- glucoseboy, on 01/26/2009, -0/+5First sentence makes no sense.
Why would users of Google Notebook be petitioning to save it? Google has stated they have stopped developing but will continue to support it for current users. No need for current users to do anything. - heynoop, on 01/27/2009, -2/+6***** yea Evernote
- abajaj2280, on 01/26/2009, -0/+3if they do a good job (like they are with Google Mail, Calendar, Contacts, and Docs), i dont mind.
my ipod is synchronized to gmail, cal, and contacts and i've never had a problem with them. - Otto, on 01/27/2009, -0/+3Umm.. Google Notebook is not going away, they're just not actively developing it any more.
I use it all the time. It still works perfectly. They never added a whole lot of features to it anyway, it's good for what it does: quick notes. - ComicChic, on 01/27/2009, -2/+4There is only one noteworthy alternative: OneNote. If you haven't yet tried it, you're doing it wrong.
You can record audio while you type. It will remember when you typed it, and correlate that with the audio. You can then click on any line and see what was being said while you typed it!
Even better, you can SEARCH you audio the same way you search text... you type the term you want to find, and it pulls up all the places that word or phrase was said, across all your audio recordings. Yes, it actually works. It is downright crazy.
Combine that with the fact it OCRs every image you give it (snap a pic of a business card, and BAM, it's searchable), and you've got the only solution you need. Try comparing the features with any other program out there... it blows them out of the water. - Jonman03, on 01/26/2009, -5/+6Google has a little monopoly in everything. Damn.
- Ademos, on 10/12/2009, -0/+1I think the issue at hand, is that new Google Accounts users no longer have access to Google Notebook.
And the existing users that do have access, are depending on software that Google has shown lack of interest in. Read: They're more likely to abandon it in the future.
So I think the purpose of the petition is valid, but the execution won't accomplish anything. - crc77, on 01/27/2009, -0/+1I'm kind of surprised OneNote is in the article in the first place. I'm sure there are many commercial applications, including OneNote, that blow Notebook out of the water, but Notebook is hardly trying to compete with those sorts of products anyway... OneNote costs $100 (less with discounts etc), Notebook costs nothing.
- mikeruiz7, on 01/27/2009, -0/+1Just a little monopoly, eh? hehe...
- Twee, on 01/29/2009, -0/+1I've started using Evernote in my speech class and it's fantastic.
- def1, on 01/27/2009, -0/+1It's the first step. If it had the potential to make them revenue, they'd continue to develop on it. They've clearly decided it doesn't. At what point do you stop maintaining a dead service? Who knows, but it always happens eventually.
- trebol, on 01/27/2009, -0/+1ugh...after I spent hours of copying and pasting, NOW evernote implements an import feature!
- jordanmoore, on 01/27/2009, -0/+1Heh heh heh... noteworthy.
- javiero, on 01/27/2009, -0/+1regular pen and paper?
- ptFoe, on 01/27/2009, -1/+1I choose not to post
- say592, on 01/27/2009, -1/+1I always liked the interface and style of OneNote, but I hated that it was a bit of a resource hog (not terrible, but more than it should be).
I also never liked the fact that I couldnt sync it across multiple machines, nor could I use it on my Linux machines. - judahhertz, on 01/27/2009, -1/+0That's a shame, I was looking forward to trying this out.
- alexlafreniere, on 10/13/2009, -2/+2Seriously, enough with the posts about migrating to a different notebook service after Google closed theirs. This has to be about the 15th or so I've already seen this week. Just get on Zoho Notebook and be done with it. Sheesh.
