- wallryan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+50last.fm FTW
- merrickx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22And http://www.purevolume.com isn't in here?! Blasphemy.
- aelias, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Pandora is good. It just finds music you like based on an individual band. Type in Led Zepplin, and it will find bands, both new and old, that resemble them in different ways. Like tivo/digg it has a thumbs up and down to refine the algorithm.
- gmoney1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Virb didn't make it. List is wrong!
- omarciddo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6To me last.fm is the best because it takes down what you actually listen to in real-time and can give you suggestions and even your own personal radio station. The neighbors feature is an added bonus.
- amadeusdemarzi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6+1 for Last.fm
I find the whole interface wonderful and easy to use! Furthermore the suggestion system is fantastic, I have come across many great obscure bands that I would probably never find otherwise!
Highly recommended. - lozzd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5To be honest, they hardly touched on why Last.fm is so good for promoting your band. It will automatically build up an idea of what your band is like, compared to other bands, so when users are listening to the similar artist radio (or just getting recommendations in text) they will see/hear your band. In my opinion, I wouldn't look at a band name and think "wow I'll try them". However, if I was listening a radio station of some of my favourite artists, and an small unsigned band came on afterwards and they were good enough, I'd look into them more. I hope that makes sense!
From a bands point of view, they can track this data, and see how many people has listened to their stuff, and how many people loved it/hated it. As well as being able to either give a link for a free .mp3 download or a purchasable download, so you could get an album sale direct from the site.
And yes, sorry, I do work for them ;) - noots, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6agreed, i use purevolume over all of these other alternatives, the only downside is searching through genres becomes immensely tedious once you're out of the charts.
- dumbum, on 10/11/2007, -0/+32 words: Groove Salad
- paranoidlunatic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3virb and purevolume should definitely be on this list!

Also don't forget to check this ous, too - http://www.PickyPorn.com - Digg-Like Social Porn Network - mentorwarrior, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1This is pretty valuable information. Netowrking is such a big part of the music industry partly because of what you learn from other people. If you are interested in a career in voice-over or online radio check out the Radio Connection. They match you with a mentor which specializes in your area of interest, whether is is electronica, Djing, hip hop, or talk radio. http://www.radioconnection.com for more info !

- mephitix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1wow, this site needs to work on its design... and its loading time...
- Izacus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1 We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for most listeners located outside of the U.S. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative.
We believe that you are in Slovenia (your IP address appears to be). If you believe we have made a mistake, we apologize and ask that you please contact us at pandora-support@pandora.com
Whoo.... *goes back to last.fm* - compgeek, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I second the purevolume comment. it's the bomb when it comes to finding new and upcoming talent especially for Canadians :D
- lozzd, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2How are they turning on their userbase by not shutting off their services for a day?! How will that help the users?
Incase you didn't notice, Last.fm is in the UK. - encrypter, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I wish Pandora was still available in Canada....
- Snorglorf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Thanks for this, thanks a ton. Sellaband and Purevolume should come insanely useful once my band gets on their feet and has enough material to record a few songs.

- adambenayoun, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3And i heard Last.fm isnt joining the Day of silence! this is insane, can it be that one of the most adopted startup might turn on its own user because they are owned by CBS? i say lets digg this article http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/06/22/lastfm-not-joining-national-day-of-silence/ to the frontpage and show them the crowd can win!
