- schleppo, on 10/12/2007, -11/+328Now if only we could a photo section with frickin' laser beams attached to its header!
- luddep, on 10/12/2007, -7/+274Who is the lucky number million?
- shosterman, on 10/12/2007, -23/+271IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAAAAANDD!!!
- Humptydank, on 10/12/2007, -14/+258
Big congratulations to Digg, but congratulations also to Nintendo, since when I saw more than one "i" in a row I immediately thought they were talking about the "Wii" reaching one million users.
When that starts happening you know you've created a serious brand. - martel, on 10/12/2007, -16/+198Am I the only one that assumed this story was about the Wii?
- mfratt, on 10/12/2007, -9/+173Am I the only one who read that title in the Dr. Evil voice?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+149LOL yeah.. And how many of those are dupe accounts?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -31/+152Great. If only you would have kept the userbase smaller, Digg would have been much better than it is today. After the invasion of the 13 year olds a year ago, Digg has lost a great deal of its value. It truly is a matter of throwing ***** onto a wall, and seeing what sticks. The best pieces of poo, again, judged by 13 year olds.
- firehydra2k, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1241 Miiiiiilion users, and we suddenly have an army of one-sided nuts. Yay?
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+113
Digg is the MySpace of tech news sites.
Each comment on Digg should be displayed in multicolored blinking text and have an embedded song. - kingace, on 10/12/2007, -17/+113Yoooooooooou're aaaaaaaa tooooooooooooool.
- mrharvey518, on 10/12/2007, -4/+96I deserve more credit than the rest of you because I have 46 user names.
(I dont do sarcasm tags, but if I did, there would be one here.) - scrag10, on 10/12/2007, -8/+93Lets take over a small European country, Diggers unite!
- bonch, on 10/12/2007, -34/+113Congratulations, everybody. In the span of two years, you've turned Digg from a technically-oriented news site with links to programming tutorials, insightful security articles, and other relevant news into a high-school kiddie site that posts a repetitive cycle of: something about the RIAA, something about PirateBay, self-referential article about Digg/Kevin Rose, something about Apple, something about the RIAA, something about Pirate Bay, self-referential article about Digg/Kevin Rose, etc.
I can't believe I'm actually back to browsing Slashdot for news and commentary. Digg is the MySpace of tech news sites. - DiggChainey, on 10/12/2007, -9/+86Congratulations Digg!
- Humptydank, on 10/12/2007, -4/+75@firehydra2k
"1 Miiiiiilion users, and we suddenly have an army of one-sided nuts. Yay?"
Actually, if you read through the comments on the more controversial subjects (ie, anything to do with Al Sharpton) you see that it's really more of an army of highly polarized nuts.
And, in an interesting coincidence, "highly polarized nuts" is also the answer to the question: "What do you get when you go to an airport with a magnet up your ass?" - Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -11/+73do you bother to read other comments before posting?
- kingace, on 10/12/2007, -2/+51Welcome to Digg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -18/+67Great! Now give us some money.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+49the millionth user should win a blendtec blender
- Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -9/+53ya think?
- AUChizad, on 10/12/2007, -4/+45Seriously?
Did I just get buried that fast for merely mentioning the possibility that I could be the millionth user?
Tough crowd. - dsignr, on 10/12/2007, -6/+44@jwoey
Spoken like the diggers described by mantarii - darkstar949, on 10/12/2007, -6/+42Am I the only one that is curious as to what the first submitted story was?
- contradictator, on 10/12/2007, -4/+37Jumaaaanjiiiiiiiiiii!
- 6ixed, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31To me, it was a disappointment too, when I heard about just the *1 million users* claim. I was under the impression that Digg already has more than 4 or 5 million users. But it surely has made it felt like that..to users here in general and to the outside online populace and online markets. I mean, if DIgg..with just 1 million users can create such a huge *Digg Effect* in the online atmosphere..think of the massive buzz it would generate when there are actually 4 or 5 million registered users on Digg.
