i think everyone else did
- lukeslytalker, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Ha hah. Not much info about bong building, but some good tips nonetheless.
- FrodoBongins, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1You are soo getting stapped
- FultonSullivan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Interesting article:
http://digg.com/software/Electronic_Data_Processing_Word_Document_vs_PDF - MtheoryX, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Build a site that is as complex as some of these blogs (including security, multiple users, and plugins) from scratch, and post it, and then I'll listen to you.
- RDRANADE, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I looked at quickly and I thought it said "27 ways to build a kick ass bong" HAHA
- MrFisty, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2#28 Come to accept that people really don't care if you got shoddy service at Best Buy, if your girlfriend got a hard time at EB, if armed bandits stole your PS3, or your personal analysis of the iPhone.
- Gizza, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Although an Ass-Blog does sound interesting. Don't know why I would want to build something to kick one though.
- crash128, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0You should post this comment on your blog.
- prestontutein, on 05/16/2009, -0/+0This article rocked it will definitely help out alot of blogging newbies out there thats's trying to get started one thing I didn't see in that post is the secret most gurus won't share which is when making post always keep the content relevant instead of keyword stuffed.
Ex:If I posted an article about blogging then naturally my keywords will be blogging. But that's not enough you must have related keywords in your content that doesn't have the same keyphrase. For instance my related keywords for blogging will be writing,articles,posts,content,comments,etc...This SEO term is called "Latent Semantic Indexing" apply it and you will see a world of difference. - SpeKopuZ, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1www.problogger.net has tons of good tips for blogging.
- elpepe, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1The #1 tip I can tell you is that if you come home tired and don't feel like writing a post (assuming something newsworthy happened), just bite the bullet and write it right away -- you'll be glad you didn't put it off.
- alpa76, on 05/14/2009, -0/+0If you need bonging tips then it is useless. However, good blogging tips
- Haplo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Don't some of you people ever get tired of calling blogs boring and useless in even more boring and even more useless digg comments? If "nobody" cares about blogs, why do you think anybody cares about your pathetic digg comment?
Also, blogs don't have to be cutting edge to get visitors and make money. I write about scorpions, tarantulas, walking around in Mexico, and even more "boring" stuff ( http://johnbokma.com/ ). Yet almost every day I have over 15,000 (FIFTEEN THOUSAND) visitors. And yes, that makes some little money via AdSense as well...
If a blog is ***** it won't get much visitors, so why worry about those? It's survival of the fittest. Posting pathetic comments on digg doesn't make blogs go away. What it does show is that there is even something way down below writing a blog: ranting on digg. The true bottom feeders IMO. - johanm, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1only post Top X lists even if its really really obvious,
if all else fails, either list reasons why you should use CSS instead of tables OR list cool mac widgets
success! - brettbum, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1OK bong fan boys, you asked for it and I found it. For everyone that was mistakenly led here expecting to find 27 Steps for Building a Kick Ass Bong! and came across 27 Tips for Building a Kick-Ass Bong, I went through the laborious process of digging up this article from the archives, republishing it, and submitting it myself to Digg (flame me all you like for the self submission - maybe we'll all get a contact high)
http://digg.com/design/27_Steps_for_Making_a_Kick_Ass_Bong/ - MtheoryX, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1You must have thought that at least one person cares what you think because you commented on this, right?
- MtheoryX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0No, first rule, make sure you can AT LEAST validate xhtml TRANSITIONAL without 130 errors, as you have. I mean, come on, a break tag already, haven't we figured this out by now?
- MtheoryX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Ah, you're not fooling me with the whole "i know ill be buried" thing, and then every one diggs you up. I'm burying you just because of that.
- MtheoryX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Digging your own blog is just blatant masturbation.
- gen0x, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0What he actually meant was, "SMOKED IN MY BONG!"
- Japan1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Agree, #1 don't make a blog.
#2, use Joomla and make something better.
