- Koroush, on 10/15/2007, -3/+171Sadly most of what's in this article is completely true.
I think the ultimate Digg story would be about how Kevin Rose, sitting in front of a Mac using Firefox, managed to hack into Microsoft (or 'M$'), thereby foiling a plot by George Bush and Bill Gates to accelerate global warming by 82%
Digg is the perfect example of how you can never go broke appealing to the lowest common denominator :) - ActiveMatx, on 10/12/2007, -8/+141he forgot:
"Nintendo is god...... and sony sucks" - vudicarus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+75Now that this story has hit the front page, criteria 2 has been fufilled:
2. Write about Digg... People must be sitting at their computers going “OMG Look it’s a story about Digg! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+73JUST IN: YOU FORGOT THE ALL CAPS!!!
EXCLUSIVE: People digg stories like this. In an unrelated story, people are morons. - fatsobob, on 10/12/2007, -4/+65They forgot to mention Ubuntu in there.
- wayjer, on 10/12/2007, -8/+64The World's Greatest Digg Story
"100% of Liberal Punks Believe in the Top 10 Ways to Use Firefox on an Apple While Blaming George Bush for Single Handedly Starting Global Warming" says Digg Founder Kevin Rose - gamasutra, on 10/12/2007, -2/+56He forgot the Google worshipping.
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+49Acctually, if that were an acctual video, I'd digg it.
- AgentMull, on 10/12/2007, -23/+62I dugg it, but atleast you should have spelled Jon Stewart right.
- PunkRampant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+37Inability to express sarcasm on the internet strikes again.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+37It's not irony, it's proof of concept
- jonnyx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39You forgot about the part where Fox News is actively spreading disinformation regarding said plot.
- eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33he also forgot getting your hate on for the ps3
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32I guess it worked...
- drakethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -6/+33Microsoft donated 10 million dollars to my university for a new library. They also provide us with free development tools. Apparently as evil as they are, they understand that education is important, something I think the government misses on a regular basis.
- PunkRampant, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30No it's not. He's absolutely serious. -_-
- NoNameHere, on 10/12/2007, -10/+35"soooo true" indeed. Even funnier, however, is that for this to make the front page would be to undermine its content. What irony.
- arkitect, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29What's the internet?
- Intrepion, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3011. Title says it all
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26and sony bashing and how cool the Wii is
- quamb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23forgot to mention spice up your headline with "Amazing!" "Hilarious!" "Must-See!" etc
- optikshell, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Well written, funny stuff. One other example I think I notice a fair amount is:
[Best/Funniest] [someAction/someThing] VIDEO EVER!!! - nismo334, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19They also forgot to mention AJAX the buzz word of the last year.
- Nathanael, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Please dont' forget the all-time biggest homepage frequenter: UBUNTU! That's got to be near the top of the list...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20whats sarcasm ?
- GhostCrab, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17and then he goes on the Colbert Report to talk about it.
- scuczu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I think you all missed:
8.Make up outrageous statistics that you have not researched. State your opinions as fact. Sure, they might get vetted by some geek who has nothing better to do, but that probably won’t happen until you’ve already made the front page.
he pandered his entire article to prove it would make it on the front page,
new mac
kick ass screen
made fun of wal-mart shoppers
praised firefox
story about digg
all in the first paragraph, it's called playing your audience, and he did an outstanding job of that, it's already on the front page and everyone here is commenting on it like it true. you've all been force fed and conditioned to digg this article, and rightly you did.
so did I, I found it an entertaining read. - joeydoo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21Ah!!
He missed one.
I made the front page with Halle Berry's breasts.
http://digg.com/videos_comedy/Halle_Berry_has_very_distracting_breasts. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18"3. Appeal to the Apple fanboys. "
needs to be number one - riverside71, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19Finally.. someone else realizes the insane amount of Applye Fanboyism on digg!!
- harsh1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Only idiots miss the entire point of an article and post comments like that.
- krinthekuz, on 09/16/2008, -0/+13it's quite amusing how the guy making fun of all of us, basically calling us simpled-minded sensationalist lemmings has one of the highest digg counts that i've ever seen.
o the irony. - klang, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16I dugg it because the plugin was there ..
- NaterGator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I had an especially good chuckle at point # 6, because being new around here I was damn near shellshocked at how anti-Bush digg is.
- optikshell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14@willin
I believe it was more meant as a comedy piece (unless for some reason I missed the "Political Opinion" tag).
Also, when did this discussion go from 'digg front page satire' to "whats wrong with this country"? Perhaps we could discuss oil prices next, and relate them to the article about the Darth Vader bath ducky...
(Sorry, I just think this is a funny, light hearted post... and the didn't illicit the response.) - Egoist, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Who gives a ***** if it's not entirely benevolent? The cynicism of that attitude to find something wrong in everything, which I hear far too often, irks me to no end. No one does anything with 100% benevolence. If I give $10,000 to a charity to feed the homeless, is it worth less because I take a tax writeoff? Does the food not quell their hunger as well?
It seriously pisses me off when others try to belittle the good actions of others. - JackHallows, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14"write about Digg"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11"Don’t know why, but if Apple lets out a fart, diggers can’t wait to comment on the rosy smell."... hahaha amazing.
- ArmedGeek, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11The truth of this article pretty well illustrates the failure of "rating" sites like this.
- PunkRampant, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9THIS JUST IN: The device they're using to accelerate global warming is the Playstation 3 itself!!
- blixel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"it's quite amusing how the guy making fun of all of us, basically calling us simpled-minded sensationalist lemmings has one of the highest digg counts that i've ever seen."
Everyone who read it thinks:
"That is so true!!! About all other digg users. Not me though." - chadell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Perhaps we are losing sight of what really matters here, the truth. We must all be wary of allowing platforms to become the be and end all of live debate on issues of interest.
Being on digg frontpage is simply a way of highlighting topics that are being talked about the most. being popular is entirely different from being useful. I usually find the most interesting stories by using search on Digg. - optikshell, on 10/12/2007, -16/+20What is really funny is that you're being dugg down (for your negative Kevin Rose comment)... ironic actually ;)
I suppose I'll be dugg down too. Ah well... - Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Another one: everything about Diggnation, like Rev3, is automatically Digg worthy.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7So you read one comment, decided you disagreed with it, and that you would therefore disgree with the rest without reading them?
It is possible to agree with someone on one thing and disagree on another - Philosomatika, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5you all dugg it because it is 100% true, i wonder if this story will make the podcast and how will kevin retort
- mcnugget, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6And
1. "make it seem like the reader’s online success is just a 5 minute read away."
RTFA before making a comment like that - Tynan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4There is no such thing as altruism from a group of human beings. Even individual altruism is a questional concept.
- Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7"I think the ultimate Digg story would be about how Kevin Rose, sitting in front of a Mac using Firefox, managed to hack into Microsoft (or 'M$'), thereby foiling a plot by George Bush and Bill Gates to accelerate global warming by 82%"
... and posted in the wrong section! :-) - MasterDwarf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4He forgot this one:
Make sure you find an article on the web, post about it on you blog, then submit the story to digg. Don't link to the original article because it was really you who should get the credit, right? Really, how easy can it be to have thousands of hits an hour to your site? -