Also, there are a lot of passive/active users of Digg out there, who just has not bothered to register, but passively/actively browsing Digg on a everyday/weekly basis. If somehow there's a way to count them in, the numbers would shoot to atleast 3+ million or more. I myself was a very active user of Digg for the past 5 months of so, but was too lazy to register. But once you do, you are hooked. Lol, Digging is extremely addictive, to say the least. :) - Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32Batman, you truly are dense. I wasn't slamming you for thinking it was talking about the Wii, I was slamming you for posting the exact same comment as one that had already been posted. (Here's a hint, http://digg.com/tech_news/1_Miiiiiillion_Users#c5589725)
Now I'm blasting you for being too stupid to understand a simple question. - mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -7/+35Lets get this story to 1 million diggs now...
- wheaty, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30why go across the street when you can go across the hall?
- 4815162342, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30but how many of them are active users?
- mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29Interesting fact:
the most popular story in the past 365 days is about the apple iphone, which 21639 people dugg as of 3:54 EST which means about 2.2% of registered digg users dugg that story - shaftbond, on 10/12/2007, -7/+31Columbus discovered America!! (of course it was buried because the Vikings had already discovered it)
- rsalsman, on 10/12/2007, -9/+30So lets say that a large group of people on digg are 13 year olds. Then a large group of the userbase is going to be digging articles that 13 year olds like. That results in a large group of the userbase being satisfied with the content. Like it or not that is the way the site is intended to work. It may not be perfect for YOU or ME, but that's not the point of the site.
- Asianwaste, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Or what would happen in Soviet Russia... apparently it's very opposite from what'd you'd expect.
- ryland2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22Can anyone from digg give us the numbers on how many are recently active. It would be interesting to know...
- Retuow, on 10/12/2007, -20/+39Keep on Digging!
- asauterChicago, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22Oh I know buddy, digg is horrible, awful, populated with 13 year olds and tofu eating liberals, the humanity of it all.... yet you still come here and post.
Anyhooo, congrats digg! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24Yeah...because Digg was EVER fille with smart people. Riiihgt.
Actually, it awas filled with people who THINK they are smarter than the average person, but have always clearly been quite the opposite. Being "different" and an outcast does not make you smart. - bl00w, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Now if we could only get every single person to digg this story.
- kingace, on 10/12/2007, -8/+25No. Now sit down.
- blink21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Yes, snlildude, it was the story about Cherry OS. The services.digg.com trick is how you find it: http://services.digg.com/story/001
- littlebylittle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Congratulations Digg and Digg Staff!
"For those of you who can make it to the Bay Area in mid-April, we’re planning a party to thank you for your contributions to Digg. We’re tentatively looking at an event on Thursday, April 19th in San Francisco. Stay tuned for more updates, because obviously this milestone calls for good celebration!"
I'll be there. Just don't ask me what my Digg user name is.
There are several groups who want to kill me. - EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -12/+26bonch: "you've turned Digg from a technically-oriented news site with links to programming tutorials, insightful security articles, and other relevant news into a high-school kiddie site...I can't believe I'm actually back to browsing Slashdot for news and commentary."
I've been a registered Digger for nearly a year and a half and am one of the top 100 commenters. Personally I think Digg has only gotten better with time. It's true the community has changed, and not always for the better, but it's still a great place to be. There are plenty of other sites for those who find the site no longer meets their needs. Considering all you seem to be able to contribute is to insult the site and its community I say good riddance to you. Take your grumpy ass elsewhere and we'll promise to stay the hell off your lawn. - cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17@Humptydank - I heard about that on the radio this morning, VERY. *****. WEIRD.
- bittie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15KHAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!
- redwallhp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Whoever was the 1millointh should get a Digg T-Shirt.
Congratulations Digg! - ratbear, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17I agree, it is unfortunate that the site has been overrun with kids that have immature personalities and nascent world views. The fact that they are extremely impressionable and likely to parrot popular opinins magnifies the herd mentality that has become the standard on Digg. But it's not like Kevin and the rest of the Digg staff can limit the membership based on age or some arbitrary population size. I have been reading Reddit more and more lately to escape the insanity, but its only a matter of time until that site experiences an event horizon of middle school infestation.
- Avalontor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13No, it because you were wrong about the 1/2, it's more like 80%
- betterth, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18If only.
